While UFC 178 will be headlined by a flyweight bout between champion Demetrious Johnson and Chris Cariaso, heading into Saturday’s event, there’s certainly some merit to the argument that Dustin Poirier vs. Conor McGregor is the ‘people’s’ headliner.
This isn’t to say that Johnson and Cariaso aren’t deserving of main event status, as after all, the flyweight champ is unquestionably one of the planet’s best pound-for-pound fighters. It has more to do with the fact that Cariaso is a huge underdog leading up to the scrap, and that there is a ton of buzz behind Conor McGregor right now.
Sure, we can all debate as to whether the hype’s justified, but that’s in part, what’s feeding the interest behind this Saturday’s fight no? Will McGregor get past the UFC’s #5 ranked 145’er? Not surprisingly, “Notorious” is predicting a one sided win and claims that Poirier is a “broken man”…
Well, the UFC has released it’s “Countdown” segments for the September 27th card, and below is the one featuring Poirier and McGregor. Whether you’ll be rooting for the latter come Saturday or not, the clip below does a good job of promoting the bout.
