If you’ve been hoping for a Wanderlei Silva comeback, following the fighter’s recent retirement announcement, it looks like the legendary fighter will have a huge hurdle to overcome if he wants to throw down again.
At the Nevada State Athletic Commission’s latest hearing today, which also covered the Jon Jones-Daniel Cormier brawl, the organization announced it has handed Silva an indefinite, lifetime ban. The sentence has been handed down after Silva skipped out on a random drug test earlier this year, when he was supposed to fight Chael Sonnen at UFC 175. The former Pride champ has also been fined $70,000.
Silva apologized to the commission not long ago for the incident, and also admitted to talking a diuretic, before he and his representatives argued the NSAC had no authority to discipline him (since the 38 year-old wasn’t licensed yet to compete in Nevada). Clearly the commission wasn’t convinced by that argument.
While it appears like Silva will appeal the decision, it’s certainly looks like Brazilian’s amazing career has come to a close.
