Following Max Holloway’s win over Cole Miller, the rising featherweight’s expected to fight top contender Cub Swanson, and he believes fans will be ‘blessed’ with an epic, highlight reel fight (See what I did there? Holloway’s nickname is “Blessed”…)
If you missed it, Holloway recently reported that he’s agreed to face Swanson at UFC on FOX 15, which will go down on April 18th in Newark, New Jersey. While the fight’s a big one for Holloway, since he’s ranked #13 and Swanson is #5, the 23 year-old says the bout will be special for another reason.
While discussing the upcoming match-up at the post UFC Fight Night 60 press conference, here is what Holloway had to say about the scrap (quotes via MMA Junkie.com):
“I look up to Cub in a lot of ways. His ninja style vs. my ninja style should be a great ninja fight. I can’t wait.”
“He’s a striker,” Holloway said. “I’m a striker, so it should be a fun one to watch. You’re going to see a bunch of cool spinning stuff.”
Yes, on paper, this certainly has the makings of something special. As Holloway noted, Swanson is a noted striker and finisher, who not long ago was riding a six fight winning streak. In November, however, Swanson’s title shot run was halted by Frankie Edgar, who submitted him in the fifth round.
Holloway, meanwhile, scored his fifth straight win on Saturday by working his way to a unanimous decision win over Miller. Since Holloway was decisioned by Conor McGregor in 2013, Holloway has also defeated Will Chope, Andre Fili, Clay Collard and Akira Corassani.
UFC on FOX 15 will be headlined by a middleweight bout between top contenders Lyoto Machida and Luke Rockhold.
