Recently it was reported that a group of fighters are set to launch a multi-million dollar lawsuit against the Ultimate Fighting Championship, and according to the latest reports, a press conference is scheduled for Tuesday, which will formally announce it.
This past weekend, Bloody Elbow.com reported that sources had informed the outlet that former and current UFC fighters are preparing to sue the promotion, based on the accusation that it has violated antitrust laws. The suit will reportedly accuse the UFC of using its extensive, market share to deliberately hinder the free market, and in turn, reduce the income and purses fighters have collected.
According to a follow up report from MMA Junkie.com, Tuesday’s press conference will take place on Tuesday, at the Hyatt Place in San Jose, beginning at 1:00 PM/PT.
The suit’s details and plaintiffs will be announced at that time.
The Federal Trade Commission investigated claims that the UFC constituted a monopoly in 2011, but elected not to proceed with any further action.
