This was really the year to hit ADCC as well.
From all accounts Barcelona really laid out the red carpet this year, which is a great motivation to earn more money, so I can better support my submission grappling habit as well as my MMA habit…
It was actually a rather good event from what I’ve seen, I’m trying to find a few more video’s especially the crazy sub that Estima did over Galvao but I like the ADCC event and thank you Kris for posting the results and covering it here on the FrenZy
Sounds like the sub Imada pulled off in the Dayton Bellator event?
yes essentially but Estima pulled it off against Galvao which is “saying something” forsure.. I still can’t find the video of it but, it is said that it was one of the highlights of the entire ADCC
Thanks for posting these results, that’s really cool of you!
Lex you can see this weekends fights MMA, K~1, and ADCC in the forum section, I tried to post the important matches of the weekend
I would strongly, STRONGLY suggest watching the Jacare-Drysdale superfight if you want an encapsulated view of what submission grappling is all about…
rather dumb questions, but wasnt maia and marquardt supposed to be in this event? or is it an grapplers quest event that they are both entered in and have the possibility of facing each other this year or early next year?
It was reported (and I fell for it as well, got me pumped actually) that Maia v Nate “possibly” could face off in the ADCC if they both got past their first opponent.. the ADCC official website listed them along with GSP, Matt Hughes, Matt Serra, the NOGS, Palhares and many more UFC fighters to gain “attention” so it seems, none of these fighters were in this years ADCC
i thought dean lister was going to win the whole thing, i was wrong but at least dean won one round and he never got submitted
Honestly looking at the entire feild it is difficult to imagine that Dean Lister would have won the entire thing this year, I like Lister I just didn’t see him getting through this particular field of competitors…
Gunnar Nelson did extremely well but Xande Ribeiro was really the best on the mats
Great job be my favourite Bráulio Estima. But I have to say I was totally blown away by the young Gunnar Nelson. He weighted in only 83 kg in the -88 kg division! And beat the monster big Jeff Monson and submit Dave Avellan to take 4th place at the Absolute. Now that was impressive! How cool and calm he was at only 21 years of age was amazing. Explosive and very technical too. From what I heard he has only been training for 4 years now and comes from a karate background with a great standup too. Future UFC Champion I expect. A future ADCC champion for sure. As I said. Going for a kimura against Jeff Monson! As I said. He blew me away.
And figure Wolferin that Gunnar is a brown belt, he came into that fight with Monson “expected” to lose and shocked damnn near everyone, he put forth some really good performances, lets see him in two years, I hope he is proud of what he achieved..
Just found out that Renzo Gracie just awarded Gunnar his BlackBelt in BJJ… Congrats to Gunnar
