John Lineker may hit like a truck, and has put away four of his list five opponents as evidence, but evidently Ian McCall isn’t too worried about that fact heading into their UFC Fight Night 56 scrap.
The #3 ranked flyweight is set to meet Lineker on November 8th, who has worked his way into the division’s #6 position, by stopping the likes of Phil Harris, Jose Maria Tome, Azamat Gashimov and most recently Alptekin Ozkilic.
Recently McCall spoke with MMA Junkie Radio, and here is some of what the outspoken fighter had to say about “Hands of Stone”:
“Comparatively to the best, the cream of the crop, all he has is the punch,” McCall said. “Jiu-jitsu, I will walk all over him and in wrestling, the same thing. I think it’s a good fight. I just have to go out there and bust my a–, put on a good performance and finish him.”
“He can talk all he wants, but he’s not going to trick me into playing his game,” McCall noted, while referring to the fact that Lineker is predicting a KO win. “I’m going to beat you the way I’m going to beat you, and it’s not going to be that hard.”
There’s no question that McCall is pretty fast on his feet, and that he’s also a very well rounded fighter. Many Lineker boosters would also likely argue, however, that the flyweight has more than just power loaded fists going for him.
It will be interesting to see how this fight unfolds, as there’s quite a bit of hype behind Lineker, now that his weight cutting issues are supposedly behind him. If he wins, and does so in impressive fashion, Lineker could tie up a title shot. If McCall wins, then he’ll be one step closer to securing a third fight with the reigning champ, Demetrious Johnson.
The two battled twice in 2012, and after fighting to a draw, Johnson took the rematch a couple of months later by unanimous decision.
UFC FN 56 will be hosted by Uberlandia, Brazil, and will feature “Shogun” Rua taking on Jimi Manuwa in the headliner.
