Joe Lauzon vs. Sam Stout Likely for UFC 108
Lightweight Joe Lauzon is expected to return to the Octagon against Sam Stout at UFC 108 on January 2 in Las Vegas, according to MMA Mania.
Lauzon (18-4) has been sidelined since February after undergoing major knee surgery that was expected to keep him out until mid-2010, but with his recovery ahead of schedule he’ll likely return to action in January looking to pick up where he left off. “J-Lau,” a semi-finalist on TUF 5, is 6-1 since joining the UFC in 2006, losing only to contender Kenny Florian while most-recently picking up back-to-back wins over Kyle Bradley and Jeremy Stephens.
Stout (14-5-1) was scheduled to fight Phillipe Nover earlier this month at UFC Fight Night 19, but a seizure suffered by Nover on fight night forced the bout to be canceled. “Hands of Stone” won “Fight of the Night” honors for his unanimous decision win over Matt Wiman in April at UFC 97, which snapped a two-fight losing streak.

Awesome, can’t wait to see J-Lau back in action. I got J-Lau via submission (RNC).
i as well etherbunny, j-lau by submission bra
Stout by decision
lauzon has never gone to decision and stout doesn’t go to decision much, put the two togeather and it makes for a non decision fight
“Stout doesn’t go to decision much”? In 7 UFC fights Stout has gone to a decision 6 times. The only time he didn’t was when he got choked out by Florian.
Not sure how you can say he doesn’t go to decisions much.
dude stout is known for being an exciting banger and not really a finisher. I like J-Lau but its a tough first fight back, if J-Lau does win its going to be by Sub for sure but I think Stout is going to be smart and strike and get out (at least I hope). I think Stout by UD.
hooray this is the best news I’ve heard since hearing the result of the Kimbo-Nelson fight is… FR hitting people with a chair who talk about it…
Sorry couldn’t resist guys
Honestly, I am really stoked about this match-up. Stout is a guy that lives up to his last name and will be a handful for anyone. J-Lau is a tough fighter who has shown nothing but improvement with the exception of the KenFlo rape(and even then he fought hard just wasn’t the best fighter in the cage that night). I’m excited and hope J-Lau has minimal cage rust and puts on what should be a fight of the night type match up.
i don’t think this is fair for lauzon he should fight a higher level opponent, plus i like stou and don’t want him to get his ass kicked and put his ufc record to 2-5
keep in mind Joe is coming off a long layoff so facing top competition would probably be a mistake. It is a tough fight for Stout but Stout doesn’t exactly shy away from tough competition.
Also it’d be 3-5 if he lost, he’s 3-4 right now.
oh ya, your right
So exactly who should Lauzon be fighting upon his return from a knee injury, BJ Penn in Aloha Stadium on 48 hours notice?
Give the guy a chance to regain his bearings before you throw him into the 155 shark tank, OK?
haha easy killer…
I believe J-Lau occasionally goes to Hawaii still but I think it’s more to train with the Penn man…
I’m starting to enjoy the build up (rumors) for UFC 108, some rather interesting fights coming our way, its looking good
Tough fight for stout, and a long wait for someone who hasnt fought since april.
Honestly that isn’t exactly Stout’s fault ya know, Nover just had a medical issue that we all have been and some still are concerned about…. O and the “rumor” around the water cooler is that Dana paid both Stout and Nover their “show” money and perhaps even their win bonus money..
that would make sense since most legit organizations typically do that for guys that have their opponent DQ’d or injured at the last second since they did everything they were supposed to.
