Fedor Emelianenko
Recent Strikeforce acquisition, and top ranked heavyweight fighter Fedor Emelianenko will make his Strikeforce debut against Brett Rogers on national television. The promotions first event to be televised on CBS since striking their deal with the network will take place on November 7, 2009. The bout itself has been locked up for some time, though the date had yet to be finalized. As of this time the venue from which the card will be broadcast is still uknown. There has also yet to be any other bouts rumored for the event.

Emelianenko is regarded by many as the best heavyweight in the world, though he is still somewhat unknown in regards to the general MMA audience in the US. By placing the 30-1-1 fighter on Strikeforce’s inaugural CBS card, that is likely to change. Previous MMA events shown on CBS, promoted by EliteXC, brought in as many as four million viewers.

Rogers is an undefeated young fighter, who has actually already been on CBS while he was with Elite XC. Rogers also shares a common last opponent with Emelianenko, both men having defeated former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski in their last outings, though Rogers did so more quickly.

CBS is no stranger to televising MMA, having thrice aired EliteXC events, however this will be the first Strikeforce promoted event to air on the network. The last EliteXC card shown on the network was EliteXC Heat on October 4, 2008 and pulled in an estimated 4.3 million viewers.

Its good to see that CBS hasn’t waved off MMA.
Maybe thats a good sign that Dana White can bring home a network deal for the UFC.
Hopefully this fight will do well for CBS, so that their competitors will be more inclined to “keep up” and come to terms with Zuffa…

Dana did an interview tuesday on The Dam Radio Show and he said that he guarantees that the UFC will have a network deal done within a year and that they plan on doing 4 shows a year.

Smart move for Strikforce to showcase Fedor(unless Rogers KO’s him) on their first televised show, especially after all the cancelled fights from the last show.Hope they can put together a good lineup for our FREE viewing pleasure.

The Carano v Cyborg fight card did have some changes to it, then again som had nothing to with Strikeforce as an org whatsoever, Nick Diaz not wanting to take a drug test, Overeem “breaking” his hand in a bar fight,Thomson still having a broken ankle… So Scott Coker did what he could and presented us with a fun card, the Mousasi Man destroying Babalu, Melendez dominating Ishida, Werdum looking solid, Jay Heiron looking decent, and well Cyborg becoming A world champion as well! Helll I had fun and the entire card was pretty darn good

        * a few “rumors”, Sheilds v Mayhem will happen on this card Mousasi will be on this card, Cris Cyborg might be on this card and well there are a few other things that I know but I will let the FrenZy staff writers break the news properly cheers guys ;-)

      • Jaymz says:

FR-Did you misinterpret my comment?Cause I wasn’t slighting the card,I enjoyed it as well. It’s just that the changes may have rubbed some viewers the wrong way and this is a good way to make amends,as well as gain new fans.As for the UFC tv deal,I guess I didn’t have to mention the show Dana was on.Didn’t mean to offend,I was just responding to jcohl’ comment. And I hope some of those ‘rumors’ you mentioned are true.

      • fr702 says:

Jaymz, sorry if my statements came across as an attack on you

      • Jaymz says:

fr-No worries.just didn’t want to get on your bad side.lol

  • Figs says:

Not nearly as exciting as it would have been for him to fight anyone in the UFC. If anyone beats Fedor, I would like it to be along the lines of a humble Brett Rogers. I think Fedor will make very quick work with him on the ground though.

  • fr702 says:

Well this fight happening on November 7th would mean that TWO fight cards in TWO days for Strikeforce, not too bad for any org not bad at all…

  • Bzul3 says:

Good for Strikeforce, and good for us fans who get to see the top heavyweight in the world take on a top 10 heavyweight for FREE!! The fans cant lose.

  • swankcm says:

brett rogers? Top ten heavyweight in the world?? Was it his win against Arlovski, or his win against Abongo Humphrey that put him in the top ten Bzul3???? I know that some people rank him in the top ten but does anyone on this site actually reconise Brett Rogers in the top ten for heavyweights I’m just sayin….

    • Bzul3 says:

The heavyweight division is weak. And I do believe most people agree that hes a top 10 HW right now. If u think Carwin or Velazquez is in the top 10 (Im assuming u do, but I could be wrong), then Rogers by default has to be in there as well if not ahead of them for beating the tougher competition. And Rogers did it in a more dominating fashion.

    • dbiz says:

Ok, the onus is on you then. Name 9 ACTIVE fighters that are above him. I’ll wait.

      • jcohl says:

OK, fine, someone had to name 9 [or more] HWs above Brett Rogers to end this “top 10 HW in the world” nonsense, so here goes:
        Fedor
        Josh Barnett
        Fabricio Werdum
        Alistair Overeem
        Brock Lesnar
        Frank Mir
        Big Nog
        Randy Couture
        Chieck Kongo
        Gabriel Gonzaga
        Mirko CroCop

And even though I didn’t include him, the hard truth is that Brett Rogers probably wouldn’t make it out of the first round with Shane Carwin, but then again, neither has anyone else really…
        ;)
        Any questions?

  • this is a goo sign most definitely. Just hope that the UFC can get on network t.v soon and people can see why MMA has become so popular.

  • Jerod says:

I don’t care for either Fedor or Strikeforce, but this is definately a serving of humble pie for me because I think it’s a great call, I am impressed, and I look forward to watching it. It seems like a win-win for us all. It’s an all-skate. Should be a good way to market Fedor to the casuals out there, but I’m sure hoping Rogers can make it rain.

Count on UFC 101 being free on Spike that night, UFC 102 being free on MTV that night, and UFC 103 being free on ESPN8 ‘the ocho’ that night.

    • fr702 says:

      The ocho~ super classic

is it because Strikeforce signed Fedor that you don’t like the org, for I find that a lot of people around the interwebbie have that feeling, like o I have to hate Strikeforce cuz they signed Fedor! I personally don’t get that thought process, anyways just askig.

      • Jerod says:

no no, i dont hate strikeforce, i dont even dislike the org, i just don’t care for them one way or the other. But I like that they put their golden goose out there on the networks for free. I think it takes a little bit of moxie. Kudos to them in my opinion.

      • Jerod says:

Although I should have seperated Fedor and Strikeforce when I said I didn’t care for either of them. Because I am indifferent towards strikeforce, but I think Fedor is greedy and overrated and I did my best to keep it at that to avoid fighter bashing. Come to think of it, I am now a huge Brett Rogers fan.

  • Crmtde13 says:

I used to see lyoto as an over rated kalib starnes until he started knocking out fools. I now appricate his style. As for fedor, I used to like him back in the pride days, until he became a greedy can crusher. Even though it didn’t work out with the ufc, I gotta give some props for stepping in the cage for the first time. What I’m trying to say(on my iPhone) is I want fedor to prove me wrong. Step up and take on the best…and this will do(strikeforce) for now.

  • dbiz says:

Cool. This means I’ll have to get cable to avoid Fedor, I guess.

  • Guz says:

Awesome. I can’t wait to see Rogers topple the “King” and for FREE too!

  • midgetman says:

possibly the biggest card in mma history two and ufc has nothing to do with it seriously it will b huge gegard mousasi and cyborg rummored to b on the card i cant wait
