It looks as though Josh Koscheck won’t be facing the surging Neil Magny next after all, but instead, struggling welterweight contender, Jake Ellenberger.
Koscheck will close out 2014 without fighting, as the 37 year-old hasn’t fought since last November, when he was taken out by Tyron Woodley. The former #1 contender has lost three in a row, and hasn’t won since 2012, when he scored a split decision win over Mike Pierce. It’s been a remarkable slide for Koscheck, who you remember, worked his way into not one, but two title fights with Georges St. Pierre.
Ellenberger has also dropped three straight, and most recently, he was tapped out by Kelvin Gastelum at UFC 180. Prior to the defeats, Ellenberger had gone 8-2 in his previous 10 fights.
So, that’s an interesting match-up between two powerful wrestlers, who are in a must win situation.
UFC 184 will be hosted by the Staples Center in Los Angeles, and will feature middleweight champ Chris Weidman take on Vitor Belfort.
