Joachim Hansen and Shinya Aoki To Fight For Third Time at DREAM 11
DREAM lightweight champion Joachim Hansen will meet top lightweight Shinya Aoki for the third time on October 6 at DREAM 11 in Kanagawa, Japan, the promotion has announced.
Aoki submitted Hansen with a gogoplata in late-2006 in their first meeting in PRIDE, but Hansen evened the series last July with a TKO of Aoki to win the DREAM belt.
Since his loss to Hansen, Aoki (21-4) has won 4 of his 5 fights, losing only to Hayato Sakurai at welterweight while winning all 4 of his lightweight bouts, including a unanimous decision victory over Vitor Ribeiro at DREAM 10 on Monday.
Hansen (19-7-1) has not competed since winning the title, withdrawing from a scheduled matchup with Gesias Calvancante at Dynamite!! 2008 on New Years Eve at the last minute after reportedly suffering a concussion while warming up for the fight. He’s since recovered and will square off with Aoki in his first title defense.
DREAM 11 also features the semifinals and finale of the DREAM featherweight grand prix, as well as the semis of the promotion’s open weight Super Hulk tournament. Jason “Mayhem” Miller and Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza are also expected to fight for a third time at the event to crown a new middleweight champ, with Calvancante also rumored to be in action on the card.

Should be a good fight and good event. Hopefully Mayhem won’t “punt” Jacare this time.
If Miller screws this up again I’m going to be very pi$$ed off. I’m really hoping that he can reel off a few quality wins, and catch the eye of the UFC.
As I’ve said before, the WW division could use some shaking up, and I see Jason Miller as the stirrer in the drink, so to speak.
I really enjoyed my “breakfast in bed” with DREAM 10, and am looking forward to DREAM 11 as well.
These overnight webcasts have sort of started a new tradition in my house, the “grown-up gourmet sleepover”, wherein I bang out maybe a half dozen high-end dishes, and me and my MMA-watching crew crowd around a couple laptops and watch the event.
Miller fights at MW now, and got beat by GSP in his only UFC fight to date. I wouldn’t mind seeing him back in the UFC, but unfortunately I don’t think he would last very long. I do hope he wins against Jacare though.
I’m sure you’re right about Miller fighting at MW, but I remember him saying on some internet radio show that he’d compete in the UFC if he ever made it back at 170?
And yeah, I agree Justin, that as entertaining as Mayhem is, I think there are too many fighters in the UFC at either WW or MW that would take advantage of his somewhat questionable ground game.
Maybe Strikeforce?
So is this for the WAMMA belt ( that still hasnt shown up ) or just the DREAM title ? Should be for both based on the philosophy of WAMMA right ???
HAHAHHAHHAHHAHHAHAHA………..
DREAM title, but yeah, based on the WAMMA philosophy you might have a point there… even though they’ve had two separate CEOs (or some other executive position, don’t remember which) leave in a short period of time.
