After it was reported yesterday that Gegard Mousasi was forced to pull out of his upcoming “Super Hulk Tournament” bout with Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou, there was some discussion as to who might fill his place. In a move that will likely surprise almost no one, Dream officials have decided to bring Bob Sapp back into the tournament as Mousasi’s replacement, according to a report from MMAWeekly.

Sapp is being brought back into the tournament after a submission loss to Ikuhisa Minowa, in the first round of the tournament. He as last in action against Bobby Lashley in June, where he suffered defeat via submission due to strikes.

Sokoudjou comes into the bout off of his victory over Jan Nortje in the opening round of the tournament. Prior to competing in the Super Hulk tournament Sokoudjou had suffered back to back defeats at the hands of Luiz Cane, and Renato Sobral.

The current card for DREAM 11 features:

  • Joachim Hansen (c) vs. Shinya Aoki

  • dbiz says:

Yeah, this isn’t a surprise. I’m just sorry Mousasi hurt his shoulder patting Fedor on the back for such a hard-fought victory in their exhibition.

    • flatlandtom says:

to bad that was never confirmed

      • dbiz says:

What was never confirmed? He didn’t hurt his shoulder? He didn’t hurt in in the exhibition? You have no sense of humor and can’t take a joke? He didn’t hurt it patting Fedor on the back for a well-earned victory? You’re desperate to jump on me anytime I mention Fedor? There was an exhibition between him and Fedor?

        Which was never confirmed?

      • flatlandtom says:

that He hurt it in the exhibition

      • jcohl says:

        Potshotting me is bad enough.
Potshotting dbiz is an entirely different sort of mistake, just so you’re aware…
        ;)

      • Justin says:

So, I was just noticing… you only show up when Fedor is mentioned… maybe you should try adding to the conversation on some other topics… just sayin…

p.s. If I missed some comments on another topic, my apologies, and I off a full retraction. Been busy times for me lately and haven’t been able to keep up with all the comments.

    • flatlandtom says:

fedor gets potshotted the most thats why. jchol im not scared of you or dbiz’s comebacks, because when it come to talking fedor ill wreck you anyday, and why is that? because i only speak the facts… Believe me ive been holding back on the anderson silva bashing thats going on too, nothing is ever good enough if fedor went to the ufc and beat every hw he would still suck. but justin ill try and not read anymore comments on fedor, because the one thing i hate more than fedor bashing is censorship.

      • Justin says:

Who said anything about censorship? I just suggested that you become more diverse in your commentary. Censorship is asking you to say less, I’m actually asking you to say more.

      • jcohl says:

I think both myself and dbiz have been fairly light-handed in dealing with stuff like this, and will at least for myself remain so, out of respect for Kris and the mods, and the frenZied community, although I have to admit that someone claiming to “wreck” me, and I guess maybe dbiz if that was the intent, is sort of laughable, but hey, whatever, as long as we’re all having fun…
        ;)

  • fr702 says:

Bob Sapp entertains me and I’m ok with that, well when he fights K~1 and in Japan… Not so much against Lashley…. Seems like a nice guy too, good to see him back in the tourney, hopefully he will try to win this time….. Bringing him back made the most sense out of any option FEG might have considered, he is a HUGE draw in Japan, so this should help with the ratings!

    • huertarogerhuerta says:

couldve brought canseco back in or even better get shaq deisel although i think cleveland wont let him do it. but i still say next season of shaq vs: super hulk tourny.

      • Shaq is too smart to get involved in this one. Minowa might be small but he is the giant killer and Shaq would get embarassed. He has a rep to watch out for, he cant be getting heel hooked in 37 seconds.

  • chrisl says:

Sapp kinda makes more sense in the Super Hulk tournament anyways

  • i agree with fr702, Sapp always makes me wanna watch, he a super huge dude and he just looks funny beating on smaller dudes, Thierry better be on his game or else he’s gonna get “Sapped” :)

    • jcohl says:

Normally I’m not a supporter of these mutant class sort of throwdowns, but Bob Sapp is like a guilty pleasure. The guy is almost always entertaining, and I get the impression that he just doesn’t take the whole thing so seriously. He just seems to have fun with it and let it all hang out, which is refreshing in a way these days…

  • Markus J says:

Sapp will get KO’d first round once he gases after his initial fury.

    So predictable.

    • Justin says:

Interesting, “once he gases after his initial fury” has been said about Sokoudjou as well. Maybe this will be the battle of “who gasses last.” Or maybe Sokoudjou will actually use some of his Judo skills and take this one to the ground, where he has a much better chance of winning.

  • BuzzBradski says:

It’s like subbing The Incredible Hulk in for Batman. But I still want to watch…

  • GarRule says:

I already mentioned this on another post…but I just rented Big Stan…a definate MUST SEE for you Sapp lovers!

  • JENKINS! says:

Interesting replacement, but not very suprising. I think Sokoudjou will win this one, however, he needs to come into this fight with a better gameplan than just stand and bang for the first few minutes. And he also shouldnt underestimate Sapp, seeing how he is literally the size of the hulk. Hahaha.

  • Yarby says:

    “He brokeded my nose!”

Let’s just get to the finals. Soko wins by nose strikes for a submission.
