UFC 103 Medical Suspensions: Cro Cop Out Indefinitely
The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation on Monday released the medical suspensions for Saturday’s UFC 103 event in Dallas, with heavyweight Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic suspended indefinitely following his co-main event loss to Junior dos Santos.
A torn eyelid and other damage suffered in the loss will force Cro Cop to be cleared by a doctor before he could return to action.
Rich Franklin, Martin Kampmann, Frank Trigg, Hermes Franca, Cole Miller, and Steve Lopez were all suspended until October 20 after suffering knockout losses on the card.
The remainder of the event’s 26 fighters were issued mandatory minimum suspensions until September 27 or 29.

That cut on Mirko’s eyelid was nasty. Nobody saw it in the bar and they were all disappointed, I was drunk as a skunk and I can still remember the punch that did it. It reminded me of the cut on randy’s eye against belfort. The cut on his forehead was leaking down too with sweat into his right eye. Cro-cop is a god damn warrior though, he took like 3 or 4 knees that would be the equivelent (sp?) of being kicked in the solarplexies by a horse.
I honestly think Mirko is out, at least of the UFC, more than indefinitely.
Its clear that his skills and his body, after 2 decades of hard military service and combat sports, have eroded past the point of being able to beat modern MMA fighters on kickboxing alone, and he hasn’t got either the physical tools or the mental will to adapt the the cage, and I believe he’s admitted as much in an online interview posted over in the forum area.
I would like to see Mirko maybe do some sort of PRIDEful Japanese farewell tour, pick up a few fat checks and KTFO a few similiarly monodimensional fighters, and then ride off into the sunset and enjoy his well-deserved retirement.
If not, he needs to get with someone like Greg Jackson and and him, “hey, whats up with all of this cage fighting well-roundedness stuff, anyways?”…
I hope Mirko calls it quits. IMO the old Mirko would have put a clinic on Dos Santos. Nothing agaisnt Santos, he hits hard and is a good fighter, but the old Mirko was a destroyer. He just doesnt seem to be into it anymore.
@jchol
Dude, seriously?! You didn’t see that I posted a story on that on the main site?
I must have missed it at the time I posted…
most of these suspensions are a result of getting ko’d, i think this is othe first time i’ve seen so many dudes on the same card get suspended for getting ko’d, ususally it’s for safety reasons or cuts and stuff like that but ko’s..
Man, the knee that Cro Cop received was vicious! Right in the eye I think… it must hurt
it will be a nice little side note for dos santos’s cv eh?
