Derrick “The Black Beast” Lewis lived up to his description of being a power puncher as he took on Judoka, Ruan Potts – who was looking for his first UFC victory.
Unfortunately for the South African, he fell to 0-3 as Derrick Lewis pounded his way to a second round referee stoppage. Rotts had Lewis in trouble in the first round as he caught the bigger man in a tight knee bar which looked just a few moments away from ending the fight, but Lewis carefully and methodically found his way out and on top of the helpless Ruan Potts. Although Lewis was put in submission trouble, he seemed confident getting on top of Potts and landing thundering ground-and-pound.
Potts hung in there until the second round where the gas tank seemed just about depleted. With no energy to move and escape, Potts was forced to take Lewis’s biggest shots from the top position. Referee Jerin Valel stopped the fight at 3:18 of the second round in a heavyweight collision on UFC 184’s undercard after giving Ruan Potts every opportunity to get himself out of trouble.
