Strikeforce Heavyweight Lavar Johnson Hospitalized Following Shooting
Strikeforce heavyweight Lavar Johnson (12-3), a veteran of the PFC and WEC, has been hospitalized after sustaining what is being called a “serious gunshot wound to his abdomen” in an early-Sunday incident in Bakersfield, California that left another dead and three others wounded.
According to Bakersfield.com, all of the victims were attending a family reunion/Independence Day celebration when an unknown assailant opened fire with a semi-automatic weapon, killing Anthony Mack Johnson, who died at the scene, and injuring Lavar Johnson and three others.
Johnson was last in action in May, scoring an 18-second knockout of Carl Seumanutafa at the debut Strikeforce Challengers event to extend his current winning streak to five-straight.
MMAFrenzy.com will pass along additional details on the incident and Lavar Johnson’s condition as they’re available.

It’s unfortuante that Lavar got shot, and well the rumor is he got shot once and it was in the Abs… I guess we will have to wait til 2010 to see him back in action if well ever…..
This is a shame. I hope the guy can get back to good health enough to fight. This is similar to the Justin Eilers incident in the fact that they were gathered with family and got shot etc.
this is horrid news, but i wanna know why it happened…
Obviously no good reason.
hopefully he gets better and is able to pull through.
hopefully he pulls through because he is a really good fighter and had a really bright future his ko at strikeforce was awesome
I wish him all the best, both as an person and an MMA fighter.
Although I wish him a swift recovery and return to the sport, where he has a bright future, its no joke getting over being gut shot.
