Silva’s Manager: Bisping Fight Possible But Not Yet Discussed, Silva Prefers February Bout

Wanderlei SilvaRumors of middleweights Wanderlei Silva and Michael Bisping squaring off in November at UFC 105 are just that, according to Silva’s manager, who issued a statement on Thursday afternoon through Fighters Only commenting on the rumored matchup and Silva’s desire to wait until February for his next bout:

“The rumors about Wanderlei fighting Michael Bisping at UFC 105 in Manchester or at any point are simply that, rumors.

For some publication to say they have been given an exclusive statement on this from Team Wand is not truthful. Certainly, there have been no formal proposals or discussions relative to this match-up.

Of course, there is speculation that such a fight will occur and certainly there remains a possibility of such a match-up. However, at this time, rumors of the fight occurring at UFC 105, are simply that.

This fight has not been discussed or offered to us by the UFC. Wand’s preference is to fight in February. He wants to take time off to heal his body and mind, and with his new gym in Las Vegas, he has business affairs and a growing team to attend to.

Wanderlei and his coach, Raphael Alejarra, have both expressed a preference that Wanderlei wait until February for his next match. However if at some point in time, such a fight is proposed by the UFC, it will be given the appropriate consideration, as do all proposals, and a decision will be made at that time.”

Though a fight between Bisping and Silva would likely do big business, and is surely the preference of the UFC and Spike TV, the US broadcaster of the card, it appears unlikely that the middleweights will battle in the UFC 105 main event.

MMA Bay, the website which originally reported the potential matchup and already known to be questionable at best, won’t be sourced by MMAFrenzy.com in the future, with many other websites expected to do the same.

BLAST!!!!! I really would have enjoyed watching Bisbing get owned again.

A rittle to the reft…A rittle more, a rittle more. BAM!!!!! Right to the head.

  • fr702 says:

mmabay isn’t reliable imo, and thank you Kris for the update..

  • whoever Wanderlei fights next, i always look forward to seeing him fight. He would make great matchups with a lot of guys at 185. I think that the UFC is going to give him a big name and if he beats that guy he’ll get a title shot bcecause Dana has pointed out before that he would like Silva vs Silva to happen for the title and who the hell doesn’t wanna see that fight?

It’s smart of Wanderlei to want to take some extra time off, he’ll be able to drop down to 185 and take some time to settle into that weight rather than going into a fight all drained and worn out.

  • OnlyTrue1 says:

I believe if he gets settled in right, and use to the weight he will be a monster to deal with at that weight class!!!

You know how they try to help a fighter develop early in his mma career by giving them specific fights until they are ready, well if the UFC play their cards right they could do the same for a 32, 33 year old Wandy now at 185. Give him 2 or 3 tailor made fights @ 185 until he gets use to the weight class and then let’em lose!!

But it all sounds great typing in a perfect MMA world.

    • Jaymz says:

Yeah,I agree.A fight or two to get used to the weight cut,and a couple of KO’s to boost the confidence, probably wouldn’t hurt.

The Axe Murderer vs The Crippler?

      • dbiz says:

Why set him up with easy fights? You’re basically advocating that they “Bisping” him, as some on this site are fond of saying. Let him fight. If he wins, he wins. If he loses, he loses.

I would like to hope he wouldn’t go for such a strategy. It’s an insult to the sport.

      • Jaymz says:

I don’t know if any fight in the UFC would be exactly easy, but regardless, that’s not what I meant.I just meant let him fight a Leben or a Bisping before they set him up against an Anderson,Marquardt,or Henderson.I personally would love to see Wanderlei vs Leben, that would be a slugfest no doubt.Actually,I’d love to watch Wandy KO Bisping too,and that would likely be a good confidence boost as well.

  • Jazzkok says:

damn dude what’s going on here? lately EVERYTHING isn’t what it seems. Where are these sites getting all their ****?!?

    • jcohl says:

As our sport grows, so does its Internet presence, I guess.
And with that, we’ll get our share of individuals who like creating more problems than they solve.
Thats about the nicest way I can put it…

      • BsBiz says:

This website is the perfect cross-section of increased exposure. With the increased number of well-meaning (if sometimes slightly misguided) posters such as jcohl, an increased number of nitwits and $#%! stirrers will also pop up. C’est la vie. Comes with the territory.

      • fr702 says:

        DAAAAMMNNNN!!!!

      • jcohl says:

I think I can live with being viewed as “well meaning if sometimes slightly misguided” as it pertains to our sport.
        Thanks for the compliment, bsbiz.

      • OnlyTrue1 says:

        well Jchol

        I smell some $#%! stirring!!

If “‘vous savez ce que je dis”!!!!

      • carls says:

Ya ive noticed alot of dweebs on here lately. But with all the talk of Fedor I guess they couldnt hide forever.

  • RJA says:

I’m not to intersted in a silva vs bisping matchup espesially as a main event.Bisping is just gonna get throttled again.i would rather see wandy vs maia/marquart.

    • fr702 says:

We do realize that Wanderlei and Maia train together? And well that won’t be happening no matter how much people would like it too

      • NATE says:

wanderlei and anderson used to train together too. i know USED TO are the key words there but still. WANDERLEI vs ANDERSON im guessin UFC 126. wanderlei’s gotta get settled first. cant wait to see that clinch drill at its finest. $100 on wanderlei

      • dbiz says:

        [begin Don LaFontaine voice]
In a land…where Fedor is viewed as p4p best…The reality distortion field is strong. But what happens when….{dramatic pause}….their world turns upside down?
        [end Don LaFontaine voice]

Keep fighting the good fight, FR. I’m done correcting people here. It just isn’t worth it.

  • nightmare says:

if this does happen it would seem like a somewhat nice card already Franklin vs. Henderson (even though some poeple don’t want to see that since it’s already happened lately) , bisping Vs. wanderlei
