Rich FranklinFighters weighed-in today at the Dallas Convention Center Arena for UFC 103, which will take place Saturday at the American Airlines Center in Dallas. Pay-per-view headliner Rich Franklin made weight for his 195-pound catchweight bout, tipping the scale at 195 on the nose. Co-headliner Vitor Belfort missed weight by a quarter of a pound after stripping down on his initial try, but later got down to the contracted 196 pounds.

Spike TV-televised combatant Efrain Escudero failed to make weight on his first attempt, weighing in at 157 pounds, one pound over the the non-title lightweight limit of 156. He, like Belfort, was given time to shed the extra weight and did so, weighing in at 156 pounds on a subsequent attempt.

What’s up with all these fatties not making weight? Classy of Tyson to agree to the 159 weight, but how long ago did they make the agreement? Kind of speculative on Franca’s part.

Dare we ever see Cro Cop at light heavy?

  • Vinz_Clortho says:

Cro-cop would be a giant LHW

  • Andrew says:

Guys that come in 1 pound over is fine. There are multiple factors why that could be. Coming in 4 pounds(3 pounds)shouldn’t happen. Hasn’t Franca not made weight another time?

  • Vitor Belfort vs. Rich Franklin
    - Vitor Belfort via tko or ko …he’s coming for you Anderson….

Mirko Cro-cop vs Junior Dos Santos
-Mirko Cro-cop via tko or ko…most likely via Left Kick Of Doom, Dos Santos is still too green and kinda short……

    Frank Trigg vs Josh Koscheck
-Frank Trigg via decision or tko…Koscheck has a weak chin and overrated stand-up,Twinletoes will get the upset

    Martin Kampmann vs Paul Daley
-Paul Daley via tko or ko…..believe it, Daley will mess things up the rankings at 170….rememeber that I MK4 called this outcome

    Hermes Franca vs Tyson Griffin
-Hermes Franca via sub..Tyson is very good, but Franca is bigger and has better BJJ AND Tyson doesn’t have ko power

    Efrain Escudero vs. Cole Miller
-Cole Miller via sub…although Miller is kinda fruity he’s got subs

    Tomasz Drwal vs. Drew McFedries
-Drew Mcfedries vis tko or ok….unless Drwal has subs he’s going to sleep

    • Justin says:

You can’t weight till I post a predictions thread later? ;)

    • ufcmanz says:

(By no means is this a attack just stating a few facts)
Marvelknight decent predictions but, just far as 3 of your points good nothing really supports them that well ..

1)Dos Santos is to green and still kind of slow??
Crocop hasn’t showin any power yet in the UFC { Al-turk eye poke then the finish, Sanchez decent but not the top half of the HW division, 2 losses Kongo and Gonzaga} I mean Dos Santos is 2-0{biggest win Werdum / probably top 5 HW in UFC at the time}While in the UFC with 2 Flash KO’s we haven’t seen his chin tested my a striker yet or his Wrestling or Ground game, Carwin has kind of the same record as Dos Santos and he’s number 1 contender
Carwin 3-0, 3 Flash KO’s and biggest win vs Gonzaga

. if you mean Dos Santos is slow because he picks his shots and throws bombs , I mean for a HW he’s got decent hand speed tho, I mean some of the best has been cought by that head kick. Its wouldn’t be just because he’s green.

      2) Franca has good BJJ , but Tyson has never been submitted and Franca hasn’t Submitted a guy in a while

      3) Josh Koscheck has a weak chin? He has only ever been KO’ed once in his last fight my Paul Thiago, and He has fought guys like GSP / Thiago Alves / Diego Sanchez / Chris Lytle …looked like a flash KO to me, {not sure but it may have been stop early not saying it was tho}, and the last time Trigg showed the TKO power it was my Soccer kicks.

Just giving you a few points to reflect on , who knows you could get these all right , but I would say your odds on each fight I have brought up is below 50%

does anyone else feel that rich is being left in limbo with the catchweight fights?

    • Jazzkok says:

yeah i feel that he’s always fighting someone @ catchweight. Guys trying to enter a new weight class. It’s almost like franklin is the portal from 185 to 205 or from 205 to 185.

    • jcohl says:

      Absolutely.
Over in the forum we’ve talked at length about how both thru not so much design but circumstance Rich Franklin has been sort of hung out to dry.
First he got sideswiped by a fast-tracked Anderson Silva, and then after losing the rematch and winning relatively pointless fights against Okami, MacDonald, and Lutter, he made the move to 205, only to again be faced with the spectre of Anderson Silva possibly barring his title path.
THEN he gets stuck in these catchweight bouts which basically do nothing for him at 205. Now some have said that Franklin is making the best of a bad situation, because he can’t beat the titleholders at either 185 or 205, so he’s carving out a niche for himself at 195.
I can see the logic of that position, but the problem therein is there are almost no 195 competitors, and certanily no title at that weight.
That being the case, exactly why are these fights being signed, and to what end?
Therefore Franklin is reduced to almost exhibitionary status, fighting transients moving between weightclasses, and hoping not to almost lose an eye, and a tough razor-thin decision, like he did against Hendo.
And when he does tough out a decision win, like he did against Wanderlei Silva, he doesn’t really get the full credit for the win, but rather half-credit because the win came at an imaginary weightclass.
So Franklin AGAIN is facing a weightclass transient in Vitor Belfort, and AGAIN has to wonder, to a certain extent, why?

Being some sort of promotional catchweight gatekeeper is IMO no way for a classy guy and former champion like Franklin to finish out his career.

  • jcohl says:

    Just a thought here.
If Vitor Belfort has trouble making catchweight 195, then isn’t he going to have problems making 185?
Does anyone specifically recall if he had weigh-in issues when he fought Terry Martin or Matt Lindland?

  • oldman420 says:

I really think that Rich would be happy to the 185 division after fighting 3 more fights at 195 catch weight to regain his mw title.

    • Jazzkok says:

i agree that he would have been happy to stay @ mw and would ideally like to return to the division he once ruled over but i’m sorry oldman420, did you forget that Anderson Silva is the current 185 champ? He demolished franklin twice, that’s why he moved up to 205. And when or if anderson isn’t champ because he loses, gives up the title or retires, you have dudes like henderson(who beat him) and maqrquardt who are more likely to become champ.

  • oldman420 says:

See, I disagree with you jcohl. I think Franklin is just byding his him for anderson to go away. I don’t think he would have any problem fighting dan or nate either, both of which I think are competetive fights that I think Franklin could win. Not to mention myself and many other think that Franklin won that fight against Dan, and if it went 5 I could have even seen Franklin winning that one handily

    • jcohl says:

      “Biding his time?”
You may be right, but its been 2 years, and Franklin isn’t getting any younger. How much longer is he supposed to wait?
And if anything, Silva appears to be dragging his feet in terms of picking an opponent at any weight class until after Machida faces Rua.

Maybe if Dana White could get Anderson Silva to commit to one weight class or another, which he might do if his boy Machida somehow loses to Rua, Franklin could enjoy a successful return to 185.
I think the Hendo fight was definitely disputable, and Franklin has the intelligence, technical skills, and cage control to be competative with Marquardt. However its in no means a certainty that he’d regain the 185 title with competition like Hendo, Marquardt, Demiam Maia, and Vitor Belfort all plying their trade at that weight.

One thing I do know, and that is if Franklin can somehow exorcise his personal demon of Anderson Silva out of the 185ers, it would be hella easier for him to regain that belt than to try and force his way past Machida, Rua, Rampage, Rashad, Forrest Griffin, and Lord knows who else for the 205 title…

      • ufcmanz says:

Hey jcohl , I just wanted to add to your post of Franklin “However its in no means a certainty that he’d regain the 185 title with competition like Hendo, Marquardt, Demiam Maia, and Vitor Belfort” even Wanderlei gave him a good hard fight.

  • torch says:

rich looks in tremndous shape man..i think rich might take this one..UD

  • torch says:

after this i hope rich goes to 205 and stays there..
