WEC 44 Announced for November 18 in Las Vegas; Mike Brown vs. Jose Aldo Official
The WEC officially announced today that they have scheduled WEC 44 for The Pearl at The Palms in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event is scheduled to take place on November 18th, and will be headlined by a featherweight title match between champion Mike Thomas Brown and challenger Jose Aldo.
In addition to this official bout, MMAJunkie is reporting that a bantam weight matchup between Frank Gomez and Seth Dikun has been unofficially added to the card, and FiveKnuckles says that Kyle Dietz will likely face Noah Thomas on the November 18th card.
Mike Brown became the WEC featherweight champion defeating Urijah Faber via TKO in November of 2008. Since winning the title, Brown has defended it twice, against Leonard Garcia and most recently in a rematch against Faber this past June. Brown is currently on a ten fight win-streak, including the three title fights.
Aldo is a rising Brazilian star with a 16-1 record, including a current eight fight win-streak. Aldo made his WEC debut in June of 2008 with a TKO victory over Alexandre Franca Nogueira. Since that time he has finished every bout via T/KO and twice earned “Knockout of the Night” honors, including his most recent eight second TKO of Cub Swanson.

Jose Aldo (my man) going for his shot at the champ, Mike Thomas Brown is a beast and perhaps Aldo’s crazy asss might have something for him, this fight will NOT go to decision, I can’t wait its gonna be sick
I have to agree. I can’t wait for this fight, but I almost hope it goes for at least a round or more. And then Aldo disappears in a cloud of smoke like a ninja.
Aldo is my favorite 145lber. For sure this wont go to a decision. I am pulling for Aldo but its hard to bet against Mike Brown. Hope Aldo can bring home the gold.
I think Brown has to much for Aldo to handle!!
i have to agree. Brown is one powerfull 145er and aldo is a smaller dude. But if aldo can work his speed around the grappling he can pull this one off.
Don’t get me wrong at all I like Mike Thomas Brown, and what he has done in the WEC is well awesome.. He has handed it to Urijah TWICE and he is on a 10 fight win streak (4subs, 3decisions, 3(t)ko) and the names that he has taken with him well here is four, Jeff Curran, Urijah Faber (2x), Leonard Garcia, Yves Edwards in there as well.. Thats pretty impressive…
But has had some issues with smaller (tall and lean) and quicker guys in the past.. Imanari subbed him, Joe Lauzon subbed him, Genki Sudo has subbed him, Hermes Franca has subbed him, all smaller than Brown and well quicker…
Jose Aldo who is 15~1~0 is on a 8 fight win streak since his lone loss and the last five of his wins have been by (t)ko or just basically KTFO he has 3 wins in his career by sub and has only gone to decision twice..
So as we can see I do doubt this fight is going to the distance
this is gonna be a super sick fight with someone guaranteed to get ko’d, like fr702 said, this fight will for sure not go to decision, Aldo has a sick aerenal of strikes but Brown has hardcore ko power, discipline and a champions heart, should be canidate for fight of the year WEC style.
great stats FR,
Yeah this one is going to be another t/ko or sub for one of these guys. ALdo should be a little carefull and not try to do some crazy $hitagainst brown cuz brown isn’t swanson. But hey, aldo’s game lke you said has been pretty effective. I don’t care who wins. I just know this will be a war dude.
This fight is going to be so sick. Aldo is a f****** animal. He is by far the faster fighter. He has some pretty nice footwork as well. But I think Brown will out muscle him to a submission victory.
Now now, i know what your thinking, Brown has had trouble with smaller, faster fighters in the past. That was before Brown was a beast of a champion. He has proven to be a well rounded fighter, and he has shown that he has lots of heart. I think he will out work Aldo in this one. He’s too strong.
Brown via Sub(3rd round)
I think that if aldo wins it will be in the first minute. If he doesnt than brown wins
