UFC 100 Results: Lesnar and St-Pierre Remain Champions with Dominant Wins, Henderson KOs Bisping

Posted by Kris Karkoski on Jul 12, 2009 at 1:35 am ET75 Comments

UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock LesnarHeavyweight title-holder Brock Lesnar became the UFC’s undisputed heavyweight champion on Saturday in the main event of UFC 100 by avenging the only loss of his MMA career with a second-round knockout of interim champ Frank Mir to cap off the historic pay-per-view event, which took place at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.

Despite his dominant performance, Lesnar earned little respect from fans after confronting a still-dazed Mir in the cage before flipping off the crowd and belittling top UFC sponsor Bud Light in a pro wrestling-esque post-fight speech.

UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre retained the 170-pound title by dominating top-contender Thiago Alves en-route to a clear unanimous decision victory. St-Pierre, who neutralized Alves’ striking throughout the contest and used a series of takedowns to earn the win, will meet the winner of Mike Swick vs. Martin Kampmann in his next title defense.

Former PRIDE champion Dan Henderson likely earned another crack at the middleweight title currently held by Anderson Silva with a highlight reel second-round knockout of Michael Bisping. After picking Bisping apart during the first round, Henderson stalked the UK fighter in the second before connecting with a brutal right that collapsed Bisping to the canvas then followed it up with another huge right on the ground that left Bisping unconscious for nearly a minute before he staggered back to reality.

Jon Fitch and Yoshihiro Akiyama were also victorious on the main card, earning decision victories, while Mark Coleman and Jon Jones were the big winners on the evening’s preliminary card.

Stay tuned to MMAFrenzy.com all-day Sunday for comprehensive post-UFC 100 coverage.

All I can say is George is a beast as I’ve said along. For the poster who told me I was crazy for saying GSP would Dominate Alves all I can say is look at the evidence!!!

Alves is too powerful and too strong and too over rated and too completely dominated in every single round.. This guy was no BJ penn Nor Jon Fitch all he did was beat a ill prepared Koscheck and Aging Broke version of Matt Hughes!!

I am called Only True 1 for a reason homie..

I know he was Emotional but to do what Brock did was sooooo many ways wrong and sooooooo WWE!! Unbelieveable!! He actually did that!!

Dan Henderson Man The real Dan henderson showed up tonight!!!

    Mark Coleman??????????? What????

Jon Jones: I believe we are witnessing the Future developing here.

    • covetous says:

Brock did what anyone would have done after being shunned by the MMA snobs who can’t see past the WWE stigmata.

      • zac says:

i dont think anyone would act like a giant douche…just brock and you apparently.

      • OnlyTrue1 says:

Flipping off fans is not what “Anyone” would have done. Class act that guy is. No shame or code of conduct for a warrior huh??

Dont be or act how people make you act or expect you to act it adds more fuel to the fire. Especially a foolish act like that!!

He brings all the WWE Stigma on himself acting like that.

He did a great job and beat Mir I give him all the credit in the world I even picked him to win tonight. OHHH by the way He won me a lot pocket of money tonight Him and George.

But by winning and giving Mir the beating he did let that be you F-You to him and the people boo’ing.

      • OnlyTrue1 says:

I noticed I typed my post wrong

What I tried to type was

“By beating Frank Mir the Way he did, let that {beating he gave} be the F-You to him {Frank Mir} And the people Boo’ing the so called “MMA Snubs” {Fans}!!

        Ya feel me?

      • Justin says:

This was addressed in the post fight press conference. Dana chewed him out in the locker room, Brock apologized heavily, Dana said (paraphrased) “That’s not who he is, I don’t know what that was, but that’s not who he is. If he was an uncontrollably jerk, I would tell you, but he’s not, that’s not who he is. He gets in there and the adrenaline starts flowing, and he starts talking but his brain isn’t sending the message, I don’t know where it’s coming from, but it’s not his brain.”

        (Copied from another post)

      • dbiz says:

Yeah, that’s PR Justin. Fact is, he’s a douche. That was the least classy thing since Cantwell’s “I’ve always wanted to do that” line about Al-Hassan’s arm. The only way he could have shown less class would be to pull the cup out and put it over Mir’s face like an oxygen mask.

Of course Dana isn’t going to say anything about the new Golden goose for the UFC. No….Dana is covering his star’s ass.

      • rifraf says:

Anyone would not disgrace the sponsor ” bud light” the fans- with the fans there would be no UFC, and especially not their own wife. i hiope she did not let him get on top os her that night.

  • Whistle says:

Well i’m hoping Lesnar vs Carwin will be sometime soon!

    • rifraf says:

Brock pulled out an impressive victory, but he completely disgraced himself and the ufc with his actions after the fight. Dana should have been ashamed of himself handing the belt to Lesnar. The sport does not need a “bad ass”. I would love to see, Carwin beat the snot out of him. Or maybe recriut Barnett or Fedor. Either of the class acts would destroy Brock.

  • OnlyTrue1 says:

Real quick of course hind sight is 20/20 but IMO I felt they were rushing Bisping a little to fast as far as his progession was developing.. Yeah he beat other guys but maybe he is just not in the Elite fighter status yet.

To fight Dan Henderson {who is or was maybe top 2-4 in the division} at this stage of his Career was maybe too fast.

    Just a thought.

  • kieron brown says:

i am gutted that Bisping and Alves lost! better luck next time

  • Jdubb says:

Lesnar is an ASS wish the UFC would never have picked him up… Damn poor Frank

    • covetous says:

Poor Frank! He got his butt handed to him…and though the first time he won his face looked like a raw pizza. Nine times out of ten Lesnar beats Mir, without mazzigati of course. The question is where does “poor” Frank go from here. To big to go to LHW and to weak to beat the HW champion…so yea I guess “poor” Frank

      • dbiz says:

And I guess the entire welterweight and middleweight divisions just just hang it up too, right?

(Don’t pick on the new people. – Justin)

      • croatian representer says:

franks stand up was looking very good until lesnar just layed on him. typical boring wrestler. should of stood and traded

    • Justin says:

I posted a comment further up regarding Lesnar’s conduct in the Octagon post fight.

  • Dswall91 says:

the ufc needs to bring in Fedor so they can shut Lesner the hell up its getting old. And i found hendo’s win because he litterly shut Bispings mouth with that right hook

    • Justin says:

They have been trying to bring in Fedor, but Fedor’s handlers make ridiculous demands.

      • AK says:

That is not true. Actually, it is UFC who made a contract the way that no one in the right mind would sign. Contract was 18 pages long, would forbid Fedor to do anything anywhere, allow them to drop him off at any time for any reason, and automatically renew at their decision without any change in terms. You can look it up on the Net.

      • rifraf says:

Wrong!!! Fedor wants to fight Brock, but at the same does not want to be owned by the UFC. If Dana White can sign a one fight deal with Mirko…….there is no excuse for signing fedor to a one fight deal. ufc probably willnot do this because they know that Brock will get his ass whooped.

  • goblue says:

new to posting comments on here, really like the site but anyway…

i think the bashing of brock is a little unfounded…while yes he probably didn’t need to flick off the crowd or any of his other antics following the fight, but it needs to be put into perspective here, this was a fight not a tennis match or golf tournament…the sport is about fighting and hurting/defeating the oppenent in various ways..i personally don’t like it when fighters talk s*** pre-fight and then hug like best friends after it, mir bashed brock and disrespected his intelligence and ability as a fighter so obviously he is going to be fired up and emotional after a dominating win against the guy…once again this sport is fighting and the fighters train to hurt one another so a little anger, rage, and hot head attitude is to be expected if not welcomed in my opinion

    • OnlyTrue1 says:

      Welcome Newbie {goBlue}

I understand as well as others that this is a fight sport, no matter how you put it organized sport violence is what this is.

BUTTTTTT again it is an organized sport {emphasis on sport} and you are paid very well not only for your skill but largely how you are percieved and conduct yourself in said sport…

Brock has fought in countless arena’s he KNOWS how to shut out fans who are boo’ing… NO EXCUSSES…. You do not let boo’ing get under your skin or Thrash talk after you Beat the HELL outta the guy!!! Thats what they give you 400,000 for FLIP THOSE DOLLARS ALL THE WAY TO THE BANK…

Again remember I bet and was rooting for him to win so I could get paid but to see him behave like that is unacceptable even for my sick mentally crazed self.

The fans pay to see you not to get flipped off by a guy who I paid to see!!!
True NOT all guys will behave like a St Pierre but atleast have some respect for your Art, Yourself, Your Team mates, Your opponett, Your Boss who brought you in to this SPORT organization!!

What say we to our kids who love this guy?? OHH it’s okay to lose your temper and flip off your mom or me when we get under your skin or at football games when you dominate a team in thier home town give’em the old middle finger yeah thats okay as long as your mad and they talked trash!!! That the spiriT!!!

Again this is a sport there is supose to be some form of Class and Code of Conduct at this Level of the Sport!!

      • goblue says:

no i definitely understand what you are saying, and like i said his antics/actions weren’t necessary and he should show more class especially when he is the victor but I just felt like his reaction should be at least a little justified, well maybe not justified but at least understandable…training for that long and getting yourself that amped up for the biggest fight of his career (all be it a short one so far), on the biggest event in UFC history, and against a guy who had already beat him and who has been trashing him, his ability, and his intelligence…I just think its at least understandable why he reacted the way he did in the heat of the moment with all that adrenaline pumping after an intense fight…basically just wanted to defend him a bit and he did apologize for what he did in the press conference and said his emotions in the moment got the best of him and he needed to act more professional…I just really enjoy watching the freak of nature fight and think he should be respected more as a fighter after a solid victory and hopefully more professionalism will now follow

      • goblue says:

oh and i can’t hate on him for dissing bud light b/c its terrible and i love coors light haha

      • OnlyTrue1 says:

Yeah I honestly like the guy but as Justin and FR702 keep me in line about certain antics and why it is not JUSTIFIED to behave like that the same must be said of the HEAVY WEIGHT CHAMPION OF THE WORLD…

Think about it, we love these guys right and yes they are human but to a degree be it small we hold these guys in high esteem and expect and rightfully so to show us and our kids WHAT IT MEANS TO BE A CHAMPION in some ways right.

So it’s okay for MY DAWG Rampage to Drive down the street with a Monster true and endanger lives??? Its justified because he was angry and emotional after all he been through???

Its okay for A Fighter to rob a bank because “hey the stimulus package didn’t help this poor fighter and he just had a big fight??

NAHHH Man it’s not because as bad as I want to give my boss and some of the Customers the finger and tell them that I will take that horse shoe outta their a$$ and beat them with it and i’m gonna drink a coor’s light and hump my wife because they are getting under my skin I know I would be FIRED!! NO QUESTIONS ASKED!!

So I hold guys like brock who get paid 400,000 to behave a little more civil when he JUST BEAT THE CRAP OUT OF A GUY AND GOT ALL THAT MONEY AND IS NOW THE UNDISPUTTED CHAMPION OF THE WORLD.

      • OnlyTrue1 says:

        LOL!
Honestly I’M only mad because he did a poor job of acting like STONE COLD STEVE AUSTIN!!

      • Devon nygren says:

There is a reason he gets paid 400,000$ and it’s not so he can act civil. Brock lesner brings in the crowds. Now more then ever especially after what he did. People will be watching to see what he will say and do next. I certainly didn’t mind any of his actions. It also didn’t bother the six other people at my house watching the fight. We all laughed and enjoyed what he did. Even my wife thought it was great. Brock is out spoken and enjoyable to watch.

No one in the ufc gets paid to act like a champion, they get paid to fight.

After the fight he rubbed it in Mirs face and I had no problem with that. Mir had been rubbing the first Fight loss in Brocks face for months, so a couple of comments after the fight by Brock is fine by me.

Also maybe now the sponsers will realize that when you have an outspoken giant it is better to sponser him then to not sponser him.( Everyone at my party loved the Coors Light comment) The more people who want to see you fight the more you get paid. Brock is now one of the biggest names in the ufc. As such he gets paid the most , Just to show up and fight.

    • Devon nygren says:

I completely agree. I loved what he did after the fight. The crowd there were booing him so he did what comes naturally to him. He flips them off. That made me enjoy the night even more. I will be talkingabout the coors light coment at work for a long time to come. He is a great beast of a champion and mir found out that you should not run your mouth. If the ref had not stopped the first fight Mir would have never won. Stop pretending the ufc is something it is not. When people fight they have emotion and lesner had alot of it, and I enjoyed every minute of it. I can’t wait to see him fight again.

      • bsbiz says:

He was paid $400k in disclosed money to go out there and fight, not act like the caveman his critics have tried to portray him as. I thought he fought a phenomenally tactical fight. Brutally effective. But no matter the outcome of a fight, there is no excuse for d-baggery (not sure if the auto-censor will pick up that word).

  • goblue says:

GSP was dominant and impressive once again and I don’t think Swick/Kampmann stand a chance, hopefully his injury won’t be too serious either

Hendo ko was sick and very impressive as well, I hope we get to another Hendo/Silva matchup as I think Hendo stands as the best chance to defeat the Spider in the division

glad to see Jones won his fight, wish it would have aired tho exciting young guy

    • OnlyTrue1 says:

GSP is a monster!!! Why he isn’t considered P4P best is beyond me!! He and A. Silva are neck and neck in that discussion.

My favorite line from here on out will be “hit him with your groan” and he did!! LOL

  • Andrew says:

With the 10 seconds Lesnar was on his feet he did not seem real comfortable compared to Mir. Lesnar might have problems if someone is able to keep the fight standing in the future.

  • Dr.doom says:

Only got to hear about it through the mmafrenzy play-by-play . That was really cool …… good way to get the results . Lesnar wasnt my pick but he did beat Mir so hats off to him . Still wouldn’t say he is the best heavyweight on the planet , and I’m leaving out Fedor because he is the obvious comparison . Just based on his experience (4-1),there are a few who could still beat him with a game plan . Barnett would do well … Brett Rogers would make for a fast KO either way , those guys come out swinging hahaha that would be wild . But as for the ufc its hard to say …….. shane carwin ?? maybe …. Big Nog could pull of an upset but probably not . Will have to just see what happens next .

  • JRGreyt says:

havent posted a comment in about a year but i had to chime in on this one. so much brock bashing. Mir has been talkin crap for months! fans booed him since the weigh ins up until herb dean calling the fight. adrenaline and emotions will cause different reactions outta different people. i dont blame him for letting his emotions go. it happens. plus he went on espn.com shortly afterwards and apologixed countless times for his actions. mir looked like a complete different person after the fight. he was a mess. wow

Henderson has crazy power and i have not cheered that hard at an outcome of a fight in a long time. that was a crazy brutal knockout.

sexyama and belcher was a good fight!

St. Pierre looks unbeatable once again…

    WAR Florian at 101!!!

  • Nate says:

GSP all day I was actually a little disappointed and I know he was too that he didnt finish Thiago I thought he would beat Alves worse than he did BJ, everyone is talking about GSP and Anderson but thats not going to happen for a while and the Swick/Kampmann winner is going to lose badly…I was thinking after the fight how about a superfight with GSP and Hendo…two great wrestlers both with KO Power and both PROVEN…oh yeah I wanna see it!

  • OnlyTrue1 says:

ON the brock Bashing, I dont see all that much of it yet.. And if so hey he fliped us the finger man what did you think would happen??

Did not Brock talk trash to Frank?? Calling his belt fake and so on???

I give him {Brock} soooo much credit, cause it was a brilliant game plan, just how he nulified {misspelled} any attempt of Franks sub’s by smoothering him and holding 1 arm down and brutally punishing frank, there is only so much pain you can take from those “lunch boxes”!!

    In my heart I wanted Frankie to win because of what he represents { a true martial artist who has done this for years and what he personally went through just to get back to the top}
BUTTTTT my pocket said Brock and so I went that way!! The guy is just toooo much and he actually is really good!!

    • Rob61 says:

Wait Wait Wait… True Martial Artist? So what were saying Brock is a fake martial artist now…..wow. And really what he(mir) went through to get back to the top? I’m sorry but i really cant feel bad for a guy who is at the top of his game and then go’s and wrecks his bike.. THEY CALL THEM DONAR-CYCLES FOR A REASON PEOPLE. On a side note to the flipping off of the crowd… Well you know what man, if all I have ever done is live up to the hype*in all but the 1st mir fight* and at times go above and beyond that hype and people still have boo’ed me along the way…well yeah i think I’d throw two fingers in the air at the “fans” to. Think about what a ton of fight fans want… Great/Freakish athletes..Check…Guy who wants to finish every fight…Check….Guy who is well rounded..Check.. Brock is pretty much everything you want in a fighter yet waaaaay to many people seem to just hate him because he likes to talk. Last time i checked rampage is quite the talker and has done some pretty worse stuff out of the ring than brock yet people still love him(me included) Its this crazy sort of double standard that pisses me of man.

  • fr702 says:

Ok well I just spent the last few hours making crazy money, at a sexy white party (clothes), I just served 1,100+ people for 8 hours… I got to my house and through on UFC 100, I haven’t checked the FrenZy once today soo I could post fresh after watching this wonderful card, hell I don’t even know if i lost my avatar bet with Gun and quite frankly all is good in my book…

Akiyama v Belcher was a pretty good fight IMO, did Belcher get robbed I don’t know but I was seriously entertained, Plus it allowed me to drink for 15 minutes ;-) .. I like the reception that Sexyama (thats for you Rogan) got from the UFC fans… Belcher looked really good man(for Belcher), and Akiyama didn’t look his best soooo I don’t know what to take from the fight other than I liked it…. o and that kick in the nutz was pretty brutal and damnit I agree with the decision :P

Well my lady friend went to sleep for a bit and she woke up all that could be asked is what happend, I feel uncomfortable… O too much,, that wasn’t nice and I truly apologize JohnBoy…. Hendo through the entire fight had that look of Damniit I WILL KNOCK YOU OUT look in his eyes… Mind you we all know that I think that Bisping is a overrated individual, well as a fighter… He will be a really good MW he just isn’t to the top level of the MW division clearly…. the way that Hendo was fighting was with no respect and one dimensional and it FUUCKING worked because Bisping isn’t up to that point in his career yet.. O and the KTFO of Bisping which was awesome the punch after was a bit much but DAMNN it was brutal and I would be lie~ing if I didn’t tell you that I put that shhhit on slomo and watched it once or twice, just damnn wow and finally someone might have made Bisping re focus, o Goldie and Rogan called the KO during the first round, “Hendo is loading that right hand up”

GSP OWNS the WW division, clearly and honestly I don’t know what is “next” for him but I will tell you that the kid needs to heal before anything with his elbow being jacked and his wtf ever he said hurt him in the groin area he needs to heal… His wrestling is simply sick bottom line… His jitz is good his striking is awesome and someone should have told Thiago that you shouldn’t try to use the superman punch against the master of the superman punch it just is happening.. Thiago look not so good, that is what GSP will do to you take you out of your gamen before the fight ever happend… It was a good fight but just a display of THE GREATNESS bottom Fing LINE

Ok honestly I don’t have the time nor the soberity to go through the Mir v Lesnar fight, well not so much of the fight as the Middle finger to the fans and the pure doucheness of Lesnar, grow the FUUCK up and this isn’t WWF douche.. Flippin off the fans is well just dumb and ya he had a few funny lines in the interview (coors light, getting on my wife) but com’on man act like you have been there before… The fight we can get into but ya know..

Fitch won by decision and that doesn’t suprise me

Im going to drink a bit more and respond to a few comments cuz well whynot, sounds good to me cheers and I TRULY ENJOYED UFC 100, ERIC you Down for UFC 101??????????????????????????????????????????????

  • Crmtde13 says:

IMO it’s good to have a villan in the ufc. I mean I like Brock and will always watch his fights. For those of you who hate him will watch his fights to see him lose. I hate bisping but will watch him fight again in hopes of someone else shutting him up.

  • Jdubb says:

So will Bonnar and Danzig get fired finaly? I really hate watching them fight. Bonnar I dont mind as much.. But really Coleman won???? WTF

  • JOHNBOY says:

i can see lesnar an gsp being champ as long as they want, those two in my eyes are the 2 best fighters in the world, brock is an animal and i give respect to any guy who want to get in the cage with him (i no i sure wouldn’t) an gsp well, what can we say about him the guy is unstoppable whos going to beat him? really think about it, alves was a machine an i to bought into him knocking gsp out but hell no! gsp skooled his ass for 5 rounds, as for bisping he look really bad 2nite i like hendo so im not as gutted as i should be but it looks like the count has got alot of work 2 do!

whos going to beat lesnar??? i just cant get over how good the guy looks, those short right hands DAM i bet mirs face his hurting 2day!

  • bornagain says:

one question why is everyone hatin on brock? he did exactly what he said he would do. he told the world that the first fight was a fluke and he would murder mir which he did. everyone thought brock was just PR stunt. He is for real and he proved it. ya what he did after the fight was wrong, but people need to man up and give him the respect he deserves. he is for real.

  • Jazzkok says:

    DAMN DUDE!

I think for the first time ever i called every single fightright!

I swear, dan henderson gave me what i’ve been waiting for since bisping won TUF. OH MY GOD! I was going ****ing crazy dude! IMO that’s the way that fight HAD to end! I was 100% satisfied with that KO of the ****ing century dude!

As for gsp and brock, to me, it was very likely from the start that these guys were going to win the way they did. I know a lot of people will criticize GSP for not finishing alves and for taking him to the ground over, and over and over again :) but GSP is the modern mma champ. Amazing talent and over all skills, amazing athlete, AND both he AND his trainors are very smart and ALWAYS execute their game plan perfectly. GSP knows how to win and that’s why he’s going to be champ for a long time.

Brock’s post fight behavior imo was completely understandable. Was it kool and “champion like”? maybe not, but like i said before the fight MIR talked the most **** i’ve ever heard anyone talk andhe pissed brock off and i knew brock was going out there to punish him dude.

“@ 38 years of age, no disrespect but i don’t see him landing that right hand!”?!?!?! WOW dude, my face hurts from laughing and smiling so hard.

I nominate Henderson for KO of the millenium!

  • bigchris2328 says:

im glad brock won and his antics towards mir were justified. mir has been running his mouth since the first fight for what 16-17 months, constantly putting brock down and saying brock hits like a little girl, and that mir’s sister hits harder than brock. for 17 months he has done this, if someone were to be doing that to anyone of you guys, and you got the opportunity to ko them like brock did, wouldnt you be a little hyped up as well? i like that brock told mir “talk all the ****t you want now” after herbie stopped the fight. also herbie took a long time to stop it, mir’s corner threw in the towel basically [watch the fight you see it happen], should brock have flipped the bird to the crowd? yes and no. yes because people have hated on him and said he is overrated and such and blah blah blah so no matter what he is never going to win over those fans, and no because he got caught up in the moment.

i seriously hope mir learned his lesson and will not talk so much crapp next time about anyone, because there is another vanill gorilla [a smaller one in carwin] that will ktfo mir.

i am glad the overrated bisping got ktfo’d he also talked too much crap and not only said he would ko hendo, he said hendo wouldnt take him down or ko him. yea bisping got that one right, bisping circled INTO hendo’s power instead of away, and thats what happens when you do it. hendo was so focused on knocking out bisping, and i too saw him loading up his right. he put everything he had into that punch, and the one after it when bisping was out was justified and icing on the cake for me. bisping shouldnt talk so much, he got the beating he deserved. he is not top 5 in the mw division before the fight, and he certainly isnt now. also was it just me or did bisping look different last night, he looked very small, almost sicklick in his body. homeboy was very thin, i wonder what was going on there.

i really dont want to praise gsp because he recieves so much [it is justified though], but i would like to see him fight marquardt, hendo, or maia before he gets a title shot at silva. maia will sub him, marquardt wont back down, and i think hendo is the one guy that wont be taken down by gsp at will. alves stopped two takedowns which is more than the great bj did, and alves never quit nor gassed. he is still the 2 ranked ww in the world imo, and is only going to get better. gsp needs to get that elbow looked at and drained, its nasty.

In the short time I’ve been posting here, I’ve become known, relatively speaking, for 2 things.
First, are longer than normal [for this site] posts, and second, is trying to keep the whole “Brock Lesnar” thing in perspective, keep the hype around him to a dull roar, and trying to explain to those with open minds what his inclusion into our sport means, aside from t-shirt sales and increased PPV buys.
I’ve also called a spade a spade, and tried to illustrate point by point how Lesnar is not good for the UFC, and I’ve taken a lot of flak from his WWE fans, the guys wearing the DeathClutch shirts, and people who see MMA more as entertainment and less as sport.

I should have saved myself the time and energy and let Brock do my talking and make my point for me. He stated my case for me better than I ever could with a hundred lengthy posts. Personally I’m still a little pleasantly surprised after last night. Not that Lesnar won, which I mentioned was likely in multiple posts, but that Lesnar served himself up so willingly and publicly to his detractors that know and recognize him for what he is, and also for what he isn’t.

Yes, he beat Mir, and is to be congratulated for that and for better or worse is the UFC HW champion.
And yes, he revealed himself to be exactly what I’ve known he is all along, an insufferable tool trying to live out his “warrior” WWE gimmick in a real sport.
    Can the guy fight? Clearly.
    Is he “for real”? Absolutely.
A real douche thats real bad for the sport, that is, particularly as UFC HW champion.
Really Brock? Coors Light? That’s what big bad deer-hunting misanthropic mountain men drink in South Dakota?
I’ve seen models and strippers in Vegas drink more serious beers than that.

And this will be most likely the only time I will not apologize for fighter-bashing. Lesnar’s got it coming, and you all know it.

And it bears mentioning that it doesn’t make you an “MMA snob” to not want your HW champion, or any participant in your sport, to embarrass himself or yourself by acting out like a middle schooler performing for his friends in the locker room after school.

I’m fine with his supporters defending him. Go right ahead. I’m done trying to reasonably factualize with his supporters. Lesnar’s pre- and post-fight actions speak a lot louder than his fans words, and their continued support of Lesnar after the night of 11 July identifies what kind of MMA fans they are, because he’s already identified to the rest of us what sort of champion he’ll be.

Another tragedy for Brock Lesnar is that is childish behavior in interviews and after the fight overshadow the fact that he came into the fight well-prepared and executed his gameplan perfectly, and defeated a far more skilled and experienced opponent than himself.
He should be receiving praise for his performance, especially from detractors like me who see his inclusion in our sport as more of an intrusion, and wonder exactly where do we go from here when the UFC rewards someone who conducts himself like that with over 400 grand?

Finally, even though I’ve always had my issues with Dana White, I’ve always felt he ultimately accomplished more good than harm to the sport. That mindset changed last night when White became Lesnar’s number one [financially motivated] defender and apologist in the post fight press conference, which was appalling. He’s paying this clown a fortune to disrespect the sport, his opponent, a sponsor, and all of us.
That tells me more about Dana White than his rant against that female reporter a few months back does.
Lesnar and White deserve each other, but unfortunately the MMA fans deserve neither of them.

And God bless Dan Henderson for temporarily silencing Michael Bisping. The last thing this sport, or the UFC needs, is another trash-talking, overpaid, over-hyped and under-talented competitor finding success in the Octagon.
After all, that’s the HW champ’s “gimmick”.

    • George says:

How is Lesnar under-talented and over-hyped? He just beat Heath Herring, Randy Couture, and Frank Mir… how is that being “under-talented”?

Moreover, your cynical take on Dana White’s motives for defending Brock may have some truth to them. But equally plausible is the possibility that Dana’s defense was true — Brock was “amped up”, and maybe he does lack some self-restraint. Let’s say you bring a friend to a party and he makes a fool of himself in front of everyone. But you know your friend is, for the most part, a decent person. So you apologize for your friend. It’s the same thing in this scenario.

Just because business is involved doesn’t warrant you vilifying Lesnar or White.

  • I was personaly happy with last nights results. I didn’t like Lesnar’s attitude after he won, but i guess Dana put him in his place. AND i know fighters like to talk and hype up fights before and all, but i feel that Frank Mir talkes waaayyyy too much crap and got too personal and that is why Brock did what he did, and remember that the guy is human so no matter how professional you are if a guy talks all that crap your not just going to say” ok i won so we are all god now”, so in some ways it teaches Mir something, but Brock still sjouldn’t have done that because just with beating Mir he greatly hurt Mir’s ego and made him swallow all his WWR remarks and just plain and simple stomped on Mir’s comeback to be hte champ again. This fight should finally show tha Brock is for real and that he is a legit fighter whether he has 5 pro fights or 30 pro fights AND he did what i posted here a few days before which was Brock did not come in crazy and showed more skill on the ground in neutralizing Mir’s suns and not allowing him to do anything. Great job by Brock, i hope Mir comes back though.

Like my boy Onlytrue1 said, i also knew that Alves would get dominated and i also felt his only shot was to score a lucky punch, other that that GSP is too good at what he does and i was not surprised by hos victory but i was impressed that Alves managed to get back up a few times, other than that GSP has beat most guys at 170 and i feel it would be awesome for him to move up and fight A. Silva.

Man, i was soo happy to see Bisping get ko’d, but as a fan of the sport and a big fan of fighter safety i AND me being aproud Amrercan and all, i still didn’t like that Hendo dropped that super hard elbo on Bisping after he went down simply because Bisping was clearly out and MAN!!, he fu*ked him up, it was and awesome win, ko of the year i think, and even though Bisping talked a lot of crap i’m pleased that he is ok, but glad that Hendo shut him up.

UFC 100 lived up to the hype and was an amazing experience, i don’t know about you all, but i felt that special feeling of how improtant and significant this was for the spor and the UFC, great night.

    ……Coleman beat Stephan????

  • Vinz_Clortho says:

Your talking about the same Dana White that promised fans that Junie Browning brother was not a douche right.. when clearly if you had ever seen him fight before TUF you knew that was untrue..

dBiz is right this is just PR to try and make him not look so so bad but let’s face it Brock acts the way he acts and the only word for it is Douche.

Too bad Dan Henderson isn’t in HW he could beat Lesnar and earn himself the monicker of “Douche Killer” or “DB killer”.

  • misterraggy says:

Did that Lesnar fight seem completely messed up too anyone? I believe they need to change weight limit for the heavy weight division because Lesnar is just a complete giant compared to any other heavyweight out there. I bet Lesnar outweighed Mir by at least 40 or 50 pounds!! Thats like Randy Couture (a fantastic wrestler) at 205 fighting BJ Penn at 155!!

I think Brock is just a giant wrestler that is massive and extremely strong. That sucks that the UFC has clung to a unprofessional giant with no exceptional skills (other than wrestling) just for financial reasons. It would have been great for them to get a guy (like Fedor) with exceptional skill in all aspects of the MMA fight game. That would have been better for the sport.

I hope Fedor will fight Brock in the UFC. But it will never happen.

  • jiujitsuMAN says:

with all the bashing of brock… and dont try to say there isnt that much going on…. it makes me wonder if the whole ” dont bash fighters rule” is still in place…

when the fans were booing him for the win, he was justified in flipping them off…

i loved lesnars ” talk all the sh** you want now” statement he made to mir, mir had it comin…

before this fight i wasnt a lesnar fan. i didnt like or dislike him… as i hadnt made up my mind yet… but after his win last night i do like him…

some of you are saying how he is bad for this sport… i disagree… i think he is great for this sport and that we need more fighters like him… powerful, controling and outspoken… if you dont like him thats fine, but to continually call him names because of his win and his handling of his win shows how bad you are for the sport…

and he wasnt flipping me or the other fans that were cheering him, he was just shuting up the QQ’ers…

  • frantzfanon says:

Interesting..no one can bring themselves to call Brock Lesnar what he really is. Or is the word “thug” only reserved for Rashad Evans and Rampage Jackson? As I recall, they never approached the belligerence Lesnar showed last night.

    • Eye-Rhyme says:

      YOU ARE A COMPLETE IDIOT????
your calling those 3 guys thugs!?!??
obviously your idea of a thug is the universal perception which was created by the rich folks…
how are you going to call someone a thug based on what you see on TV???
      your so stupid

      • frantzfanon says:

Learn to read…and watch the language when you reply to me.

Rashad and Rampage aren’t thugs, but that’s what other people like to call them.

  • bigchris2328 says:

how is brock a thug? he is a douche no denying it. rashad is a bit overrated and rampage is a monster. there are no thugs in the ufc frantz at least to my knowledge. just curious though what is your definition of a thug? do you base the idea of brock being a “thug” because he got in mir’s face after he destroyed him? mir talked way too much crap about brock, brock didnt let him off the hook like other people do after a fight is over. mir had it coming, next time dont run your mouth.

    • frantzfanon says:

You misread my comment. I DON’T believe Evans and Jackson are thugs–that was my point. Yet that word has been used for them.

I wasn’t refering to the action in the fight–it is what it is. Lesnar is the better fighter. My issue was the complete lack of class afterward. If your a World Champion, carry yourself that way. Don’t get in your opponents face afterward, don’t return taunts and boos with superceding boorishness.

If you don’t have class, act like you have some. What part of that is hard to comprehend?

  • Nate says:

I like Brock, Mir said he made a mistake by letting Lesnar hold his wrist down but I dont know why Mir did that flying knee against the cage, I think that was a huge mistake…your not Urijah Faber yes you are an athletic big man but after he did that he fell right on his ass and didnt even come close to landing on his feet, he has proboably done that maybe twice in his career I thought that was dumb…and GSP looked great again everybody is talking about GSP and Anderson or HENDO and Anderson, what about a GSP vs HENDO matchup I would love to see that I may want to see that more than GSP and Silva.

    • frantzfanon says:

A thought provoking comment, sir. But you are assuming Henerson can beat Silva. As last night can attest, anyone can win a rematch. I just don’t see Henderson beating Silva. Frankly, though some won’t like it, I believe we are on course to a GSP-Spider showdown this Winter/Spring, early 2010. (Toronto?)

      • Jaymz says:

Ha Ha Ha,I’d be camping out to get tickets for that.

      • Vinz_Clortho says:

        Amen Brother.

Also Hendo is the only fighter to take a round from Silva in recent memory.. the first round of their fight.. and he was doing really well in the second as well before he got caught. Hendo is for real.. many UFC only followrs have no idea how good he really is.

Hendo out muscled and won most encounter in the clinch with Silva in their first match eliminating what, up until that point, was one of Silvas strongest parts of his game.. he out muscled everyone in the clinch until that fight. Interestingly enough after he fought Hendo he stopped trying to play the clinch game almost all together and I think Hendo beating him constantly in the clinch is a big reason for it.

Hendo is the best matchup for Silva.. he made one mistake in the last fight and lost becuase of it but if he comes out and fights a perfect fight he will beat Silva.. he has the ability.

    • carls says:

Leites got the second round from Silva.

  • marvelknight4 says:

Brock Lesnar’s remarks and behavior after his win last night were inexcusable, childish and most of all unprofessional, especialy since he is the Heavyweight Champion. With that said, i’m not defending what he did, but like i said before the guy is human and Frank Mir talked a lot of $hit before the fight. It wasn’t just to hype up the fight, it was personal $hit talking that shouldn’t happen between fighters period so i found it funny as hell when it was Mir’s turn to talk to Rogan and he tried to sound professional just to get some cheap cheers from the croud, at least Lesnar keeps it “real”. Lesnar made himself look very stupid and proved a lot of his critics right with his disgusting lack of class. Lesnar will for sure not do this again as Dana White chewed him up after the fight and put him in his place, BUT Mir…come on dude don’t try to be a pro after talkinf LOADS of $hit that you did NOT back up man, i’m not buying you trying to be profesional either man. It’s not simple to just beat a guy who talked so much personal $hit about you and just say”ok wer’e cool now”, no we are human and we have all kinds of emotions that sometimes we can’t control, BUT STILL BROCK CANNOT JUSTIFY HIS BEHAVIOR, IT’S UNACCEPTABLE PERIOD.

When it comes to the actual fight, i feel that Brock deserves some credit, whether or not you like it jcohl, i know your not a Lesnar fan, and neither am i for the record, but he did control Mir and kept him from attemping any submissions. Before anyone tries to use the excuse that Lesnar overpowered Mir and that’s the only reason he won i say this: Royce Gracie beat Kimo who outweighed him waaayy more than Lesnar outweighed Mir so there you have it, NO EXCUSES. So i understand that Lesnar was given a shot too soon and did not work his way up to a title shot, but come on, he’s taken out some legit guys, don’t hate on that. Mir has a heart of a champion and he will be back, but i bet next time he will be more humble.

  • Eye-Rhyme says:

Overall this was a good card!
    I enjoyed all the fights.

Belcher and Akiyama was a great fight…it was very close…i do feel like belcher won the fight…but overall it was entertaining and akiyama could be a solid fighter in the mw division…but still is not on the level of silva…

GSP and Alves went exactly how i predicted..which was GSP by UD…alves got punked and technically destroyed!!
GSP will hold that title for some while…

Hendo and bisping was great…i actually thought thought that bisping would pull off a decision…although i was rooting for hendo…i figured bispings cardio would be a huge advantage…
but as the fight went on and hendo became more and more comfortable i figured it would end by knockout…but not that soon…great win for hendo…

Lesnar and mir was great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i wanted to see mir get his face smashed and lesnar did just that!!!
i know that lesnar was an idiot for what took place after..but this guy has been trying to find his place in mma…and has been repeatedly rejected by the fans…on top of that he had someone like mir who we all know talks a bunch of pedo…so i am not suprised he acted how he did…think about it…he just destroyed the man who was questioning his skill….and ridiculing him…who wouldn’t be that ecstatic after a victory like that???? Lesnar silenced mir and all of his haters…it does not excuse his actions but i understand why he did what he did…

Fitch and paulo…well i couldn’t really enjoy the fight…it was a horrible idea to televise the fight after mir and lesnar…

    GREAT CARD!

  • slowpny says:

Hendo well did what all real fighters should do.. Dont talk abotu what ur going to do just do it. This is not highschool trash talk to make the girls think ur cool. Lesnar was a douche in WWE and is a douche in UFC. Mir made a rookie mistake and got pinned against fence with a 300 lb dude on top of him. I think Herb should have stood them up sooner. I hate seeing wrestlers laying on people. But mir should have scrambled better. He lost but i think Mir/Lesnar 3 is in order. As far as all the comments until u step in a ring/cage and fight dont judge. U have fav. we all do and u pull for your fav…. Dont talk bout bring it adn be prepared!!
