The Japanese promotional group FEG, which runs the Dream MMA events, has long be suggesting that they had a big surprise in store for their already announced Dream 12 event, which will take place on October 25 in Osaka, Japan. They had already released a short promotional video in which were a few shots of a cage which led some people to believe that would be the surprise. Those people were correct, and Dream has officially confirmed that with a new promotional video for the event (included below).

Since the organizations creation, all of its fights have taken place inside an over sized boxing ring along the lines of the fighting surface popularized by the organization Pride. However the fighting surface for the upcoming Dream 12 will be a six sided cage they have title “The White Cage,” the promotion as appropriately named the October 25 event “Cage of the Rising Sun.”

Also revealed in the promotional video were nine of the fighters to be featured. Those nine fighters are Eddie Alvarez, Paulo Filho, Katsunori Kikuno, Yoshiro Maeda, Andrews Nakahara, Alistair Overeem, Kiyoshi Tamura, and Marius Zaromskis. Another fighter to be featured on the card was revealed on the organizations website, that fighter is Murilo “Ninja” Rua.

I would actually prefer a ring. Works better for the kickboxers. Also, like to try to keep those old Pride days alive.

Yes, kickboxing should be held in a ring.
MMA on the other hand, should be in a cage, as it is a more favorable proving ground for well-rounded fighters.
And there is a reason why PRIDE died, and the UFC is at the top of the food chain…
      ;)

I though PRIDE died because of mismanagement and the Yakuza ties. Although their Kamikaze event blew chunks, they were still filling the big arenas in their last few shows. Plus, UFC bought them out with the intentions of keeping PRIDE alive. Dana’s life was threatened by an unsaid source (so Dana said at his Fan Expo address), and thus PRIDE died.

I’ve heard a lot about the Japanese mafia, and their involvement in shoot-fighting and so forth, but without any sort of substantiation I try to leave that stuff to the MMA conspiracy theorists, along with the whole Fedor/Eastern Promises thing.
As far as I can tell, PRIDE was surpassed by the UFC because Zuffa was putting out a better product, and possessed a better business model, which in large part invovled the Octagon, standardized rules and weightclasses, periodic urine testing, and so on.
I’m not saying that PRIDE wasn’t entertaining to watch, it just wasn’t going to survive in North America once Dana White and the Fertitas got their sh!t together with the UFC.

Should be a good show. I wonder if the UFC has plans to buy them or strikforce out in the next few years.

    • jcohl says:

I’m sure Zuffa “plans” to buy everyone who doesn’t self-destruct, like EliteXC and Affliction did, unless they’re too small to bother with, like BoDog or NAGA Reality Fighting.
However, there is always going to be some competitor somewhere, no matter if you promote MMA or sell hot pretzels in front of the arena, so I’m thinking that Scott Coker and Strikeforce will remain a seperate entity, and continue to gather what strength they can by pulling together aspects of DREAM, M-1 Global, Adrenaline, and anyone else who just wants to promote MMA and not fall under the ultimate thumb of El Supremo Blanco and los Fertitias…

cage sucks, you can’t see the action. More holding and stuff, ring rock,.
