If you were looking forward to seeing Gina Carano in the UFC sometime soon, and already had your Carano-Rousey viewing party plans well underway, it may be time to shelve them…
Earlier in the week, news surfaced that Carano has been booked for two more films, which are being produced before 2014 is up. Everyone realized that Carano wouldn’t be making her UFC debut in the coming months, and that Ronda Rousey will almost certainly face someone else next.
Well, now White has made several comments, which are raising questions as to whether Carano and the UFC will ever come to an agreement. The UFC President has admitted in the past that negotiating with Carano has been “complicated”, but White also said the parties were “close.”
While speaking to FOX Sports.com more recently, however, here is what White had to say about the negotiations:
“The hardest human being we’ve ever dealt with and I didn’t see it coming,” White said. “I don’t know, we’ll see how these things play out. Just incredibly difficult. We’ve dealt with (Brock) Lesnar, Tito (Ortiz), Chuck (Liddell) was f–king king of the world, Ronda Rousey, we’ve pretty much done deals with everyone on Earth and she is the hardest f–king athlete we have ever dealt with.”
“The problem is she allows herself to be handled by these Hollywood f–king idiots. It’s absolutely crazy. We’ve had all the biggest superstars in the world. You’re talking about a girl who hasn’t fought in a while. Any time you deal with anyone in f–king Hollywood it’s a joke. It’s literally a joke, it’s comical. You feel like you’re in a ‘Saturday Night Live’ skit,” White said. “This can’t be f–king real. In dealing with her people, I don’t know if it can be done.”
So, yeah, it doesn’t sound like things are going so well….while the insults White hurled at Carano’s reps are on thing, perhaps his comment about her not having “fought in a while” are the most telling.
Carano hasn’t fought since 2009, when she was stopped by Cris “Cyborg” under the Strikeforce banner. One could infer the UFC has cited that fact as a means to keep her asking price down…then again, this is the same organization which evidently was prepared to offer Carano a title shot right out of the gate.
One thing is for sure, if Carano does sign with the UFC and gets booked to fight Rousey, it’s going to be a pretty, pretty big deal. Even if the bout itself isn’t very competitive…
Considering all this, if Cat Zingano goes out and scores a win over Amanda Nunes at UFC 178, look for her to finally get the title shot she earned last spring.
