UFC Fight Club members can purchase tickets beginning on Thursday, August 27, while UFC newsletter subscribers can buy tickets starting on Friday, August 28.

The pay-per-view event is headlined by a light heavyweight championship matchup, as title-holder Lyoto Machida squares off against Marurio “Shogun” Rua in the evening’s main event.
The rumored fight card for the event currently includes:
- Lyoto Machida (c) vs. Mauricio “Shogun” Rua
UFC Light Heavyweight Championship - Shane Carwin vs. Cain Velasquez
- Yushin Okami vs. Chael Sonnen
- Ryan Bader vs. Eric Schafer
- Joe Stevenson vs. Spencer Fisher
- Antoni Hardonk vs. Pat Barry
- Razak Al-Hassan vs. Kyle Kingsbury
- Anthony Johnson vs. Yoshiyuki Yoshida
- Jorge Rivera vs. Rob Kimmons
For the latest UFC 104 rumors check out the MMAFrenzy.com UFC rumors section.

Anthony Johnson vs. Yoshiyuki Yoshida should be saved for a fight night or TUF finale. I really want to see that fight, though we may see it right after Carwin-Velasquez before the live main event.
Many people consider Lyoto Machida to be “unbeatable” at the moment. Why?…I honestly don;t know why. Lyoto Machida is an extremely talented fighter with a style all his own. He’s one of the smartest MMA fighters to ever compete at 205. His last two wins were very impressive in the fact that he destroyed two top undefeated contenders winning the UFC title along the way. However, i am not completely sold on “The Machida Era Has Begun” thing. Although i have a great amount of respect and admiration for The Dragon, the guy has still yet to defend his title, so i’m going to save judgement until he’s defended his title at least once. The reason why i am not a big believer that he will be the champ for a while is quite simple. Machida although undefeated has yet to face real elite competition at 205 IMO, when he beat Tito, it wasn’t exactly the most convincing win AND he showed a few things in that fight i think, but correct me if i’m wrong…i feel that Tito was able to get him in a triangle because Machida showed a lack of respect for Tito’s ground game which goes to show that he can underestimate guys and get careless.
Shogun Rua, the reason i think that most people are counting him out is because their judging him based on his last two fights rather than looking at the overall picture. Yes if i was not familiar with Shogun and just saw his last two fights i too would be unimpressed. But people forget that Shougun was considered the best 205 fighter in the planet at one time for a reason. When he fought Coleman he had just had surgery and was coming off a very long layoff, but now that he is healed up he’ll remind people why he was once considered the best 205 fighter in the world. Shogun is a guy who has ko power in both hands, has very wuick and effective leg kicks with some sick Muay Thai and a solid clinch with decent unorthodox sub skills. Machida has not faced a guy as well rounded as Shogun yet. Shogun has fought some of the best and beaten some of the best, he has just as much or more experience than Machida in not only fighting in big fights but fighting elite fighters in big fights and the guy is only 27 years old. Bruce Lee once said that the most dangerous opponent you could have is an opponent who is determined and has a Kill or be killed attitude. Now that Shogun has been emberassed by Forrest and criticized on his fight with Coleman, i’m sure he is determined and hungry to show everyone who he really is in the octagon. Shogun will pose numerous problems for Machida that Machida may or may not be ready for.
Lyoto Machida will for sure be the toughest fight ever for Shogun, but Shogun will be the toughest fight ever for Machida also. They both have their own style of fighting that will be knew for both fighters. This fight is closer than people think and if Shogun manages to win, it shouldn’t be considered and upset, trust me if Shogun from Pride shows up, Machida won’t take him out like he did Rashad Evans.
I agree Marvel!
and he just Knocked out Chuck in th 1st!
and i think his “style” is gunna be figured out soon!
he just backs up or throughs jabs till they let an opening up?
Nice mk4.
I completely agree. Which is why im picking shogun to win. I think he is going to show up very determined and focused. It will be one hell of a fight. And Machida is an amazing fighter, like ridiculous good. But i think its Shoguns time to shine, once again. If he does indeed show up in his “PRIDE form” then he better not be taken lightly by Machida.
good read marvelknight, i agree
i disagree, everyone is saying shogun will give lyoto problems just like everyone said forrest would give anderson problems …you guys just need to give up…lyoto by tko rnd 2
shogun offers nothing that lyoto hasnt already faced! everyon needs to realize this!
Yah i’m with you gun, I don’t see him offering Lyoto any more problems then a Thiago Silva. Not saying shogun isn’t a better all around fighter, just notice the similar styles and skill. Let’s face it Shogun isn’t the same without soccer kicks and stomps, a majority of his big wins in pride came from finishing his opponents in the fashion. However I do give Shogun the nod in striking over thiago in head movement and elusivness, however you arn’t going to beat lyoto at his own game. I would also say his submissions are superior but will be neutralized against a bjj black belt in lyoto, shogun does have some slick take downs but lackluster submission game.
I give it to the second round before shogun gets frustrated, opens up and gets TKO’d late in the frame.
Agreed. the scariest thing about Lyoto is that he has gotten more and more impressive with each fight in the UFC. I see Shogun having a tough night.
No disrespect to anyone, but everyone seems to STILL be talking about the shogun that fought forrest griffin and not the real shogun who tore through pride and former champ “rampage”. Oh yeah, and not to mention he didn’t even break a sweat when he ended lidell. So i’m thinkin those of you talking like this might not have a clue of who shogun is.
Shogun is not good, but GREAT, EVERYWHERE. I’d say that being injured for that long and being out for as long as he was that he was thrown off his game and that he was hella rusty. IMHO, he’s not only back, but could possibly be better simply because he’s likely in the best shape he’s been in a long time. He’s not going to play into machida’s style, he’s not going to run away AND he’s not going to mind f*** himself and worry about what the illusive “dragon” will be doing, but rather worry about what he’s going to do to “the dragon”. These are all areas where his previous opponents(except) ortiz, failed. I’m not @ all taking away credit from machida, i’m just saying that shogun isn’t tito, rashad OR thiago. Machida fans might also consider that “sugar”,thiago and tito aren’t as well rounded as shogun, so maybe machida has looked great against competition that isn’t that great.
Keith Jardine: “the judges said that before the last 15 seconds of the rampage fight, they had me winning” (yeah f****n right dude) “i thought thiago silva was a true up and comer but after i saw the machida fight, i guess he was overrated”(”did he really say this $hit?”):) “i’m kind of ready to go out there and show off in this fight”…ok so I had to catch my breath after i heard jardine say this.
I’m going to just say that imo “The dean of mean” Keith Jardine is hella overrated and i honestly can’t get my head around why people consider him top ten, or why he gets all these fights against top opponents. How many times does this dude have to get ktfo or lose to a top opponent, before he’s in the prelims, or before he himself stops thinking he’s the shiit? Seriously dude. I hella can’t wait for this match. Thiago’s going to mount him and send him packing to hw or mw.
you left out the part where Keith said ‘but then Machida does the same thing to everyone, so you can’t really look at that fight’…..paraphrasing, but he did say it.
Keith is an entertaining fighter, but I’m not a fan, however if you’re going to go to such lengths to bash a guy, don’t fool with his quotes. Leave that to the media.
mw maybe. hw never lol

Count them, 4 of his pride wins are by stomps, 2 by dicision, 5 by punches (tko & ko), and 1 submission. So a majority of his hayday was not by something he is going to beat lyoto with. I can’t see him winning the striking game and his gnp basically consists of stomps and soccer kick, and he’s not a submission whiz. I like shogun as a fighter but i’m just trying to be realistic
mk4, i tried debating the whole shogun thing over in the forums and i must say i was roasted by the fellow frenzy. its under “if shogun beats machida it shouldnt be an upset” i like both fighters, but you have to step back and look at this fight. look at the way machida is elusive, and is hardly hit. look at how he has never lost a round in the ufc. not even the greatness or anderson can say they have done that. machida is disciplined enough to pick his shots and once he gets his opponents timing down its over. he is more precise than anderson when it comes to striking and he is hella quick.
i hope shogun makes a fight out of it, but if he comes in aggressive machida will sidestep and pick him apart. if he comes in cautious machida will attack and pick him apart like he did with rashad. i dont know as far as shogun is machida’s toughest test yet. machida faced bj and rich, not to mention tito who is underrated. i know the bj match was more of a sideshow, but still he beat bj.
machida still has to defend his title, but expect a long reign, and maybe he retires undefeated. i think rampage is worried about facing him as well, not to mention anderson wont; either because their buddies, or he is scared to death of machida. i think its more of the latter.
dude good stuff, although i have disagree that Machida will retire undefeated. Anderson Silva, it’s jsut a matter of time before someone takes my advice and beats him.
Machida is really good at what he does, but everyone can mistakes, Shogun has learned from his mistakes and is hungrier than ever. Machida has never lost so he can gather up that motivation that a fighter gets once he’s been at the his lowest point, Machida can’t relate to someone like Shogun who has been criticized and embarrassed and is now super pi$$ed and determined to have glory once more and is coming in ready to put a hurtn’ on Machida. I think this fight is more even than people will say, i know i may be proven wrong come fight night, but when a man is determined he’s determined and Shogun knows all the hype surrounding Machida is game to take him out one way or another.
coming off 2 wins in a row over washed up fighters… he might think hes hungry, but hes not hungry enough for a dragon. shogun is beat in every department. just admit it…. shogun seems more of a humble calm guy. not the type to flip a switch and go in beserk mode. something lyoto has. either you have it or you dont. shogun doesn’t end of story.. lyoto will be the first 205 to defend the belt since rampage..
Machida has been trained and determined to show Machida Karate is the best martial art in the world his whole life. I know Shogun is on the comeback trail and has lots of determination, but were talking about a man that would rather die than tap.
i wouldn’t take the “i’d rather die before i tap” attitude too seriously because there are plenty of fighters who have that same attitude but aren’t the best or don’t win all the time. A lot of fighters are put to sleep by rear naked chokes, guillotine’s, triangles and they too never tap. But that “never die” attitude isn’t what will win them the fight.
I actually like the Shogun/Machida fight. They match up well IMO.
But Machida is on a whole other level and I too believe he will be the 1st to defend his title since my dawg Rampage did it.
Shogun is capable of bringing the fight and giving him match up problems butttt Machida trains with silva soooooo I dont see shogun beating him.. Yeah Yeah Yeah shogun was the man in PRIDE, but that’s the problem it was the OLD GLORY DAYS OF PRIDE.
Those days are gone quit living in the past….Wandy and Cro-cop were beast in pride but LOOK at em now… Wandy has won 1 fight 1 fight in the UFC. 1….Cro cop has been cro cop and Kongonized and now resorted to poking people in the eye to win fights!!!
Jazzok MK4 please go to the Anderson silva wont relinquish his title section for me pleasssssee!!
