Lorenzo FertittaThe UFC has plans to hold multiple events in Canada in 2010, adding to its annual April event in Montreal with planned cards in Vancouver and Toronto, with 2010 events in Miami, Florida and Dublin, Ireland also in the works.

UFC co-owner Lorenzo Fertitta discussed the events last weekend at the UFC Fan Expo, announcing that the promotion will hold a pay-per-view event in June in Vancouver, while “guaranteeing” that the UFC will also stage a card in Toronto sometime next year.

Fertitta also announced that the UFC is planning a Fight Night event to take place in Miami in 2010, but that it has no immediate plans for a pay-per-view event in the city, and that the UFC will return to Ireland on St.Patrick’s Day next year for an event in Dublin.

With a crazy enough card the UFC could possibly sell out the skydome. This might sound crazy, but im basing this off the fact that they sold out the bell centre 2 years in a row in less than a day. That building holds about 23,000

Also the WWF got 67,000 thousand fans out for the wrestlemania they had there. REcently the UFC has been beating the WWE in PPV sales.

They would likely need to have george or brock on the card to even attempt to acheive that.

  • Jazzkok says:

My guess is the they will have GSP in toronto and probably do what they always do and have stout and maybe cote on the card for all the canadians.

  • wellfire says:

Cote vs Henderson would be a good one to put on the card

  • HendoFan says:

An event here in toronto would be siick! But we gotta get it sanctioned here first. I got faith that dana and fertita’s can convince our provincial wackjob politicians soon enough.
GSP vs SILVA…65,000 in the skydome!!!!

  • I don’t think they should have GSP headline the Toronto event, they should give the Canadian fans a different main event, but i’m more than sure GSP will headline this event because nobody can bring in the fans like GSP in Canada. I can’t wait for the UFC to travel to other countries besides Canda and the UK, it be cool if the UFC would go back to Brazil.

  • mikewh says:

A show here in Vancouver would be sweet, it is not sanctioned here yet where the UFC goes the the laws seem to be put in place in time.
Thats a lot of power to persuade law change and no politician would want to be responsible for the loss of millions of dollars to the local economy…or face the rage of the MMA people.

  • jcohl says:

This might be slightly off-topic, but is it my imagination or are the Fertitas, Lorenzo in particular, taking a more active role in the UFC?
I think it was Lorenzo that went and got the whole Mirko thing sorted out, and now he’s taking point on announcing the 2010 slate of events.
Maybe Dana needs some downtime, or something else brewing over at Zuffa?

Also…I can just imagine…St Patrick’s Day…Dublin…Marcus Davis-Dan Hardy rematch for the “Irish” WW title? ;)
    Good stuff.

    • mikewh says:

I think your right, the UFC and MMA are expanding so quickly that Dana simply cant do it all.
It must be hard for a guy to give up anything considering i’ve read he is quite a control freak.

      • frantzfanon says:

I say it’s a good transformation, if in fact that is the situation at Zuffa. This could be the Ferttitas way of showing the public where the power truly lies..

Maybe this will assist Dana White in acting more professional in public.

      • carls says:

Well remember last year lorenzo said he would stop putting his time into the casino’s and start devoting all his time to the UFC.

    • Eldiablo says:

Lorenzo has officially backed away from the gambling aspect of his holdings and is now focusing 100% on the UFC. Goes to show how much this sport (UFC specifically) is worth.

  • bigchris2328 says:

i think dana cant keep up with the rapid explosion of ufc j. homeboy cant be everywhere, but yes i agree that lorenzo is more active now at least publicly. also for the dublin card i think forrest is gonna be on that one. isnt he somewhat irish? i know he has that sponsorship by mickey’s irish whiskey. fyi j, davis won that hardy fight. the refs screwed him, but its all good, another overrated brit will be exposed soon enough.[hardy]

kinda cool that the ufc is planning an event where mma isnt sanctioned yet.and imo it will be cote-wandy not cote-hendo.

    • wellfire says:

      cote wandi would be good

    • jcohl says:

Regardless of if Hendo fights Wand or Cote, or the latter fight each other, it will be an instant classic and a great “intro” for the Irish fight fans.

And yeah, if Forrest is available he’ll definitely be on the card, not only is he part Irish and ricking Irish whiskey sponsorship, but his stand-up style will really bring the Emerald Isle to their feet, especially if he gets paired with the right opponent, like a Rampage rematch??

  • bones says:

any one have any idea when the ufc will be coming to australia. because i live in new zealand and thats the closet and cheapes place to me…

  • RonnyRAGE says:

When is the UFC going to come to Utah? I would take a Fight Night. Come on UFC throw us a bone

  • Gunslinger says:

I really cant wait to see the ufc event thats in miami…I just have a feeling about that one i dont know why……But kris any info on when they’ll be coming back to columbus?
