Kelvin Gastelum has been booked for another huge opportunity already, following his win over Jake Ellenberger at UFC 180, as the promotion’s announced he’ll battle top ranked, welterweight, Tyron Woodley next.
The fight will co-headline UFC 183, which will take place January 31st, in Las Vegas, and will see Anderson Silva throw down with Nick Diaz.
Gastelum continued to roll this past weekend, as the TUF 17 winner tapped out Ellenberger with a first round, rear-naked-choke. Gastelum has now won four straight, official fights with the UFC and has gone 10-0 to date as a pro. The rising welterweight is currently ranked #7 in the UFC’s 170 division.
Woodley (14-3) rebounded from his decision loss to Rory MacDonald in June, by scoring a quick, stoppage win over Dong Hyun Kim in August. The Strikeforce vet is 3-2 in his last 5 scraps, and is currently ranked #3.
So, that’s a pretty, intriguing addition to UFC 183, and if Gastelum wins, he’ll be in the title shot conversation.
