UFC 184: Prelim Results And Play-by-Play

Okay. UFC 184 is ready to kick off in lovely Los Angeles. The preliminary card will feature severable, notable vets in action, some of whom include “Kid” Yamamoto, Mark Munoz and Mr. Tim Means.

Let’s get to the action, alrighty?

Masio Fullen vs. Alexander Torres

Torres takes a hard shot seconds into the bout. Torres looks to clinch but Fullen pushes away. Wow. Torres blasts Fullen with a straight right that wobbles him badly. Fullen is firing back but is clearly hurt badly. Fullen tags Torres with a counter right. Some nice action here. Fullen appears to have recovered and is chucking kicks. Crazy. Torres sends Fullen crashing to the mat with another right hand. Fullen gets back up and is taking more shots. This is nuts. Fullen sweeps Torres to the mat. Fullen lands a couple of elbows from above. With the action back standing, Fullen flurries in but Torres counters. Round ends.

Round 2: Torres clinches up early into the round. Not much going on. The accomplished wrestler lands an elbow to Fullen and breaks away. Fullen throws a head kick and then defends a takedown attempt. Fullen plants a hard left. Fullen is pressuring Torres. As round nears its end Fullen comes in with a nice flurry of punches. Round ends.

Round 3: Wow. Both guys come out chucking punches to begin the round. Torres wings an overhand right that misses by a hair. Fullen comes in and lands a nice left hook. Fullen launches a hard knee to the body. Fullen is finding his range–case in point, he blasts Torres with a straight right. Torres changes levels, shoots in, but can’t get the takedown. Action slows. Fullen appears to be the fresher of the two. Torres comes charging in and briefly takes Fullen down. Latter gets warned for grabbing the fence. Fight comes to an end.

James Krause vs. Valmir Lazaro

Krause throws a couple of leg kicks. So does Lazaro. Krause throws a headkick which Lazaro ducks under. Lazaro is flicking a nice jab. Krause shoots in but Lazaro gets back to his feet. The two are clinched against the fence. After they break, Lazaro lands a nice right. Action’s momentarily stopped after a clash of the heads. No harm done apparently. Krause clinches up again. Lazaro is starting to land some hard shots in the striking exchanges. Round ends.

Round 2: Krause plants a nice right hook and briefly takes Lazaro down. The latter is still firing off a nice jab. Krause shoots in again but it’s stuffed. Krause is starting to wear the shots a little bit. Krause digs a thumping hook to the body. Both men are firing jabs. Krause shoots in again but it’s stopped. Fight’s momentarily stopped after an apparent low blow. Krause comes in looking for the clinch but takes a couple of knees. Lazaro wings a hard left that just misses. Now Lazaro is chucking some really hard shots. Krause tries to trip Lazaro down but can’t. Round ends.

Round 3: Both lightweights are keeping busy with punches. Lazaro flurries in nicely. The latter is mixing in some nice leg kicks. Lazaro briefly gets taken down but pops right up. Each fighter is keeping active but no telling shots are landing. Krause tries another takedown but can’t get it. Punches from both guys. Final round ends.

Derrick Lewis vs. Ruan Potts 

Lewis is moving forward as Potts comes firing in periodically with a kick here and there. Lewis charges in but Potts clinches up. The latter took a low knee and the action is halted. Potts fires a couple of kicks but then stumbles to the mat. Potts is looking for a kneebar. Lewis is trying to roll out and does. Wow. Frantic action. Potts shoots in and gets the takedown. Potts is working from sidemount. Potts goes for a Kimura and gives up the position. Lewis is back to his feet. Wow. Lewis bombs down a right hand from above. Potts is looking for the takedown against the fence. Round ends.

Round 2: Lewis fires a headkick that misses. Action spills to the ground and in the scramble, Potts eats a huge left hand. Both guys look gassed and then some…Lewis moves into sidemount. Lewis is firing down punches from mount. Potts is covering up but isn’t doing much of anything. Wow. Lewis continues to bomb down shots and the fight’s stopped.

Dhiego Lima vs. Tim Means

Means chucks a hard kick to begin the fight. Lima returns. The latter lands a nice inside leg kick. Means flurries in nicely. Lima fires a nice right but eats a but left. Wow. Means sends him crashing to the mat with a huge knee. Means swarms in. Means lands a big elbow that buckles Lima after he gets to his feet. Lima is fighting back but Means is piling on the punches. Wow. Another shot sends Lima to the mat and the fight’s done. What an impressive and vicious performance by “The Dirty Bird.”

Roman Salazar vs. Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto

Yamamoto comes out firing. No touch of gloves. “Kid” is very light on his feet. Salazar tries a head kick that misses. Yamamoto wings a right hook that glances off Salazar. The latter shoots in but Yamamoto defends. “Kid” lands a leg kick. Yamamoto takes a finger to the eye. Action resumes. Salazar charges in but Yamamoto moves away. Salazar charges in again but doesn’t land anything. Pretty uneventful round ends.

Round 2: Yamamoto lands an inside leg kick but gets taken down for his efforts. “Kid” quickly pops up and out. Yamamoto chucks a left to the body. Salazar charges in, looking for the clinch, and takes an eye poke. Fight resumes. Salazar plants a left. The latter comes in but eats a left. Salazar comes in but takes another eye poke. Action’s halted. Salazar is having trouble seeing out of his left eye clearly. The bantamweight says he can’t see out of it. Fights called.

Roan Carneiro vs. Mark Munoz

Carneiro throws a leg kick to begin the fight. Munoz tries changing levels as Carneiro comes in, but winds up on his back. Carneiro spins to the back of Munoz and is hunting for a choke. Wow. Munoz is out cold. What a comeback win for Carneiro.
