Former UFC Heavyweight Champion Kevin Randleman was arrested this week in Goodsprings, Nevada, a suburb of Las Vegas, on charges of DUI, Speeding, Driving Without a Valid License, Intimidating a Public Officer, and Malicious Destruction of Public Property as well as other charges according to a report from MMAWeekly.
Randleman, who primarily fought in the UFC and PRIDE in his MMA career, had a successful run in the UFC from 1999 to 2002. After opening with a win over Maurice Smith Randleman received a shot at the vacant heavyweight title against Bas Rutten. Rutten won the fight by split decision but then retired vacating the title yet again. The second time was the charm as Randleman defeated Pete Williams by unanimous decision to claim the heavyweight crown. Randleman successfully defended the title against Pedro Rizzo but lost it to Randy Couture after he returned to the UFC. After losing the title he moved down to the light heavyweight division with mixed success losing to Chuck Liddell and defeated Renato Sobral before leaving the UFC.
After leaving the UFC Randleman went to PRIDE winning several fights early in the organization but since 2003 Randleman has won just 2 fights compared to 7 losses in the same time frame.
The charges are not the only problems Randleman has faced. After losing to Mauricio Rua in October of 2006 Randleman submitted a fake urine sample to the Nevada State Athletic Commission. As a result Randleman was suspended until October of 2007 after which Randleman can resume fighting.
