UFC 180: Fabricio Werdum Takes Out Mark Hunt After Early Scare

UFC

Mark Hunt’s well documented, comeback story didn’t end with a title win, tonight at UFC 180, as the heavyweight was stopped by Fabricio Werdum in the┬ásecond round.

Early on, it looked as though Hunt would become the interim champ, as he floored Werdum with a right hand, and then survived a grappling stretch with the submission wizard. In round two, the feared slugger continued to land on Werdum, but then the latter dropped him with an explosive knee.

Referee Herb Dean gave Hunt several moments to recover, but after Werdum landed blow after blow, the fight was halted.

Now that Werdum has the interim gold, he’ll challenge champion Cain Velasquez next year.

Other main card winners on the night included Ricardo Lamas and Kelvin Gastelum, who scored impressive, submission wins over Dennis Bermudez and Jake Ellenberger respectively.
