Phillipe Nover: There’s Nothing to Worry About, My Health is Great
Thanks for all the concern from my friends and fans on my health. Let me explain the situation that occurred this evening. I’ll start off by saying there’s nothing to worry about at this time. My health is great. I feel incredible and I am in peak tip top shape. My weight cut was only about 8 or 9 pounds overall. I dieted as usual for the cut. The weigh-ins were great. I felt good and healthy the whole time here in Oklahoma.
Fight day I woke up and ate as usual and again felt fine. I was in the convention center back stage with my corner. All if a sudden I told my trainer Ralph that I wasn’t feeling to good. I told him I’m going to sit down and I took my headphones off. That’s the last thing I remember until waking up on the floor. Apparently my body stiffened up and I lost consciousness. At that point the Oklahoma commission’s doctors came over and asked me a bunch of questions. Next thing I was interview by a few EMTs and the doctors called fight off.I really can’t explain what went wrong. I wound up going to the ER here and the doctor said everything is normal blood, urine, and CT of my head. The only thing abnormal is my blood sugar being high. But that could be from eating so much in the last 24 hrs after the weigh-ins.
I was so devastated I couldn’t fight that I broke out in tears. But the fact of the matter is I should take care of this problem and see what’s wrong with me so it will never happen again. My health is my only concern. I know I’ll be back to fight. I’m still looking forward to the fight with Stout. I have to see what’s wrong with me first and I’ll be back on the road for the next one. Thanks for all your support. I’ll keep you all posted.
UFC lightweight and TUF 8 runner-up Phillipe Nover blogs about a seizure he suffered last night before UFC Fight Night 19 in Oklahoma City that forced his scheduled matchup against Sam Stout to be scratched from event’s undercard.

He might be Anemic?
Its good that he still wishes to fight Stout and I do hope that his health is tip top and that he is honestly ok!
Yeah but like you said before, ‘it’s just not normal’.and it’s not the first time it’s happened.I was thinking nervous system or like ramdoc said maybe epilepsy.Whatever it is I hope he gets it figured out and fixed.
Good friend of mine has the same problem.
After multiple researches by doctors they could not find anything specific , but they told him it’s epilepsy. Now he takes some pills and he is ok , but I guess if he would be MMA fighter he would never pass doctors clearance.
Hey gang, long time reader, noob poster. Nover prolly just has epilepsy. Luck of the draw man. Syncope (fainting) is the bane of the medical profesion but… my best guess is he has a lowered seizure threshold and had a seizure secondary to too much salt in his blood from cutting or too little from putting the weight back on. Both of which can give you seizures. Could be anemia if he’s a vegetarian and doesn’t eat other sources of iron i.e., spinach, seafood etc. I might be being a little cavalier but I would let him fight after he’s cleared with some basic tests…
I’m happy this dude is ok but come on man if your having seizures you should re-think your future in fighting dude because what if during a fight you have a seizure and the dude your fighting doesn’t realize it and still beats on you? Happy the dude is ok but he should seriously not fight at least not any time soon until he really can figure things out.
ya but even if he does go back to his day job of being a nurse and he has epilepsy i could see it being just as damaging to that career…
in any case i hope he gets this figured out… he has great potential to be a force inside the oct…
there is however a possible job for him in MMA if he doesnt want to do the hospital nurse thing… he could always become a cut-man
I’m glad he’s ok too. The thing is, no matter what profession he’s in, he might have seizures and I’d rather him be in the ring than driving a bus or working construction and then have a seizure! I might be mistaken but I think he’s a nurse right? I wonder if anti-seizure meds are disqualifying by the athletic commissions?? Anyway, best of luck to him.
it seems to me that its stress-related. from watching tuf, Phillipe is exceptionally passionate about fighting and always seems to pump himself up to the maximum before a fight. some fighters fight relaxed, but he pushes himself to the threshold of intensity. i know he can be and already is, in many ways, a great fighter. i’m sure he would have won the ultimate fighter finale if only he had a good sprawl. i just hope that he can overcome the pressure of being on tv and doing what he is so passionate about in front of millions of people. if he cannot, then i can see this situation reoccurring and possibly even getting progressively worse.
