Exclusive: Lashley Won’t Fight Frye, Next Opponent To Be Announced Soon
A rumored bout between Bobby Lashley and Don Frye will not take place, according to Lashley’s agent “Method”, who posted on Monday in the MMAFrenzy.com Forums that reports of the matchup are “not true” and that the heavyweight prospect’s next fight will be announced in the coming weeks.
Method says one name you can cross off the list of potential opponents is Strikeforce heavyweight contender Brett Rogers, with an opponent for Lashley’s next fight already determined but not yet been finalized.
The former professional wrestler and amateur and NAIA wrestling champion Lashley (4-0) successfully made the jump to mixed martial arts last year with a first-round TKO (cut) of Joshua Franklin. He followed up his MMA debut victory with wins over Jason Guida and Mike Cook, before scoring a first-round submission (due to strikes) of Bob Sapp on June 27.
Lashley recently announced that he intends to next fight in September.
Stay tuned to MMAFrenzy.com as we’ll pass along details on Lashley’s next fight when they’re available.

While I admit that its probably too soon for Lashley and Rogers to meet, I do think that Lashley needs a step up in competition to test himself and see where he’s at.
Bob Sapp, or Don Frye for that matter isn’t or shouldn’t be anyone’s idea of a good barometer for Lashley’s progress. I think a Rogers-Lashley fight will be good stuff, and we’ll probably get it next year or so.
I would have to say that maybe someone like Scott Junk would be a good test for Lashley. Junk can be a rough customer, and has been in with some decent names like Christian Wellisch.
I’ll be staying tuned for further developments…
Exclusive, nice.
Just one more reason why the FrenZy is the best
the ufc should make a move for bobby hes a well known guy and i think he will be able to hang with most guys in the ufc, just look at lesnar i think the two fighters are on the same level, bobby is a beast an i dont wana here not egnough experiance again just look at lesnar!
He will get there. The difference between Lashley and Lesnar right now is mostly just confidence in their abilities. Lesnar’s college career was also astronomically tougher and more impressive than Lashley. When I was at tournaments I saw NAIA champs beat like little kids against mid-range NCAA and NJCAA guys. So Lesnar dominating at the NCAA and NJCAA level is a lil more impressive and helpful in assessing true wrestling ability than being an NAIA champ. No offense to NAIA guys at all by the way(the cream always rises in any group) just anyone whose wrestled or seen wrestling at that level can tell you it’s a whole different ball game.
Once Lashley gets some confidence he’ll be just fine. I still think Strikeforce is the ideal fit for him right now.
i think if lashely felt he was ready for the UFC then hed already be here…
lashely is a humble guy, very nice person… i met him the day after seeing him perform at a WWE event… he has enough athletic ability and heart for the UFC, but he does lack a well rounded skill-set… it seems to me that he is playing it safe and taking the time to develope his talent…
how many times have we seen a guy think hes ready and jump into the ufc only to never be seen again ie aswerio(sp) silva…
when lashley is ready and can trust his skills and ability he will make the jump to the UFC… and when that happens i can see him sweep up alot of competition…
Just curious: when was the Don Frye/Lashley fight ever even a rumor? I’m here quite often and don’t recall any posts on the main site or the forum. Maybe some other sites had it posted.
Other than that, I agree with jcohl and jjMAN. From what I hear Lashley’s a good guy that really wants to succeed and has the God-given ability to do so if this is his path of choice. I could see the UFC making him an offer if he can beat a couple of decent guys or at least one top 15 HW. Heck, if Lorenzo was successful in Croatia, maybe we’ll see Lashley/Cro Cop in September (however unlikely that would be).
I personally would like a lashley vs. al turk or something along those lines. On the other hand it would be nice to see him develope more game before he steps under the big lights of the ufc.
A couple of scott junk type opponents with a couple of wins would put him there in my book.
Maybe he should fight Jeff Monson …… if he can beat him then a fight with a returning Antonio Silva . Beating those two would give him a legit shot at the UFC .
Dr.doom, not to give you a hard time but Jeff Monson is exactly the sort of opponent that Bobby Lashley SHOULD NOT be fighting at this early stage of his career.
Monson has the edge in experience, has enough grappling ability and physical strength to stuff at least some if not all of Lashley’s takedown attempts, his low center of gravity makes Greco-throws very challanging, and finally even though Monson has had mixed results an an MMA fighter, he’s a seriously bad man when it comes to the ground game, and submission wrestling.
The truth is at this stage of his career, I see Lashley becoming frustrated with Monson’s in-cage defensive awkwardness, and would most likely get caught in a bad position being overly aggressive, sort of like Lesnar and Mir. Once hooked, it wouldn’t take a guy like Monson long to submit a relative novice like Lashley.
I think that there are enough HW “names” out there for Lashley to earn his stripes against before he jumps into a bout with a seasoned vet and submission grappler like Jeff Monson.
It would be a stern test for Lashley but ya your right jcohl its not the fight he wants if he’s looking to get the W.
Antonio Silva is still banned in the US I believe. Monson would frustrate him to the point of making a mistake. I like where your head is at about him facing guys to aide him into the UFC but both of those guys would overwhelm him. Silva is a pretty good heavy. If he had not screwed up he would probably be fighting for Strikeforce’s title soon.
monson would destroy lashley
plus monson just signed a deal with cleveland based fighting promotion NAAFS(the one jason dent dominated)…i havent been to a fight night in the flats for a while but if a big name like monson is fighting in cleveland now then ill definitly go…hopefully monson doesnt lose in the NAAFS..because that woundlt look good to lose to rookies in ohio top promotion
With all due respect Gun what was the deal with dent on TUF? He just seemed a little weird. And I know he’s alot better then what he showed. Even Dana said so. His fight with Pearson was a good scrap though. I guess the house and the people got to him a a bit.
he’s a very to himself kinda of guy…and soft spoken….from what ive heard he’s never been one to try and have all the attention on him……i think he could have won the show had he listened to henderson more…but i have heard that before that he just doesnt like to change his style to get better…….but he is going to need to leave team griffonrawl if he expects to get anywhere in the ufc….no disrepect to griffonrawl but they dont have the sparring partners or trainers good enough to train a ufc caliber fighter he should move up to cinncinatti and train with jg and franklin maybe go with them to dellagrottes place
