UFC boss man Dana White confirmed recently that Rory MacDonald will challenge for the promotion’s welterweight belt sometime early next year, but the rising fighter will compete before then, just not in MMA.
If you’re unaware, MacDonald is booked to grapple jiu-jitsu stud, Jonathan “JT” Torres, at Metamoris V on November 22nd. It’s an interesting match-up, as while Torres has won a ridiculous amount of jiu-jitsu championships and medals, Mr. MacDonald is also a pretty accomplished grappler in his own right.
Metamoris has begun releasing “Countdown” episodes for its upcoming event, and the latest features MacDonald and Torres. It’s an interesting vid, not only because it shows both men putting in some time on the mats, but because they discuss the differences between MMA and jiu-jitsu competition.
The November 22nd card will also feature Renzo Gracie taking on Kazushi Sakuraba (which any old school fan is going to want to see), as well as a match between UFC vets Kevin Casey and Vinny Magalhaes.
