MMAagents has issued the following statement to MMAFrenzy.com on behalf of their client, UFC welterweight Anthony Johnson, who was charged late last month with multiple misdemeanors following an alleged domestic dispute with his ex-girlfriend:
“It has come to light that an email is being circulated with false and misleading information pertaining to Mr. Anthony Johnson. On behalf of Mr. Johnson we would like to address this issue. On June 27th Mr. Johnson was arrested in Hayward California and was charged with misdemeanors stemming from an alleged altercation with an ex-girlfriend. Mr. Johnson is completely and unequivocally innocent of all charges. These charges are completely outside the realm of Mr. Johnson’s character; he has no prior criminal record and has never been in trouble with the law. Furthermore, any assertion that the UFC played a part in posting his bail or in covering up the incident is completely untrue. Unfortunately, professional athletes are frequently made the victim of such false accusation. We ask that judgment is withheld until all relevant facts are known.”

And the FrenZy gets a response, it is an interesting note and well as we all have learned especially with the Leonard Garcia thing that well we just need to see how this plays out… He was arrested lets wait and see..

I believe he’s innocent too… but there is an obvious bias when MMAagents say that “Mr. Johnson is completely and unequivocally innocent of all charges” and then go on to say “let’s wait until the facts are known before making judgments”.
Isn’t declaring him innocent (though he is until proven otherwise) with such passion “judging before the facts are known”?
It’s MMAagents job to make this situation as good as possible for AJ, and what else would they do but deny the charges.
They likely have a pretty good handle on what happened since this took place 2 weeks ago and clearly they’re confident he’ll be cleared.
Side note: “Innocent until proven guilty” only applies to the way the judicial system looks at a person, not the court of public opinion. It was never “proven” in a court of law that OJ killed Nicole, or that MJ molested those children, but we all know they were both guilty.

I don’t doubt he put his hands on her, as people with “higher authority” usually seem to take it a little overboard and think they will either never be caught and or punished. A man especially with a frame like AJ possesses should never even think of putting their hands on a female I don’t care what the situation. JUST LEAVE I’m not saying he is guilty, just that it’s very possible.
I agree that he may have put his hands on her, and he may have done the things he’s accused of, or he may not have. As I said on the other story, though, people have been known to make this stuff up for a various reasons as well.

It’s clear AJ’s agents are very confident that these accusations are false. “Rumble” is famous now and making more money each fight. It could be he simply just wanted out and this chick is getting “fatal attraction” on him/ Or, like justin said, it could be that there is some truth to this.
IMO AJ seems like a smart guy. The kind of guy who wouldn’t put his career and growing success and fame in jeapordy over some chick.

This is a little too close to the “she had it coming” line of thought that makes me uncomfortable. You’re basically saying that, if the allegations are true, he is justified.
I read JC’s comment on the other post. He claims firsthand knowledge of the situation and paints Johnson as an abuser (it is important to note that Johnson could now have legal recourse against that particular poster). Your statement all but says, “it’s ok….she deserved it.”
No one deserves a beating (unless you sign up for organized, unarmed combat).
I think he was referring to my comment that it may be made up. As in, “True, he could be wanting to leave her or something of that sort. We all know how woman get when they don’t get their own way. (She could be making it up as a way to get back at him.)”
TRUST that he has legal recourse against the poster of the comment from the ‘close friend of the victim’ and we will be encouraging him to pursue that venue. It is amusing to me that the MMAFRENZY QA dept felt necessary to validate their admission of that post by confirming the IP address from California. WHA??? That and other hearsay make the statement believable???
I know Anthony personally… have for quite a few years prior to his break into the MMA world and longer than his ex-girlfriend…… There is so much more to this story than what is published in the media and that female has things she should have to account for. KARMA will visit her in due time, but in the meanwhile, those of us that know his pure and true soul will continue to support his success and be in his corner throughout this controversy. He is positive and moving forward always. She will be unsuccessful in her attempt to bring him down from the great and upward path he is on!!!

To be fair, we don’t really know what is going on, and best we can do is try to validate comments as to the best of our ability and let both sides have their say. As far as the comments from the other commentator being false, we can neither confirm nor deny that, and it is possible that whoever wrote that does know the female involved, but was not present at the time of the incident, and is therefore solely going off of what their friend said. I’m sure that at least once in your lifetime you have trusted one of your friends’ accounts of a situation, and proliferated their account, only to end up looking foolish because they lied to you.

The other post quotes a history of violence and mentally unstable behaviour by Anthony from a first hand knowledge perspective. I concede that on this situation alone, one may just be wanting to support a friend. But to make statements that he has beaten her to the point of stitches and destruction of residence property on not one but several occasions is a complete and total fabrication!! I can speak on this first hand! Additionally, AJ would NEVER even threaten to take someone’s life much less his own life in an emotional tantrum. He considers life precious…. you would have to know him and the person who wrote that obviously does not!!!
It is so apparently clear the person who posted that is trying to accomodate someone else’s mission in assasinating AJ’s character in the media. Which is a prime reason this entire situation occured initially. He will be vindicated in the end as is already in process with the first hearing.

What is not being said in the media or here is what the alleged ‘victim’ perpetrated against Anthony. Many times women put their hands on men in anger and have no consequences for those actions because of being what society may consider the naturally ‘weaker’ sex. Just because he is a MAN, has an intimidating physicque and is successful in the MMA arena does not automatically conclude that he ‘could’ be guilty. Some of us know him know how this all went down and are confident of his exoneration of ALL charges regarding ‘domestic altercations’. And to his ex-girlfriend, for those of us that know the part she played….. ‘SHAME ON YOU’.
i believe dbiz was referring to the first headline of aj being arrested, in there a guy named JC claims to be a good friend of the woman who is claiming to be abused by AJ, and claims that AJ has done this before even going as far as saying AJ claimed to kill the girl and himself.
Again we don’t know the entire story we weren’t there, and clearly there is an explanation for all of this… He personally has not come out with a statement, but his myspace states

I’ve met Rumble and he seemed like a super nice guy and I have nothing bad to say about the man, I personally hope that these allegations against him are just simply false, I can sit here and explain possible situation after situation of how and why he got arrested, remember he is not a small man and A LOT of California police departments arrest the big guy first, and not matter if she is crying wolf, the fact that the man is not small and is a professional fighter and is “accused” of doing these things, no matter what he is going to jail for the night and if you go to Jail you get charged with something, always… SO I’m playing it by ear on this one, I hope that the accusations are false and not just cuz he is a talented guy… It is quite possible that His EX did make this up, the cops called his cell, he turned himself in.. Yet I’m not going to put that on someone I don’t know just that there are a lot of possible things that happend that night
I by no means am stating that his ex did make this up, I have a very close friend that something similar to what I stated above, it happend to him…. I thought that he did these things and well was ready to hurt an individual, yet when the “smoke” cleard I figured out the story and well all I’m say is that it is possible… Now if he did do these things by all means it is horrible and he should be puniished for the crime, striking a woman isn’t right and again we all know that.. sorry if my post came across as rude and uncaring to the possible victim in this alleged situation…

To my knowledge yes and detained for aproxx 3 hours…
In no way shape or form was I saying If true, it is justified. Don’t really know where that came from dbiz, but whatever. I would not now nor would I EVER condole hit a female. If anything as far as my statements I thought I was on the woman’s side saying ” I don’t doubt that he put his hands on her”.
I can’t stress enough here the need for all of the MMA community to let the police and the courts do their jobs, and keep an open mind and remember that he’s innocent until proved guilty, which the court of public opinion all too frequently forgets.
Equally important is to neither assume Johnson is guilty of assaulting a woman simply because she SAID he did, nor assume Johnson is not guilty of assualting a woman simply because, “Rumble’s our boy!”…
So OJ was innocent? Innocent until proven guilty is a farce, both in a legal court and this mythical court of public opinion.
I said it on the last post and I will say it again, too often people want truth/falsehood to be an issue that is either black or white. But there is no absolute at either end, only a swirling mixture of grey.
I’m in this exact situation right now with my ex. Women never grow up. She probably pushed his buttons for the sole purpose of getting a reaction, because she knew the law would be biased towards her. Anthony Johnson seems like a really nice guy.
