Nogueira, Couture, Mardquardt, and Rosholt Earn UFC 102 Fight Night Bonuses
Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Randy Couture, Nate Marquardt, and Jake Rosholt each earned $60,000 “fight night” bonuses at Saturday’s UFC 102 event at the Rose Garden Arena in Portland, Oregon, UFC President Dana White announced at the post-fight press conference.
UFC 102 headliners and heavyweight legends, Nogueira and Couture were awarded “Fight of the Night” honors for their three-round war that capped off the pay-per-view event.
Marquardt beat out Thiago Silva’s 95-second KO of Keith Jardine and Todd Duffee’s record-setting 7-second knockout of Tim Hague to win “Knockout of the Night” for UFC 102, as he scored a one-punch KO of fellow middleweight contender Demian Maia in just 21-seconds.
“Submission of the Night” went to Jake Rosholt, who earned his first UFC win with a third-round arm-triangle submission of Chris Leben that put Leben out cold.
UFC 102 fell short of a sellout, but still drew an impressive 16,088 attendees for a $1.92 million live gate.

Great night IMO
-Man, Couture vs Nog was exactly the fight i said it was going to be. I felt that neither guy would finish the fight in the first and that’s why i knew it would be a war. Couture is fu*king amazing man, he’s a true heart of hearts fighter and he honestly left me speechless. The guy took a $hit load of punoshment and survived those ugly chokes from Nogueira. That fight justifies everything that gets hyped ip about the man IMO. As for Nog, he looked a lot better this fight than his las fight but i feel that if he were to face a younger guy like Velasquez, Dos Santos or even the new fastest ko in UFC history record holder “Ivan Drago look alike”, i feel that Nog would get destroyed because truth be told that if could not finish a 46 year old Couture than the younger more durable guys will give him problems the way Mir did(i know Nog was sick coming in to that fight and i’m not taking anything away from Couture). Aweseome fight though that displayed the heart and courage of both fighters.
-I was not all that shocked to see Demian Maia go down like that because when the fight started i was like WTF? Why aren’t you shooting in for the takedown? I felt that his striking looked a bit sloppy, but Marquardt timed it just right and he’s a helluva class act for not giving Maia any unnessecary punches, Marqurat showed how cool is for that because another guy would have got in those extra cheap shots in. I hope Maia can take this fight and learn from it becaue even though i think the guy can make anyone tap, if Nate got him the way he did, imagine what Silva would do to him… I think Marquradt should fight Hendo next so that we have a clear number one contender fighting SIlva next for the title but i als wouldn’t mind seeing either guy challenge next. Did you see how Silva got kinda mad when Marquart called him out? Must of struk a nerve and pi$$ed Silva off, be careful Marquradt, you might have just re-motivated the Spider to put another hurt’n on you. Congrats to Nate though, this was by no means an easy fight for the guy.
-I’m classier than to just come in here and celebrate the fact that i told all my friends here at Frenzy that Jardine would lose…(Onlytrue1,carls,petterson etc..) I honestly felt before the fight that if Thiago would stand-up with Keith he would lose being that Keith is faster than he is, but i also felt that if Thiago would land a clean shot he would be able to drop Jardine being that he has taken a few beatdowns recently(Alexander,Wanderlei and Rampage dropped him a few times). I’m happy for Thiago because this proves that he is not overrated and maybe Jardine is just like i said.., but non the less i feel bad for Jardine because whether i like him or not(i clearly DO NOT), the guy is a gamer and has never ducked anyone and has had only tough fights in the octagon so props to him, hope he can work on his overall game a little and humble himself and not underestimate guys like Thiago SIlva again. I see Jardine-Forrest 2, what do you guys think? Congrats to Thiago should get a top five guy next OR Thiago-Vera maybe???
-Did you guys see how Lavigne super messed up AGAIN in the Rosholt-Leben fight???? I mean Leben clearly tapped and Lavigne didn’t do $hit, NO, he waited till Leben went out which looked disturbing kinda. I knew Rosholt was a good fighter and told my brother before the fight that i wouldn’t be surprised if Rosholt won because i’ve seen all of his pro MMA fights and seen his WEC fights soooo i knew it was a tough challenge for Leben who hasn’t really evolved his game and cam in a little rusty from the long layoff.
-Good fights overall
have a good one my friends catch you all on the early am tomorrow, your Frenzy neighborhood MK4, Onlytrue i honered our previous bet now i will come back with my usual Avatar….later.
Lavigne was not the ref in the Rosholt-Lebin fight… it was some younger shaved head guy, not the old and balding lavigne
jiujitsuMAN,
dude watch the fight again, it was Lavigne who was the ref in that fight
I agree, well said
First of all like you said….
THANK YOU MARQUARDT for showing class. Something only a few guys left do.
IMO Big Nog would show all these “younger”, faster guys up. IMO he would do just like he did in the past. Let them come in, throw him around a lil, and wait for them to tire or make a mistake. There cant be more than 1 or 2 other guys that couldve gotten out of those submissions like randy.
Just imagine… Griffin v Jardine II…..on the UNDERCARD
Man it liked maia was on the X games or some **** when he went flying thru the air like that. Hopefully gets his jaw back on straight and come back strong.
GREAT GREAT GREAT Card… Thank you UFC
I would really like to see Nate and Hendo fight before a title shot against Anderson…that would be a great matchup..
You already posted this once.
and WTF why didnt Duffee get a bonus? setting a record isnt worth anything?
i can’t believe that it didn’t earn knockout of the night bonus… 7 seconds, incredible, welcome to the ufc duffee
Who says he didn’t? It just wasn’t KOoTN.
Dbiz is right on here, typically Dana gives you get a pre-determined bonus for every KO or Sub. Dana goes over that in pre-fight meeting with everyone that’s fighting.
I guess they felt nate’s kO over the seemingly unbeatable maia was more impressive. And i somewhat agree.
Yea, Nates was a better KO. Duffee’s KO was nice considering how short the fight was, but Hague had no business being in the Octagon last night. He went down from a misplaced jab for crying out loud. Pathetic!
I read that and I thought we were talking about Kimbo again…
Not sure if you’d call it a misplaced jab(that hit him square, which you could argue isn’t the purpose of a jab haha). It was however a stepping jab that Hague quite literally walked into.
Will say though I though Nate’s KO was better technique wise. He felt Maia out more, rather than coming straight in. After a few head kicks it was obvious Maia was dropping his hands, Marquardt capitalized perfectly on that. Have to give him KO of the night IMO.
Marquardt got ko of the night over “Ivan Drago” from Rocky 4 look alike because that fight was super important and had the most at stake, and considering that it was Demian Maia who has never lost, it makes sense.
Don’t try to make sense Marvel!
Glad as always to see the bonus money spread around.
The Duffee KO had everyone in my section talking about KOotN, until Marquardt upstaged him. A guy with a voice like Black Bolt [thats for my boy mk4] who was sitting a row in front of me bellowed, “Marquardt, you magnificent motherfu<ker, you just stole Maia's future and Duffee's bonus!", which got a huge laugh from the crowd. It also helped that Marquardt was roughly looking in our direction at the time.
Neither of which is 100% accurate, but his point was well made…
Hahaha thats some funny stuff.
I think Marquardt had the more impressive KO, but Duffee did get the record so idk who i would give KOTN to. Even though Duffee got the record, his KO wasnt nearly as wicked as Nate’s was. Maia took a punch from hell straight to the jaw.
i feel bad for maia….wandy came running in and took maia in his arms like he was his mother after nate floored him…….i loved andersons face after nate ko’d maia…..anderson just kinda shrugged and smiled….but we all know he was like that shot would have never hit me
even better was how Nate was kinda backing off his calling out of Anderson in the cage during the post-fight interviews.
ANY IDEAS WHAT HAPPENED TO “SHORT FUSE” ACL? MCL? WHY DID HE EVER TRY TO THROW A KICK ON THAT LEG. THAT WAS STUPID. BUT MAN I CAN’T BELIEVE HE CAME BACK OUT FOR THE 2ND ROUND…
DO YOU THINK HE’LL BE CUT?
well if you saw the slow motion replay it appears his knee cap may have dislocated. However, the mechanism when he first hurt it on the take down was a hyperextension of the knee. Typically that means ACL and PCL are the two ligaments to look out to be injured in that kind of injury. However being as the knee is such a large joint damage could’ve been sustained to any part since there were two different injuries(even though the first most likely influenced the second).
I doubt he’ll be cut for this. They were putting on a good fight before then and so I think they may give him one more shot.
* CORRECTION *
WHY DID HE EVEN TRY TO THROW A KICK ON THAT LEG
hopefully the UFC can clean up the Middle weight division a bit more like giving Marquardt a chance to fight for Number 1 contender spot with Henderson, and if Belfort beats Franklin and moves down give him Okami.
