Even though T.J. Dillashaw beat Joe Soto at UFC 177, T.J. Dillashaw’s coach Duane “Bang” Ludwig said that Soto never deserved a title shot in the first place even if it was a last minute thing.
“In me, there was some question because, one, Joe Soto is not deserving of a UFC title shot, period. I think it waters down a little bit of the mystique of the UFC title. So I suggested that the fight still take place just not for the belt.”
“In the back of his mind, I do think that Barao knew he was up against someone tougher than he realized.”
As noted earlier on the site, Less than 24 hours away from their rematch, challenger and former UFC Champion Renan Barao had to pull out of his schedule fight with Champion T.J. Dillashaw due to illness. It was made public that Barao became ill during the weight cut process on Friday and was rushed to the hospital.
