BJ Penn vs. Diego Sanchez To Headline UFC 105
A lightweight championship bout between 155-pound title-holder BJ Penn and challenger Diego Sanchez is set to headline UFC 105 on November 14 in Manchester, England, according to Inside Fights, citing a source within the UFC.
Penn (14-5-1) successfully defended the lightweight belt earlier this month at UFC 101, defeating Kenny Florian by fourth-round submission for his fourth win in last five fights. Prior to a January loss to Georges St-Pierre at welterweight, “The Prodigy” won consecutive lightweight bouts over Jens Pulver, Joe Stevenson, and Sean Sherk.
Following his win over Florian, Penn announced that he’d like to return to the Octagon quickly to take on Sanchez and it appears he’ll get his wish by headlining UFC 105, which is expected to air for free on tape-delay on Spike TV.
Sanchez (23-2), a former welterweight contender with wins over the likes of Nick Diaz, Joe Riggs, and Karo Parisyan, made his anticipated lightweight debut in February with a unanimous decision over Joe Stevenson. In his most-recent fight, “Nightmare” topped Clay Guida by split decision in June in a victory that has apparently earned him a shot at the 155-pound belt.

really looking forward to this fight
This is going to be da AWESOME, and I can’t wait for it other rumors are that this will be for free and Bisping v Kang, Hardy v Stun Gun I can’t wait to see these fights good stuff
Awesome news, this should be a sick card if all the rumored fights take place.
I think this will be good for Penn because it won’t allow him to get out of shape rather than keep him focussed. i still think that Sanchez has a better shot at beating Penn that people give him. He’s a better and tougher fighter than Ken-flo but we’ll have to wait and see.
Good headliner though, hope it’s free
Maybe Sanchez is better and tougher than Florian. Unfortunately for him,, he has to be better and tougher than BJ Penn.
very true haha
This fight should be way BETTER than Penn vs Florian.
Will Diego run towards Penn at 105mph?!?
Although he won’t get a title shot any time soon, I would love to see Guida versus Penn also.
If Diego wins, I could see Guida vs. Penn. That would be cool.
likewise very excited for this fight.. but i dont see it going any way but for penn. diego wont be able to knock him out, and when it goes to the ground penn will score another submission. i really hope that BJ sticks to his word and stays with the same training camp here in cali, that way he will be nearly unbeatable at 155.
and then a florian/sanchez rematch would be awesome seeing as florians level of fighting has increased drastically since their first bout.
great news should be a good fight,be goin down to manchester for this one.penn will have to much for diego,2nd round sub.
I like this fight……but Diego Sanchez doesn’t deserve the next title fight! Frankie Edgar does! The guy has lost once in the octagon! This is ridiculous! Edgar vs. Florian needs to happen then.
there have been quite a few championship fights lately circulate where there were abviously better contenders, or there should have been another fight, but were made from a business standpoint. its starting to make me question some of the decision making. penn/sanchez would make more $ then penn/edgar. watch, next we will see trigg vs. gsp.. (please note the last sentance was purely sarcasm)
Gray Maynard has never lost in the octagon or ever soo ya (it was ruled a NC
^^^^
thats for Gun
Please, the Maynard-ians don’t need any help preaching their particular gospel…
BUT, Maynard might be the most boring fighter to fight in the UFC. That should get him a title shot as Prelims Queen.
If the “super-hyped crazy intense” Diego that fought “Baby Lou Ferrigno” look alike Guida shows up it has fight of the year potential…BJ is almost unbeatable at 155…
this card is looking great i hope diego wins this.
Get to see a stare down like he wants to murder Penn. Penn of course wont back down. I can see these two getting on each others nerves before the fight. Exciting fight!!!!!!
Diego has a punchers chance, I’ve been following him and his quest for the title since his first steps into the octagon via Fight Night Live. Always thought he would definitely make it to a title shot and hoping he would get a belt. Too bad we have the Prodigy there making this task all but impossible. Avoid the takedown and piece him up with well timed combos is his only small hope for a win imo.
After beating Sanchez, and I guess Maynard next because his damned supporters just won’t pipe down about the man’s greatness, both real and imagined,
might Penn not think about calling it a career?
He clearly has nothing to prove at 155, and if memory serves he did fairly well at 170, and took Lyoto Machida to a decision at 185.
Penn has done as much as any man in this sport, and after a couple more wins over Sanchez and Maynard I think he should sell his gloves oon eBay and spend his time in Hilo with his family and enjoy the fruits of his labors…
I agree with you on both the maynard talk having to stop, and soon please!! and that after he fights diego and maynard that he should just retire. For some reason he wants to fight GSP again but that fight isn’t going to happen.
I’m excited for all these fights. What a great card so far dude! I like both hardy and kim so i can’t choose a winner. Hope kang comes out on top dude!
if penn wants to retire as a true dominant champion, he would have to fight a couple more years and defend four or five times imho…thats should get everybody around here nice and jazzed up…the end
I’M FROM NEW MEXICO AND I DON’T KNOW WHO I HATE MORE… I THINK I’LL BE ROOTING FOR DIEGO ONLY CUZ I LOVE SEEING BJ LOSE
This is one of them ‘can’t wait’ fights.Might end up in the running for fight of the year. And free to boot.Very awesome.
hope its free , usually events from uk are free. **** bisping i hope kang kills him. diego has a very good shot at beating bj imo but i hope diegos been working bjj off of his back cuz thats his only weak spot and thats bj penn shine spot but all in all i think sanchez will win. great match up becuase both have good stand up with ko power and both good submissions. my pick is diego 4th rnd tko.
now thats what i’m talking about. defo going to watch this in manchester just down the road from me buzzing!
BJ v diego + Bisping v kang= $FREE.99
I wouldnt pay to watch it
Ya right, UFC 105 is looking good no matter if it is free or PPV
yea defintly agree there. we get see bisping and bj lose. why wouldnt u pay for that.
“We get to see BJ lose”…
Thats funny sh!t right there…
were going to have a new lightweight champion..cause diego is going to wipe his ass with penn
