Report: Fedor Emelianenko, UFC “Finalizing” Deal
According to the LA Times, citing an unnamed source with information on the negotiations, Fedor Emelianenko and the UFC are finalizing a deal that would see the top-ranked heavyweight compete inside the Octagon:
A long-awaited agreement between the Ultimate Fighting Championship and the man considered the world’s best mixed martial arts fighter, Fedor Emelianenko, is expected to be announced by UFC President Dana White on Friday, a source with information about the negotiations told The Times today.
The source, who asked not to be identified because he’s not authorized to speak publicly about the dealings, called negotiations between the UFC and Fedor “very civil” just days after Fedor’s scheduled Affliction Trilogy fight Saturday against Josh Barnett was canceled.
Take the report with a grain of salt, but if things are finalized and Fedor agrees to fight in the UFC, a heavyweight title bout against Brock Lesnar is up first for “The Last Emperor”.

This is just guess work by a guy who isn’t even affiliated with the UFC. I will believe it when it comes out of the big mouth of Mr Motivator himself, Dana White.

because brock is 4-1 and is overrated. fedor has fought bigger and stronger and i dont think fedor will tap him out, i think fedor will ko him.how you can say someone with 4 wins is so good is just unbelievable to me. havent you watched fedors fights? brock should have to win at least 10 fights before he even fights fedor. he dosent deserve the title he has. i want shane carwin or cain to fight him first, even nogaria who i think would tap him easy.
This would be Great for the sport! A brock/fedor fight promoted by UFC would do wonders for the sport and fan base growth no matter who mins and I think it could feed the next could UFC fights as well.
Great News MMA fans but don’t get your hopes up too high just yet given the history.
I’m really not sure what I’m more excited about Fedor vs Lesnar/Carwin , or a match vs the young but raw power of Dos Santos.. or Vitor vs Henderson/Anderson ,tho a rematch vs Wanderlei sounds nice as well .. I know the UFC has loads of talent in there 205 and 155 divisions I still think a fight between Gegard Mousasi and Lyoto Machida does spark my interest or even Ricardo Arona vs Machida/Mousasi or Shinya Aoki vs BJ/Kenflo/Sanchez
I re-post this not as a knock against Fedor, but more as a knock against his management, but I’ll believe that Fedor is going to fight in the UFC once the cage door locks on fight night and Herb Dean [or whoever] asks Fedor if he’s ready to go or not…
Definitely hope this happens, but will try to keep myself under control until it actually does.

BUT ……… If it does then Fedor should put lesnar to rest . Then wipe out carwin and finish with one more guy and call it a career . I would rather leave on a winning note than go one too many .

I’m not 100% sure on this, but I believe that Couture had it written into his contract that he gets first shot at Fedor should he ever make his way into the UFC…

Wouldn’t that be one more hurdle for the UFC to have to dance through. Not to sound mean, but I gotta say that’s bullsiht. There’s no way that the UFC would make Fedor’s signing have a contingency like you gotts fight Couture first. Fedor is the big fish, Couture is not so much anymore.
Dana has said if Fedor is signed his first fight will be for the title. Unless Randy somehow gets that back (no way in hell) it wont be Randy.
Myself, I have Brock winning. I’ll have to go put money on that one so I can cash in big if it happens cause I think Brock and myself are the only two who believe that outcome.
That picture of Fedor you use always makes me laugh – doesn’t really look like “the baddest man on the planet” but looks more like an after shot of someone from the biggest loser.

Below is a cut from Dana’s interview on Fedor fighting for the championship 1st (which was after Randy lost it so…) [from fightline.com]:
“He’ll fight for the title first,” he noted. “What does he need, a tune-up fight or something? … To argue where this guy sits in the heavyweight division, we can argue that all day.”
Despite saying that he didn’t believe that Fedor was the best heavyweight in the world, he couldn’t predict how a Lesnar – Fedor fight would go.
“I don’t know,” he said of the potential bout. “Fedor has a ton of experience. The guy’s been around forever. But you can’t take anything away from Brock Lesnar.
It’s an interesting fight,” he continued. “It’s a very good fight.”
White also said that he would give Randy Couture the chance to fight Fedor – provided that Couture could find a way to get Fedor to sign with the organization.
“Fedor’s got to come to a deal first,” he stated. “If Randy can go out there and cut that deal with Fedor, then Randy, get to work, buddy.”
but even if fedor wins randy would get an automatci title shot? i would hope that since I’m a big fan but not really fair. maybe depending on the fight w/ NOG performance
They should give Randy a title shot for his last fight as long as he doesn’t lose to NOG
Brock gets defeated by Fedor….. Randy beats Nog then beats Fedor….then Randy gets beat by Brock again it’s all about matchups
i agree it’s about match ups but and am familiar with these guys strengths but don’t see how you could envision those results marine?
Maybe he doubts Fedor’s abilities in a cage, where Randy has shown that he is able to pin against it and outpoint opponents?
At his age Couture would be a warm up fight only, but his game really works well against a cage – not that fedor won’t anticipate a different strategy but Couture would use it to the bet advantage, and it’ll give him a chance to feel the difference.
the Brock Carwin Fedor round robin has to happen though.
I’m excited about couture / Nog because eventhough they are both past their prim, they’re still pretty amazing and it’ll be cool to see their styles together.
If Brock beats Fedor I’ll sort of wish that there’d be a super heavyweight division. maybe the college wrestlers will flock
There seems to be a new wrestling / big dude era that hardly anyone can hang with. Cool to watch whoever wins for sure. But if Brock proves to be too big and strong for Fedor ….
i dont know about you guys but if you watched the couture-lesnar fight you would see that the size was the biggest factor now im not possitive but i believe fedor is around the size of couture and lesnar is going to bring him down and punish him the same way he did to mir i see lesnar by stoppage in the 2nd round,,, if he takes him down,, stand up not sure but i can see anyone hurting that huge jaw of THE BEAST LESNAR!!!!!
Fedor is a about ten pounds heavier than couture, and around the same amount lighter than Mir.
While his Neanderthalic size and strength are two of Lesnar’s greatest assets, it’s important to remember that Lesnar back in 2000 was the NCAA HW wrestling champion, and that in his most recent win against Frank Mir, Lesnar showed maybe for the first time a coherent fight plan, as well as applying some newly-learned catch-wrestling tecnhiques coupled with his size and strength to neutralize Mir’s submission attempts until the fight returned to the vertical plane.
However in MMA, like in most martial arts, skill eventually trumps size, and technique usually trumps strength.
I would guess that one day Lesnar will get beaten, probably by submission, either by Frank Mir in their rubber match, or maybe by Fedor if his supporters are right and his detractors are wrong, or maybe by some HW off on the horizon with some serious submission grappling skill, like Roger Gracie or even Robert Drysdale, who trains now at Xtreme Couture after his 2008 ADCC victory.
Yes, these guys are a year or two away, but Lesnar himself has only 5 fights, so how much experience does his opponent actually need, as opposed to skill and a smart fightplan?
Lesnar’s jaw is huge, and so is his ego, and therein lies the key to beating him IMO…
I also question his stamina.It takes a lot of oxygen to keep that mass moving and I just can’t see him going hard for 5 rounds.He showed signs of fatigue after one hard round with Randy and was losing that fight until he landed that lunchbox behind the ear.
Fedor has fought bigger and tougher guys throughout his career he hits harder than Mir…and has a better ground game by far he just finds ways to win against everyone definately don’t see the same outcome..And for russian I just think that if Fedor does beat Brock lets say….Well Randy matches up better with Fedor than he does Brock cause of the size and styles..in my opinion so in some circumstance if Randy beats Fedor and Brock avenges Fedor loss and beats a Carwin/Val then he would get a rematch for the title and would beat Randy again…I don’t think that is an impossible scenario..could happen
This will be an absolutely amazing fight between Lesner and Fedor. I just hope the deal actually goes through because nothing has been finalized as of yet. Fedor just doesnt seem to want to join the UFC.

brock will **** lesner in less then 2 min.of the first round,no one will beat brock now for 4-5 years he is now to good strong, in the heavy wieght division all you need is what he has over powering size and wrestling skills unmatchable,he fights at 280-290 on fight day solid and as quick as a 150 pound fighter,qoute me plan on him as champ for alot of years

that is the best thing I have ever heard I love watching fighting…I started in buying Pancrase in 91 and have bought every UFC, and pride ppv since “and a couple K1′S LOL” If brock is champion a 16 months from now “unless injury accures and he doesn’t fight” I will not watch the sport ever again haha…To say he will not get beat for 4,5 years WOW!!! thata unbelievable.. I don’t mind Brock Lesner and think he is getting better as a Hvyweight his catch wrestling and size are tough but think he is no match for fedor and he will get caught…to be honest I think Mirko, Barnett, Carwin, “Nog if he shows up” are among guys that I think could definately take out lesner. This Brock craze is good for the sport but lets be honest his wins……Heath Hering, size was way too much for an old Randy who is not expected to be as strong as he used to be… and seriously how good is Frank Mir would he really be in the top ten for Hvyweights if he didn’t knock out Nog yeah he has had good runs but do any of you put him in the same leauge as Fedor??
