UFC Officially Announces Signing, Return of Wanderlei Silva
The UFC has officially announced the signing of former PRIDE Champion Wanderlei Silva. The deal brings another premiere light heavyweight fighter to the UFC but this one is extra special as Silva has been the subject of rampant rumors over the past months and years and signing brings a sense of closure with his actual signing in the books but cranks up the anticipation of his UFC return, which is slated for December.
The 31-year-old is rumored to be facing Chuck Liddell on the December 29th UFC 79 card though the UFC has yet to confirm the event or the fight.
Dana White discusses the situation in the official announcement of the signing:
“As crazy as this sounds, this is the pinnacle of my seven year career in this company. I’m so excited to have this guy under contract. He grabbed my arm and looked me in the eyes like one of his pre-fight staredowns and he said ‘I’m gonna fight so good for you, you’re gonna see the best fights ever from Wanderlei Silva.’”

i think they'll go the crocop route with him; start him off with a chump (maybe rashad evans?) and then bring him into the real world with about the 3rd fight. unfortunately, crocop lost his 2nd "chump" fight… i guess gonzaga wasn't really a chump after all…

Lets hope Wanderlei Silva lives up to all the hype, the fight we all want to see is Wanderlei Silva v Chuck Liddell but lets face it we want both of these guys at the top of there game not two fighters that are on the decline.
I know I hope he doesn't flop in the UFC. I sincerely doubt he will but for everything that has been said publicly he has to live up to it. I think a matchup between Silva and Liddell is still a matchup of two top guys. The winner would probably be likely to get a title shot in the spring plus it's a great match to have below Matt vs. Matt.
I agree with you Kris. I think it would be a great way to finish the year with a Liddell vs. Silva match.
Ya I think this is great for the ufc and Maybe so the will go the cro cop way with him but along with the fight with liddell every body is yelling for. I would like to see the rematch of silva and Tito Ortiz… but ya good way to end the year liddell vs silva
