I love pre fight press conferences because we get to see the fighters all done with training and pretty much waiting to fight. It’s interesting to see the state of mind their in based on their demeanor and answers.
GSP’s my boy, but i kinda wish he would talk more **** dude. But like hendo, he does his talking in the octagon.
I hope the staredown between Brock and Mir is intense. Brocks seems pi$$ed.
I don’t know about anyone else, but countdown to 100 was some of the best sports TV production I’ve personally seen…..Ever.
This particular countdown was especially well put together, but as far as best sports TV production, I don’t know about that.
the countdown was really cool, it covered every fight very well and was problably the best countdown yet.
Mir better back up all his crap talking because he’s starting to sound like Chris Leben. He might end up like Leben too if he takes Lesnar lightly like he seems to be doing, he’s setting himself up to get “Anderson Silva’d”, like Leben did.
Also Thiago Alves better back up his talk too because he’s been talking a huge game about knocking out GSP so simple. In all fairness i feel the reason why he thinks he’s gonna just ko GSP easily is because Serra did, but like Mir, Alves is problably underestimating the champ.
I’ve mentioned this a few times before, but it bears repeating here.
It’s in Frank Mir’s best interest to talk some $hit, cop an attitude, publicly refer to Lesnar as “no big deal”, and pimp down to the cage on fight night like he’s a bad man.
Also, if he really thinks his newly-developed striking is any damned good, he should try working some angles and popping Lesnar a few hard shots in the chops or rip a few wicked low leg kicks to really pi$$ Lesnar off, and hopefully make him overaggressive.
An “accidental” stiff shot to the pills would also make Lesnar go ape-$hit.
Not to sound like Yoda here, but in MMA anger leads to overaggression, overaggression leads to putting yourself in a bad position, and with an opponent like Mir a bad position leads to you getting hooked and submitted.
As Lesnar well knows.
Personally I think this time around Lesnar will be more patient, and his infantile MMA game somewhat matured, like it was against Couture, which should lead to a win for him.
If it isn’t, or he somehow reverts, or loses his $hit in the Octagon and goes after Mir like a caveman going after a hunk of meat at chowtime, he’s going to get caught.
Again.
In Alves’ case, his $hit-talking is what my grandparents used to call, “whistling thru the graveyard”, which basically means that Alves is trying to convince HIMSELF first and foremost that he’s ready to step into the cage with the best WW on the planet, which incidentally he’s probably not.
Also, trash-talking sadly helps sell walkout wear and other fighter-related stuff, especially if you’re MUCH less popular than your opponent.
Is Alves good? Absolutely.
Is Alves GSP good? Absolutely not.
He may win the fight, assuming he makes weight, but to date Alves has shown me nothing to convince me that he’s got the skill-set and seemingly supernatural talent for MMA that “Rush” has. Alves to me seems like a Thai-boxing MW sweating himself into WW matches, and not always successfully.
It’s like the guy’s learned weight management from Travis Lutter or something.
The best I can tell GSP almost inhumanly manages to master each aspect of MMA that he focuses on. Of course a lucky punch is a lucky punch, and then there is the matter of GSP being ready to fight mentally, as he clearly wasn’t against Matt Serra.
But assuming GSP is 100%, Alves will need a miracle to beat him…
It’s obvious that Mir is trying to get into Lesnar’s head, but Lesnar is one of those guys that even if you get in his head it still won’t effect his game come fight time, he’s too foucused and plain and simple the angrier he gets, if he manages to get on top of Mir, no matter how good Mir’s ground game is, he’s going to get his ass kicked like he did in the first fight, and another thing(not to fighter bash), but Mir’s stand-up is ok at best, not even decent yet, he drops Nog and thinks he’s Mr. strkier now, well i hope he thnks he can strike come saturday so Lesnar can do him like he did Herring.
Alves is a good fighter, but he is not GSP. He’s making bold statements about knocking out GSP and all that, but it’s quite simple, what is he going to do when GSP gets him to the ground and punds the hell out of him AND what is he going to do when GSP starts landing all kinds of punches that he won’t even see coming. Alves is very predictable, he has power and decent speed, but nothing special to indicate he will score a ko so easily.
Thiago Alves says: “i’m gonna shock the world, i’m gonna take the best p4p fighter in the world and knock him out, I’M GONNA WIN MY $HITLE THOT AND BECOME THE THAMP”
Let him be confident. Hes earned it. Hell he put twice the beating on Kos than GSP did. Hes not being disrespectful like Mir and Bisping. He is going down though:)
I like how Mazagatti got more coverage than the GSP and Alves fight. I think thats the one everybody here wants to see.
what happened to the link for the video? I watched half of it – then had to go out … came back and now it’s gone … wtf?
Fixed. Not sure what happened but it should be back up and working now. Sorry ’bout that.
ufc.com has the whole thing…as does mma-core.com i believe…..i actually want to see all these fights equally..i mean every fight is interesting
It should be an incredible night. GSP/Thiago – great show of mutual respect at the press conference. Brock appeared to dwarf Mir at their pose down. Hendo appears relaxed, and just waiting for Bisping (who also seems ready to go.)
As far as the WW title fight goes, as beastly as Thiago is, I see him spending a lot of time on his back getting manhandled by Georges’ supreme wrestling. It’s difficult to imagine Thiago being manhandled at anything, but when it comes to GSP’s wrestling, I see it happening. Thiago is in for a long night on his back, or a short night.
The HW title I think becomes much more murky depending on Mir’s gameplan. I think a few good placed “unintentional” shots to the gorilla junk may trigger Lesnar to push forward irresponsibly out of frustration. I think the second Brock turns this into a grudge match is when the focus gets lost and a submission gets sunk in. With that being said, my heart is on Mir, my money is on Lesnar.
The MW contender fight, I think all I can say is Bisping’s mouth has been writing checks that are about to bounce, badly.
First off, damn i am so pumped for these fights its ridiculous. I dont think ive ever looked forward to a card this much before.
Time and time again Alves has said he is going for the knockout, he is going to shock the world with a knockout of GSP, hes going to win the belt, etc.
I think he is going to be so set on knocking out GSP, that GSP is going to take him down immediately and give Alves a HUGE reality check. Even if it stays standing, i think GSP will keep his distance and use his kicks to keep Alves at bay, and if Alves tries to land a big strike, GSP will take him down. GSP will dominate him on the ground, and thats all there is to it.
If GSP loses this fight….i honestly will be outta my chair, with my jaw dropped in complete shock. I think Alves is one HELL of an amazing fighter, and yes obviously he could knock the champ out on saturday night, but i just dont see the champ losing. ya know what i mean?
Was it just me, or did Brock seem like he didnt even want to be there hahaha. Man that guy looked pissed.
I think Brock is just focused and ready to be done with the talking and get to the fighting.
