Dana White Tells Frankie Edgar and Cub Swanson to Worry About Each Other, Not Conor McGregor

Based off comments Dana White made last month, nearly everyone has been assuming that Conor McGregor will fight for the featherweight title next, provided he defeats Dennis Siver at UFC Fight Night 59. This, despite the fact, that Cub Swanson has reported he’s been told he’ll fight champion Jose Aldo next, if he takes out Frankie Edgar on November 22nd.

Of course, since McGregor is one of the sport’s fastest rising stars, people have kind of presumed Swanson was ‘misinformed’…After all, Swanson was stopped by Aldo back in 2007, and White alluded to that fact in October.

At any rate, if you go off what White recently told UFC.com, the promotion is waiting to see what plays out in the coming months, in terms of the featherweight title picture. When the UFC President was asked about the division and Swanson’s recent comments, he said:

“I told Cub and Frankie, ‘Don’t worry about anything you hear with all the Conor McGregor talk and all the other stuff. You worry about Cub Swanson and you worry about Frankie Edgar.’” White said. “Believe me, the fact that people are arguing over who should get a title shot in the 145-pound division isn’t a bad thing. It’s a good thing.”

Yes, there’s no question that the featherweight division has a lot of interesting story lines right now, as well as plenty of good fights on the horizon. But does this mean White is back tracking from what he said about McGregor’s title shot prospects a few weeks ago?

Perhaps, but White may have been outlining why McGregor should get a title shot, provided that’s indeed the direction that UFC wants to go. Of course, it should also be noted that White made those comments not long after McGregor took out Dustin Poirier, and before he was booked to fight Siver.

So, when you think about it, the UFC likely wouldn’t go with McGregor, if he squeaks by Siver and Swanson scores a big, clear cut win. Of course, if McGregor loses to the vet on January 18th, his title shot run comes to a screeching halt.

But, what if McGregor barely defeats Siver and Edgar takes out Swanson? Since Edgar was decisioned by Aldo just three fights ago, then ‘”Notorious” probably would get the green light no?
