Due to McGregor’s one sided win over Dennis Siver at UFC Fight Night 59, “Notorious” has locked up a title fight with the champ Aldo, who he’s argued won’t pose much of a threat. Yes, despite the fact Aldo is widely considered to be the greatest featherweight ever, and one of the planet’s best pound-for-pound fighters, McGregor hasn’t gone out of his way to credit the Brazilian star. As a result, the rising featherweight isn’t exactly the most popular fighter in Brazil.
“Jose Aldo already said what we needed to hear,” Silva relayed. “We have the king, the prince and the joker. Enough said. I think (McGregor) is a cool guy, but Jose Aldo is way cooler than him. I’m Jose Aldo’s brother, I’m with Jose Aldo until I die. Beat him up a lot, Jose Aldo. Please, beat him up a lot.”
How about that for a noteworthy statement huh? Now, the debate is still raging on as to whether McGregor has what it takes to end Aldo’s storied reign, but according to Silva, there’s no question who will win the upcoming scrap.
“You can’t compare,” said Silva. “He doesn’t have a chance against Jose Aldo. How would he do this? Have you seen Aldo’s last fight? Do you think this kid will handle what that other kid (Mendes) handled against Aldo? Never..”
Regardless of whether you believe McGregor deserves a title shot already or not, there’s no doubt the UFC has set up this fight masterfully. Aldo-McGregor doesn’t even have a date yet and there’s already a ton of buzz tied to the fight. Based off what Dana White said following UFC FN 59, it looks like the promotion is hoping to book it for May in Las Vegas.
