Urijah Faber Has “No Idea” When He’ll Return; Likely Won’t Fight Until 2010

Urijah FaberFormer WEC featherweight champion Urijah Faber, who injured both his hands in July in an unsuccessful bid to reclaim the title against Mike Brown, has told MMA Fanhouse that he has “no idea” when he’ll return to the cage, with “The California Kid” unlikely to fight again until next year.

“Hopefully it’s sooner than later, but I’ll still be a happy dude,” said Faber. “I’ll be happy no matter what. I’m good no matter what happens.

“I’m ready for anything. I’ll fight anybody I can that they want me to fight, anyone that they think is interesting. I’m ready for anything. I’ll fight anybody I can that they want me to fight, anyone that they think is interesting.”

Faber has lost 2 of his last 3 fights, with both defeats coming at the hands of Brown, while also picking up a victory in a rematch with Jens Pulver. He had previously won 13-straight bouts.

i see a anderson silva/ rich franklin situation building from faber and mike brown…..if faber cant come back and beat mike brown the third time its gonna be all over for him at 145 until brown loses……im sure faber is really praying that jose aldo wins

I believe the Aldo kid will get’ter done!!

That dude is unbelieveably skilled athletic and talented!!
If brown can take it to the distance and wrestle him for 5 rds he may have a chance outside of that early KO. Aldo is too unpredictable!!

        Uhhh Gun ? for ya…
What’s up with the “I WANT BJ’S BELT” thing you got going!!

It’s hilarious cause I assume you want Florian to beat bj and at every opportunity you post it…

If so I hope “if” Florian wins he brings you the belt with Bj blood smeared on it and you hang it on your mantle!!!

        By the way the Avatar you had with the guy with two guns fit you to the tee!! {I cant think of his name}

      • OnlyTrue1 says:

My bad I just heard the Ken/Flo Cry of “I WANT BJ’S BELT”

I also heard him say it’s time to kill the Master!!

        Strong words we shall see!!!

      • nev-o says:

AMEN! you shall get bjs belt!

  • fr702 says:

OT1, remember when you use to put your disclaimer’s at the end of your statements.. Its kinda the same thing and well I assume it will be done til BJ Penn successfully defends his belt against KenFlo…

Aldo v Brown is going to be SICK, no doubt… I actually can’t wait for that fight, still on the fence of whom to pick..

Faber is a stud and broke his shhh and that sucks but he best not rush his own return.. I would love to see Faber try and move down and face Torres but if he decideds to stay at 145 so be it… Crazy idea..

The avatar that Gun had over at playground was a pretty good one too, but now its not the same because his Doberman got put to SLEEP!!!!

    • OnlyTrue1 says:

      Fr what up Big homie!!!

Dude you actually remember the disclamiers!! Hahahahaha That was tooo funny!!

      Much Respect homeboy Respect!!

Yeah Faber is PURE STUD, that kid is on a whole nother level I wish the guy well and hope he get even BETTER!!! Man if he and Torres fought I think my head may explode from the unadultrated awesomeness of those two fighting!!!

      • fr702 says:

yes I do remember the disclaimers absolutely…

Faber v Torres would be a little man superfight and it would crazy awesome forsure

  • russiandoeboi says:

faber is still the best. torres would give him the best fight.
brown is a stud but still if it was brown with 2 f’dup hands there is practically no way he survives 4 more rounds with faber.

  • knightboy says:

if faber wont of broken his best hand then the dec. win would of been his. they will fight again even if aldo wins because faber wont like not gettin a win back.
funny story i was puttin a bet on filho to win on monday, and at the bottom of the bodog page was a line for brock vs fedor in 2010 it was like not that much in favor of fedor and it said venue and organazation not yet chosen.

  • Fred says:

Not taking anything away from Mike Brown, but what Uriah did was nothing short of incredible. To survive and compete for 5 rounds was amazing.

  • Carmen says:

I hope he’s back sooner than that

  • jcohl says:

Right up until Faber-Brown 1 I was convinced that Urijah Faber was in fact the world’s best p4p fighter. Most of his fights and title defenses up to that point were almost ridiculously easy, and the guy seemed unbeatable at 145.
Not to take anything away from Mike Brown, who is an animal at FW, but I thought that maybe Faber over-regarded himself in their first fight, and maybe under-regarded Brown, and got beat in the process.
Lesson to be learned there for sure, because most of the rest of the MMA community knew that Mike Brown was for real.

I thought Faber would surely win their rematch, and considering the performance Faber delivered with his both of his hands damaged, I stand by that belief.
Someday, Faber and Brown will get it on, and I’m confident that Faber will regain his title, assuming Jose Aldo isn’t wearing it at that time, which in some ways would benefit Faber.
I personally would prefer him to take as much time as he needs, and as much time as his doctors recommend, so that when he does come back we get a full-fledged California Kid inside the cage.

Also, if Faber were to drop down to BW, I could easily seeing it be the greatest “small man” fight in MMA history, as Torres is currently my pick for the world’s best p4p fighter, and a supernaturally-gifted champion in his own right.
Big things in WEC’s future, not doubt about it…
