Kerr Tapped to Replace Frye; Mousasi vs. Emelianenko Exhibition Scheduled

Gegard Mousasi
On Saturday, MMAFrenzy.com reported that Don Fry had pulled out of his M-1 Breakthrough bout, which had been moved from Los Angeles to Kansas. A replacement has been found to face his scheduled opponent, Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal at the event, in another aging legend, Mark Kerr.

Kerr is a 40 year old fighter that started his career with a 12-0 run including appearances at UFC 14 and UFC 15. However since December of 2000 he has managed two victories in eleven outings, including a current four fight losing streak.

Lawal is a young fighter with a strong collegiate wrestling background that is thus far undefeated in his four fight MMA career. All of his bouts have previously taken place under World Victory Road banner, in the Sengoku events taking place in Japan. Lawal’s bout with Kerr will make his pro US debut.

Also added to the August 28th card is a special exhibition match between Fedor Emelianenko and Gegard Mousasi. The match is expected to be similar to the exhibition match held at an April M-1 Challenge/Deep event between Emelianenko and lightweight Shinya Aoki.

Though the event has been confirmed for Kansas City, there are still no reports of a confirmed venue.

    *sigh*

M~1 has established itself as the premier hot mess in the world. WTF, Mark Kerr? I thought it was bad enough that they were feeding King Mo an aging can in Frye, but now this? Puh-lease. Moussasi vs. Fedor grappling match. Awesome. We’ll finally get the answer to the question no one asked.

I would normally have a lengthy post about irresponsible matchmaking, and denigrating the sport with a bout like King Mo and Mark Kerr, who I honestly didn’t even know was still fighting, or the continued sideshow atmoshpere generated by spectacles like Fedor and LW Aoki or MW Mousasi, but all I have to point out is that this is an M-1 Global gig, and the rest sort of takes care of itself…

THIS JUST IN! Mousasi is backing out of the exhibition match with Fedor. Instead Fedor will be doing the ‘Blazing Challenge’ at a local BWW followed by him doing some hilarious Russian tongue twisters! If he completes both challenges he will, without a doubt, cement his legacy as the best p4p fighter in the world.

Actually guys , this exhibition is more interesting than you think . Mousasi is a legit guy even though most here in the US havent heard of him . At 23 and gaining mass he will mature into a true heavyweight by 26 . He may surprise us and get a few in on Fedor .

…… It would be funny if Mousasi just opened the match up with a stunning left -right combo and turned it into a full out brawl………..”F-U” to the rules style and dummied they guy hehehe

The problem in my eyes isnt the matchup…. I love watching Mousasi fight and he is a LHW, although I still regard him as a true MW. Mousasi has plenty of skills no doubt. Its the fact that its another exhibition. I gave the Aoki crap a pass, but back to back exhibitions against smaller men is really starting to get annoying.

  • Bzul3 says:

Anderson puts on a great performance on Saturday night, and Fedor along with M-1 promptly respond with this ground breaking news! The race for pound for pound legitamecy heats up! FEDOR is the man!

  • Avatar of bigchris2328 bigchris2328 says:

if fedor beats mousasi then there is no doubt he is the best fighter in the galaxy!!! how can he not be??? he beats everyone he faces. dont count the loss, because it wasnt a loss even though its on his record as a loss, its not a loss!

fedor continues to embarass himself, and its good to see that he turned down the UFC in order to “challenge himself” against “top competition”. no offense to mousasi or his fans, but come on… WTF!

  • Avatar of bigchris2328 bigchris2328 says:

there are a few videos on youtube of fedor-mousasi rolling. mousasi got worked in them so i highly doubt this exhibition will be different. mousasi is talented, but he should be training for fights not doing this sideshow crap.

    • Avatar of jcohl jcohl says:

M-1 Global is paying guys to appear in “this sideshow crap”, so what can we honestly expect?
At some point if you keep stepping in sh!t, you’re going to come home with stink on your boots…doing business with M-1 Global is no different. I have a lot of respect for Mousasi, and I think he has a lot of potential, which is why the UFC expressed interest, only to have M-1 Global or some other aspect of the Strikeforce Alliance intervene and misrepresent the terms of the offer.

Plus for a lot of fighters, especially younger fighter or guys that come out of the PRIDE mindset, Fedor’s name still carries a lot of weight. I’m sure the idea of signing with a “promotion” that he’s nomininally a part owner of is an appealing proposition, until of course you find out that you’re rolling with him in some submissions101.com video shoot instead of actually facing someone in your weightclass in a legit MMA fight…
