WEC Champ Torres Throws Out First Pitch Before White Sox Perfect Game
WEC bantamweight champion and Chicago-native Miguel Torres threw out the first pitch at today’s Chicago White Sox game against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.
The first pitch was followed by Major League Baseball’s 18th perfect game, tossed by the White Sox’ Mark Buehrle.
Torres (37-1), regarded as one of the world’s top pound-for-pound fighters and a winner of 17-straight bouts, returns to action next month at WEC 42, defending his title against Brian Bowles on August 9 in Las Vegas.
“I left a cup of lion’s blood and some cobra venom for him (Buehrle) at the mound to throw a no-hitter,” said Torres in a press release. “That’s how I roll. It was an awesome experience.”

Miguel set the mood for todays perfect game!!! A champion threw the first pitch and passed on the good luck!!! Awesome game!
Miguel Torres is a sick fighter, but he has a tough fight coming up. brian Bowles is undefeated and has a decent overall game, but Torres is a complete fighter, he has sick stand-up and an awesome ground game. I think that his experience and overall skill will win him this fight. Brian Bowles hasn’t been to the big dance yet so that might effect him, but Torres is one of the few guys that is alwasy mentally strong and is always game for whatever guy he has to fight, his previous fight was a very tough war that definitely will improve his overall skill set for this fight. Bowles can beat Torres, but i feel he will have to fight the perfect fight and at the same time hope that Torres makes a few mistakes.
Congrats to Mark Buerhle on the perfect game.
That is AWESOME!Torres must feel like he’s just blessed with greatness as he should.I think i might feel a little special to.Oh and congrats to buehrle he had a little something to do with it to.
When I watch Torres co-hosting MMAlive and the guys start talking about Fedor,Anderson, and GSP as the P4P best,I can’t help but think he must be thinking ‘what about me’.
True.
He’s top 3 for me, behind GSP and pretty close to A. Silva. Really, he could be top 2.
its sad that he is rarely mentioned in that conversation, however he should be considered the top p4p fighter. undefeated in 5+years and 17 straight wins against quality competition. that is insane. and he always shows up to fight and doesnt have an off showing like anderson does.
on a sidenote, its amazing that there was a perfect game, only the 18th in over a 100+years of baseball, thats freakin awesome imo.
Every time I mention Torres in one of my lengthy posts about being the best p4p fighter IMO, its usually met with resounding silence…
