It is 11.57 in England how long till the wieghins are live in the USA?
I think its on at 1am UK time mate
3am dude
What would you all think of a G.S.P vs Dan Henderson middle weight super fight??
GSP-Hendo wouldn’t be bad but GSP fights Anderson Silva first if he goes to middleweight. Personally I think he needs to defend the welterweight title a few more times before thinking about moving up.
i agree man
I’ve mentioned this on other threads, but in general superfights featuring titleholders are bad for the sport.
They’re great for business, but while titleholders from 2 different weight classes are getting ready for one fight, title contenders in those weight classes are stuck in a holding pattern, and we lose 2 championship fights for one not so super fight that does little to benefit the sport.
Also, was GSP-Penn a “good fight?”
Debateable, but I say no. Wouldn’t we have been better served with a Penn-Florian fight, and a GSP fight against someone who had a shot at beating him, like Alves or whoever?
Was GSP-Penn entertaining?
It was if you’re a GSP supporter and/or a BJ Penn hater, but MMA is about legitimate sport. If you’re looking for staged spectacles, physical mismatches, and sports entertainment, hit up the WWE or those Japanese sideshow promotions featuring Bob Sapp, Hong Man Choi, and Zuluhino.
In terms of the actual in-cage bout, GSP battered Penn like a piece of cod at a fish fry for 4 rounds, to the surprise of no one except maybe BJ Penn. Both guys are outstanding MMA champions, but one guy was fighting out of his weight class, and it showed.
GSP’s win proved nothing other than he can beat a chunked up LW with a smart mouth and snotty attitude. His wins over guys like Matt Hughes and Jon Fitch are what makes him the best WW on the planet, not showboating for dollars with Penn.
When Anderson Silva and Forrest Griffin fight, once again the goings on in 2 weight classes are disrupted by a fight no one really needs to see. Silva should be defending against Demian Maia, and we all know it, and Forrest Griffin, not Shogun Rua, should be fighting Machida.
Again, the SPORT of MMA has to come before the BUSINESS of MMA, otherwise Dana White is nothing more than the Vince McMahon of our sport.
Its one thing to set up “superfights” with name fighters who aren’t titleholders, like Rich Franklin and Wanderlei Silva, or GSP [if he were to lose to Alves] and Hendo. Asking WW contenders to wait AGAIN as GSP grandstands in a pointless superfight is not good for the sport, regardless of whether or not it makes the UFC money.
Its also fine to set up “superfights” between aging big names like Liddell or Hughes, sort of as a way to let them go out fighting, and with a nice fat bonus paycheck.
MMA is on its way to becoming the greatest sport on Earth. In the process, some things are going to have to be left behind, such as MMA fighting in a boxing ring, and weight class mismatches and other bouts that smack more of the carnival than they do of competition…
Happy to see Alves made the weight.
Ha! I was thinking the same! Imagine the let down if it had to be non-title…
Surprisingly GSP looks bigger than Alves.
Mir is in a phenomenal shape.
wtf up with brocks bo*bs- that shaking part.
Damn i cant wait for tomorrow night!
Mir looked like he was in great shape, but his physique is still no match for Brock. Lesnar seems so focused and ready for that fight, Mir better have some CRAZY bjj moves up his sleeve otherwise he is going to get completely manhandled.
GSP always looks so focused, somewhat relaxed, and confident at the weigh ins. He did look a little bigger than usual. Cant wait for that fight.
Henderson just cant look mad during the stare down. hahaha. Bisping looked like he was trying to scare Hendo or something. Funny stuff.
only 24 hrs away! hells yea!
Mir did look like he was in awesome shape, hes never been that shredded.. although Brock is a bit bigger then he is, he didnt look like he was in as good shape.. and his arms dont look as big. Im so pumped to see Frank in such great shape and i think that he will come out with the W.
My guess would be that in the Mir camp, they were concerned about Lesnar muscling his way to a win, as he did against Couture, so they tried to close the weight difference, which they did by 20 pounds.
I though it would be 30 or maybe even a 40 pounds weight difference, but Mir looked the best I’ve ever seen him, and Lesnar looked somewhat less prehistoric than I thought he would.
Conversely the Lesnar camp appears to be concerned about their man gassing in 7 minutes, like he did against Couture. Everyone and their brother has been saying that in order for Mir to have any chance to win, he needs to take Lesnar into the later rounds.
With that understood, it looks like they worked more with cardio than power, and flexibility [to help him avoid and escape submissions] than pure muscle weight, and achieved a more streamlined Lesnar.
Will the changes help or hurt either fighter?
Thats debateable, but one thing for sure is that it’ll most likely make for a better fight for all of us. With less weight and more gas in the tank, Lesnar will rage longer but not quite as Hulk-like, and Mir having better cardio and some more muscle mass should prevent him from getting caveman’ed quite so badly like he did in their first bout.
Ultimately I think its hard for anyone, even a HW with Mir’s experience, ground skills, and alleged bad-@ss striking to beat a larger opponent for the second straight time in 11 months.
Mir’s chances look a bit better after the weigh-in then they did before it, but Lesnar still has to be considered the favorite, however I’ll be watching this fight wearing my Frank Mir-signed Hawaiian Fight Gear long sleeve shirt and MMA shorts and pulling for Frank like a diehard…
Apologies for the typo.
The timeframe wherein Lesnar and Mir last fought is 17 months, not 11.
Ya I was pretty pi$$ed about that dude. ;)
i would like to see hendo-marquardt, not hendo-gsp. i think hendo would be one of the very few who can/will take gsp down at will. gsp took wandy and rampage, and anderson silva down at will, he can do so against the 20-25 pound smaller gsp. that fight would be awesome between nate and hendo imo. gsp, should move up to mw if he destroys thiago like he did to bj. however he should not get the immediate title shot, i would like to see gsp against the amazing maia for the title shot opportunity. that would be a great fight imo as well.
Please proofread before posting.
Is it just me or did everybody except grice, lesnar and “irish” look frickin shredded. Guess they all new this is the big one and went all out in camp.
Everyone Is shredded this is effing UFC 100. If you can’t and didn’t come in the best shape of your life you might as well quit fighting. What a historic night this will be. I’m not sure if I’ll even be able to sleep tonight!!!!
“What a historic night this will be. I’m not sure if I’ll even be able to sleep tonight!!!!”
Amen to that brother hahaha.
My girl gets back from virginia tomorrow, ufc 100 tomorrow night, 24 pack of corona. Need i say more? hahaha hells yea.
Best fight card ever.
Jcohl,
Bro you have some awesome points and seem intelligent I like reading your posts but damn homie not so looooong. Just giving ya crap.
No worries, Turk, its all good.
Enjoy the event tomorrow night.
frank was f’n yoked….the end
I’m in agreement with the people who say Pit Bull will be St. Pierre’s toughest opponent. He just has so much explosion; but GSP will be more than gameeven if Alves balloon up to light heavyweight the way he did against Matt Hughes. If I remember correctly, St. Pierre was around the size of a middlewight by the time of the BJ Penn fight (187). This is the matchup I look forward to the most.
As far as Mir-Lesnar…I still go with Mir. Randy Couture had no business in the Octogan with Lesnar at only 220 pounds–indeed, Lesnar is too powerful and way too talented to make up that weight disparity. Mir however is robust at 245, and exactly how much has Lesnar learned since losing to Mir in their first encounter? Even if Lesnar comes in at 285-290, Mir is still willing to pay the price to get the submission (one can only hope this style of fighting doesn’t send him the way of Nogueira).
Bisping can beat Henderson, the size advantage is helpful. The key for him will be to dictate the pace of the fight. I have to admit, a part of me wants Bisping to win just so I can enjoy the thrashing he’d receive in a few months from Spider.
oh my god i cant wait!!!!!!! come on Bisping come Alves!
dudes i seriously don’t know were the weigh ins are were do we watch them?
UFC.COM
Bisping is way out of his leauge and it will show tonight, GSP good luck don’t see happing and Mir can win which we all seen in the past but lesnar is a differnt fighter now, and I just don’t think he has earned his spot to “THE CHAMP” after 2 or3 fights. But with all that being said it still is the best fight card ever!!!!!!!!!
sure most of the guys look shredded, but how many are going to look like that saturday night after they rehydrate? i think brock didnt look all huge because his camp was designed for him to have the “gas” to go 5 rounds without gassing out thus leading him to being leaner, and mir bulked up because his trainers didnt want there to be a huge power advantage for brock, but brock is still going to outweigh him by 25+ pounds saturday night. it doesnt matter if you look shredded thats because the guys are carrying very little water and have very low bodyfat. if fighters were given wins based on their body appearences then phil baroni wouldve been undefeated.
Yeah very true about the water weight. You have to say though that come fight time they will still be RIPPED. Brock will NEVER be able to go 5 rounds.
Side note: I heard on another site that GSP’s elbow was hurt or something of that nature. I know no one comes in 100% usually was just wondering if anyone has heard the same thing.
not yet dude but i beleive you
frank is not cutting any wait…so he was just ripped….the end
wow….WAIT….LOL……how about weight
turk just a thought, but for the serra-hughes fight, serra had a sixpack[check the dana video blogs] and then come fight time homeboy looked flabby, he didnt even have a one pack. and the rumor that gsp has a elbow injury is not confirmed by gsp or his camp as far as ive read/heard but its a rumor he has bursitis or something. it shouldnt affect him greatly but we will see. i doubt if he loses he will make excuses about it, let alone make any excuses.
