UFC President Dana WhiteThe UFC on Saturday issued a press release officially announcing its previously reported deal with Affliction, which folded its MMA promotion on Friday to join the UFC as a sponsor, saying that the companies had “agreed to a  collaboration” that will benefit MMA and its growing fan base.

“We are excited about the return of Affliction to the UFC and look forward to seeing our fighters once again walk into the Octagon wearing the Affliction brands. Affliction is an innovator of mixing fashion with this sport and we are looking forward to working together to promote the sport.” said UFC President Dana White in the release.

“Our brand is synonymous with the ‘Live Fast’ approach to life and UFC is the perfect venue for us to market our brand. We have come to an agreement with the UFC which we feel will be the best for the sport and will help the UFC continue delivering the highest caliber of fights,” said Affliction co-founder Eric Foss.

    Fedor vs Lesnar?

  • Taff says:

This opens the gates to some massive fights for the future now hopefully including lesner vs Fedor

I’m wondering how Dana White, a master manipulator and sports promoter, managed to spin this “collaboration” to his longtime friends and business allies, the [surviving] TapOut crew.

As for Fedor versus Lesnar, or anyone else in the Octagon, don’t hold your breath. Fedor’s contract is with M-1, not specifically Affliction MMA, so more than likely Fedor’s next fight will either be in a Strikeforce cage, or somewhere in Japan.
Also, don’t forget the M-1 challange. Fedor could easily fulfill his obligation to M-1 at one of their events, in theory.

Glad to see the partnership. Although, I think it is funny that no more than two months ago Dana was claiming “nobody wears their stupid f*cking shirts anymore, the fad is over.” Now, not only is he welcoming the brand back, he is making statement about how he is excited to see his fighters walking in wearing Affliction again. Dana is a good promoter but if he was ever to get into the public eye (meaning people other than only UFC fans watching his press releases) he would get eaten alive the way he goes back and forth. It was only two years ago that he was claiming Fedor was overrated now he wants him for a “superfight,” Dana should worry about bringing his brand up rather than spending so much time bringing the other guys down; it seems to constantly be biting him in the ass.

so this has to be bad for silver star and ecko sponsors? i wonder if affliction will be so dominant a sponser as they were before they were banned?

    • Justin says:

Silver Star just signed Frank Trigg to a three fight contract, and they already have Rashad and GSP. I don’t think this is bad for other sponsors, it’s good for the fighters. The great deal Tapout has with the UFC for TUF hasn’t hurt the other sponsors. This provides more competition in the clothing sponsor marketplace for the fighters. More competition means that the clothiers will be offering more money to the fighters for them to wear their clothes. That means fighters will be able to make more money.
