After Recent Win, Houston Alexander Likely to Return to UFC in December

Houston AlexanderLight heavyweight knockout artist Houston Alexander is likely to return to the UFC in December after earning his first victory in over two years at last weekend’s Adrenaline IV event near his hometown of Omaha, Nebraska.

Alexander took the rare step of fighting outside the Octagon while still under contract with the UFC after receiving special permission from the promotion, dispatching of Sherman Pendergarst with leg kicks less than two-minutes into the opening round of their co-main event.

“The Assassin” debuted in the UFC in 2007 with back-to-back first-round knockouts of Keith Jardine and Alessio Sakara, but would lose his next three-straight before getting back on track last weekend.

In a recent appearance on MMAjunkie Radio, Alexander said he’s likely to fight at UFC 107 on December 19 in Memphis, Tennessee, a pay-per-view event headlined by BJ Penn vs. Diego Sanchez, but that an opponent has not yet been determined for the fight.

Awesome news, I hope this tune-up fight helped. Maybe him versus lil’ Nog or Stephan Bonnar?

  • ufcmanz says:

His last win still doesn’t mean he got a ground game. Verus lil Nog he’s subed

    • Jazzkok says:

Yeah i totally agree with that. We didn’t see his ground game in his recent win. But looked better and more composed nonetheless.

Damn i can’t wait for houston to return! For those of you who don’t know (just bragging here) I work for his ex wife and he, yes houston alexander himself, sent me (with her) video footage of him signing an aoutograph pic of himself and giving me a shoutout!

Either way i love the dude and his fighting style.

When he returns i hope he gets bonnar. I cant think of any other guys he can get. Maybe they’ll give him Gusmao or even kryztov. Whoever he gets i look forward to an “assasination”.

I like Houston Alexander and wish him nothing but success, nice to have Nebraska In Da House again

  • jcohl says:

I really like Alexander, but I’m concerned that while he might be a real house-wrecker outside of the UFC, and against fighters more inclined to stand up, like those in the Strikeforce Alliance and other regional-type promotions, he’s going to keep getting tripped up by ground-pounding fighters which seem to abound in the UFC.
Still and all, I wish him every success.

  • yoyoma says:

put him against anyone WITHOUT a ground game.

  • JENKINS! says:

    This is awesome news.
Ive always been a fan of Houston and I cant wait to see him back in the octagon.
However, I hope they dont give him a fighter like Krystof, because he has fought very well in his last few fights (even though he lost to Vera). And Krystof has some great submissions.
A fight with Bonnar would be interesting and it would draw some attention.
    Lots of possibilities.
I say throw him in there with Gusmao, or maybe Eliot Marshall.
Because I dont want to see Bonnar get KO’d.

    • love4thedead says:

I think Bonnar would be to dangerous a fighter for Houston. Than again Bonnar doesn’t have ko power so yeah it could be a good fight, now that I think about it.

      • jcohl says:

While its true that Stephan Bonnar doesn’t have the “Holy Sh!t!” KO power or explosiveness of Houston Alexander, what he DOES have in addition to superior training [Xtreme Couture] is superior experience and a more diversified skillset than Alexander, which includes a Golden Gloves championship, a Thai boxing tournament championship, blackbelts in multiple disciplines, including BJJ under Carlson Gracie.
I think a lot of Alexander, and want to see him do well, but I’m not 100% sure Bonnar is the right sort of opponent for him when he returns to the UFC.
Also, rumor has it that Bonnar is considering a drop to 185 after his last loss to Mark Coleman.

Finally, it bears posting that with the exception of Jon Jones, Bonnar’s other 5 losses have all come at the hands of champions or former champions [Coleman, Griffin 2x, Evans, and Machida].
I know right now its hard not to sort of give up on Stephan Bonnar, but this guy has a ton of skill and ability.
If he can get his sh!t together, and recover from professional, personal and physical issues, he’ll most likely return to the spotlight, ESPECIALLY if he drops to 185.
THAT and his part in the TUF finale with Forrest Griffin is why he still has a job with the UFC…

  • Vinz_Clortho says:

I would love to see Bonner re-focussed at 185. That would be great.. a match-up with down-for-the-count would be a great brawl.

  • Wanderlei Silva at catchweight.. imagine that !! ;) ( however realistically krystof would be a good battle.
