UFC FN 51: Andrei Arlovski Outlines Gameplan For “POTN” Win

Not only did Andrei Arlovski score a fair sized, upset win Saturday at UFC Fight Night 51, but the heavyweight earned “Performance of the Night” honors for his KO victory over “Bigfoot” Silva.

If you missed it, Arlovski sent Silva crashing to the mat with a couple of hard right hands, and then finished the latter off with a vicious series of hammer fists. The fight lasted just under three mintues….Arlovski picked up an extra $50,000 for the award.

Speaking after the bout, here is some of what Arlovski had to say about the gameplan his coaches at Jackson-Winkeljohn MMA had planned (quote via MMA Junkie.com):

“The gameplan was for even one second, don’t stand in one place,” Arlovski said. “I was supposed to move all the time.”

Clearly that was some sound advice. With the win, Arlovski avenged a 2010, unanimous decision loss to Silva, which took place under the Strikeforce banner.

The other “POTN” and $50K went to Godofredo Pepey, for his sick, triangle-choke-armbar finish of Dashon Johnson in round one.

“Fight of the Night” was awarded to Piotr Hallmann and Gleison Tibau, which saw the latter emerge with a split decision win.

UFC FN 51 was hosted by the Nilson Nelson Gymnasium in Brasilia, Brazil.
