Edson Barboza scored a pivotal and impressive win over Bobby Green at UFC Fight Night 57, and the talented striker is now a top ten ranked, 155’er as a result.
As you probably know, Green had been on quite the run prior to Saturday’s fight, as the well rounded fighter had won eight in a row and had yet to lose in the UFC. Barboza’s renowned stand-up game proved to be too much for the “King”, however, and Barboza emerged with the unanimous decision win.
On Monday, the UFC released its latest rankings, and Barboza has jumped up five spots, yes, five spots, and is now ranked #6. Green, on the other hand, fell two positions and is now ranked #9.
If you’re wondering, the only lightweights that are ahead of Barboza at this juncture are Benson Henderson, Donald Cerrone, Rafael dos Anjos, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Gilbert Melendez, and the champ, Anthony Pettis.
The biggest winner on Saturday night, arguably, was Frankie Edgar, who submitted surging featherweight Cub Swanson in round five. Swanson was ranked #2 heading into the bout, but since Edgar took him out, the latter has moved into that spot. Swanson dropped two places and is now sitting at #4.
Ricardo Lamas, who is fresh off a first round, tap-out victory over Dennis Bermudez on November 15th, is #3.
