Roger Huerta Focused on Fighting, Willing to Return to UFC
Lightweight Roger Huerta, who finished out his UFC contract last Wednesday at UFC Fight Night 19 with a loss to Gray Maynard, says he’s again focused on fighting following back-to-back losses and is willing to return to the UFC.
“I think it could have gone either way and it’s my fault I let it go to the judges and I can’t go out like that,” Huerta recently told Sherdog. “I can’t go out with two losses in a row. I don’t think I’m going to call it quits anytime soon. I’m still open to acting. Hopefully we get something going with that, but I’m not going to prioritize (acting) now. I’ll still prioritize fighting. If the UFC wants me back, I’d be willing to go back.”
Prior to his losses to Kenny Florian and Maynard, Huerta had won 16-straight, including UFC victories over Leonard Garcia and Clay Guida.

I heard there’s a spot open to play “Howlin’ Mad” Murdoch.
Looks like what happened was, Huerta wanted to take time off to focus on his acting career. Then he found out that he didn’t have much of an acting career, and needed to focus on what he did have a career in, fighting.
Exactly.
I’ll add to that thought by saying that Huerta best be damned sure he wants to fight fulltime in the UFC, because in Fall 2009 the Octagon is no place for half-a$$ing it.
You may, and again I say MAY, be able to get away with that out on some Indian reservation casino or local show, but in the UFC you’re either all in or you’re knocked or choked out…
Huerta wasn’t exactly stopped by Maynard I doubt that he was “half-a$$ing it”
It is good to see that he is refocused on his fighting career, I think that he still has “time” to reconnect with the fans such as us
But what about his modeling career? Yeah, I think that is exactly what happened. Can’t fault the guy for wanting to be an actor but I didn’t see how he had a future in that. Huerta doesn’t have a big enough name to cross over IMO. Someone like Chuck does but Chuck has about as much acting skill as I do. Probably less actually.
Im glad to see huerta’s fire was relight in his loss to maynard…..I cant wait to see huerta back
cool Avatar Gun,
i’m glad at this news, i’ve always been a Huerta fan and if he does stay focused, i think he can challenge anyone at 155 and maybe we might see Huerta-Sanchez in Mexico???
lol, just cause an event is in mexico doesn’t mean they want to see two mexicans fight.
There should be a 3 way match between sanchez, huerta and escudero
well this is atleast some good news today… though how loyal he will be if things are looking up for him again. he was quick to drop the ufc before.
I think you guys are right. Huerta is probably waking up from his dream of becoming an actor.
I like the guy and hope he comes back strong. IMO if he pushed maynard he could have won the fight. Like you guys said though, he has to commit to fighting 100% or he’ll get his ass kicked.
LOL Huerta’s fire relight, yah right, Could not act so he’s returning to fight nothing more than that!!!
heres hoping he can come back wit the same fire that won me ova as a fan cuz it just hasnt been there his past 2 fights. and even wit hes lack of focus on fighting he went to a decision against 2 of the toughest lws in the ufc.
Change your name to floriankennyflorian.
Maybe he can have a talk with Rampage to convince him not to quit and then all the fans will be happy
Seriously though, glad to have him back. Hopefully he and the UFC can make it work. It was nice seeing him fight like 6 times a year, as his fights are never boring.
i thought that huerta fought surprisingly well against maynard, especially after taking such a long layoff. i would have tapped. now that he knocked off the cage rust i think that he will continue to excel in the ufc and continue to put on great fights.
i hope this isn’t because his acting carreer is going bad, i’d like him to do 1 or more fights against big names, beat them and then have a succesful acting carrer
I’m sure the fact that you haven’t seen Huerta’s face or heard his name anywhere outside of the MMA community is a contributing factor to his sudden “rededication” to the sport…
Welcome back, glad you came to your senses.
Hope to see you back. A few of your fights are in my all time favorites!
i want to see huerta in a mainstream movie as a key supporting actor or maybe even the lead role.
Huerta is still a threat to anyone at 155. the guy looks better every time he comes out, is young and obviously has a ton of heart. im not a huge fan of his but i cant deny the guys skills. a rededicated huerta is a force at 155 for sure.
