If you thought we were done hearing about the ill will between the Blackzilians and Alistair Overeem, well, evidently, that’s not the case.
After Overeem lest the renowned, Florida team, some of his ex-teammates, including Anthony Johnson, got into it with the heavyweight via the media. Overeem ended up moving to Jackson’s MMA in New Mexico, and by all accounts, the move has been a positive one.
Well, as Overeem gets set to face Roy Nelson at UFC 185 next weekend, Matt Mitrione had some less than kind things to say about him while appearing on “The Fighter and the Kid” . Mitrione relayed that before Ben Rothwell was set to fight Overeem last September, he gave the heavyweight a few tips. Why? (quotes via FOX Sports.com):
“I just don’t like Overeem. I’d like to see him lose,” Mitrione said.
“I don’t like him as a human being. … He is a smug, arrogant man. He came to the Blackzilians and ostracized himself almost immediately.
“He’d come in and work out at, like, 11:30 at night so nobody else could see what he was doing.”
If you’ve followed Mitrione over the years, then you know the fighter isn’t afraid to speak his mind. Clearly he doesn’t have fond memories of Overeem’s time with the Blackzilians…Interestingly enough, Mitrione is set to fight Rothwell on June 6th, which has the potential to be a pretty outstanding, violent fight.
Mitrione is currently riding a three fight win streak, while Rothwell has won back-to-back bouts (which includes a stoppage win over Overeem). It’s a big fight for the #13 ranked Mitrione, as a win over the #10 positioned Rothwell could move him into the top ten.
