  • Jorge GurgelA lightweight matchup between UFC veteran Jorge Gurgel and undefeated prospect Billy Evangelista will headline a November 6 “Strikeforce Challengers” event, which airs live on Showtime from the Save Mart Center in Fresno, California.
  • Strikeforce has officially released heavyweight Paul Buentello, who is now expected to return to the UFC after having his contract acquired by the promotion in its August deal with Affliction.
  • Two-time U.S. Olympic wrestler Daniel Cormier has been added to the card for Strikeforce’s September 25 Challengers event, with an opponent expected to be announced soon.
  • Strikeforce recently signed lightweight prospect Brian Travers to a five-fight deal, and has also signed TUF 8 cast member Antwain Britt to a multi-fight contract.
  • Robbie Lawler’s agent, Monte Cox, is pushing for Lawler to fight Matt Lindland in his next fight, not Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza as previously expected.
  • A previously-reported interim middleweight title fight between Jake Shields and Jason “Mayhem” Miller that was expected to take place in October on the same card as Fedor Emelianenko vs. Brett Rogers has yet to be finalized, with Shields saying that Miller won’t sign on for the fight and that it could take place in December instead.

  • Evangelista hopefully will make it to the UFC one of these days. I saw his first fight back at the WEC before it was purchased by the UFC. He came out and destroyed the guy and he was a same day repalcement. The kid is a beast and has a bright future ahead of him.

  • Jaymz says:

It would be better if they had Lawler fight Lindland, then they could set up Shields vs Souza.

Evangelista should win this figh. Don’t get me wrong Gurgel has a ton of talent I just don’t think he has the desire to be a true winner imo. But u never know he could prove wrong he does have skills.

As for the headhunter I hope he gets stomped in his return the ufc if he does comeback.

    • Dont like King Paul too much do we? Why the hate? Can’t fault the guy for making more money and getting back into the most recognizable MMA promotion in the world. Even if he never gets a title shot fighting in the UFC raises his name recognition and opens up way more doors for him than Strikeforce ever could.

      • love4thedead says:

Not hating on Paul the guy has excellent striking. He looked good in his early days in the ufc. Knocking out guys like Eilers fairly easily but I think his time for ufc is over.

But again he could prove wrong and I will end up looking like an ahole

  • JENKINS! says:

Gurgel has the potential to be an amazing fighter, as does Evangelista. I think Gurgel has a better set of skills, but in alot of his fights he doesnt use his skills to his full capability. If he shows up as the BJJ badass he is, then he could very well win this fight. If he tries to stand and bang with Evangelista, he will lose via KO or by decision IMO.

I DONT WANT TO SEE FREAKIN PAUL BUENTELLO IN THE UFC!!!!!

he looks like a skinnier cooler tim sylvia….

GET NICK DIAZ AND JAKE SHIELDS DANA!!!! PLEASE!!!!

  • love4thedead says:

Didn’t mean to post that twice sorry

  • fr702 says:

Paul, returning to the UFC should be interesting imo

the signing of Tavares and Britt is rather good for StrikeForce

Its going to be nice to have another event here @ the SaveMart Center and perhaps if StrikeForce has a end of the year show i will go to that one in San Jose too, good stuff Hope that they put on a really good card come the 6th…

Robbie not want to fight Jacare makes sense, LindLand is a perfect choice for him… I actually think LinLand would want to prove that he could standup for a minute and Robbie would look for the KO

    • Justin says:

Yeah, I think Jacare would sub Robbie without much of a fight before hand. Definitely think Lindland would be looking to prove he can take a punch, and end up proving he can’t if he fought Robbie.

      • love4thedead says:

Yeah I agree if Linland tries to stand with Lawlor he gets ko’d quick but if he get Robbie down and stay on top Lindland will get the w.

  • jcohl says:

Really looking forward to seeing how Daniel Cormier transitions into Strikeforce, and who he draws as his first opponent…
