UFC 184: Chris Weidman-Vitor Belfort Scrap Delayed Once Again

Perhaps the MMA gods don’t want Chris Weidman to fight Vitor Belfort after all…

Yes, if you haven’t heard yet, the UFC has announced that the middleweight champ has been forced to pull out of the February 28th scrap due to a rib injury. As a result, the bantamweight bout between champion Ronda Rousey and Cat Zingano will be the event’s new headliner.

So, if you’ve really been looking forward to this fight, and chances are you have been, this is very unfortunate news. Weidman and Belfort were also booked to fight at UFC 181 last month, but the champ injured his hand and the fight was postponed again…

If you recall, the two were originally supposed to fight at UFC 173 last February, but after the Nevada Commission banned testosterone-replacement-therapy, Belfort, a now former TRT user, pulled out of the bout.

Weidman went on to fight Lyoto Machida at UFC 175 last July, and earned a unanimous decision victory. Belfort, meanwhile, hasn’t fought since November, 2013, when he stopped Dan Henderson.

The February 28th, UFC 184 card will go down at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.
